How Buildings Become Smart, Self-Sufficient Organisms
Today, buildings are mostly shells with sparse intelligence or autonomy, even if their designs are works of art and their plans models of functional space.
Buildings of the future will need to be modular, multi-use, multi-connected, and be capable of reliably maintaining and optimizing system functions. Standardization, interchangeability, self-assembly, constant feedback loops will enable buildings to be more affordable, self-sustaining, and long-lasting, making adequate housing no longer a a scarcity for people.
The flexible use of space should focus on creating human connections and enhancing our ability to contribute to and gain from our community – while also allowing us to see and feel the building systems, and communities within, as our own corpus.
