TRAKS - WILD SAFARI

I don't know much about Traks. What I do know is that they had a penchant for covering 70's rock songs. Their first album had some mild success with a funky cover of "Long Train Running" by the Doobie Brothers. The album cut posted above is from their second album and is a cover of "Wild Safari" by Latin funk band Barrabas. I first heard this in Todd Terje's Essential Mix and I had to have it.

CHIC - (FUNNY) BONE

(Funny) Bone is the B-side of the "I Want Your Love" 12". In some ways this is Chic in its purest form. There are no vocals on this track so Nile Rodgers' guitar and Bernard Edwards' bass really get a chance to shine. Everything about this song is a party, from the crowd noise to the bright pink vinyl.

CUT COPY - FUTURE (ZONGAMIN REMIX)

In the early 2000's dance music was somewhat new to me. At the time, DFA Records had just recently begun to help me understand disco, a genre by which I had previously been repulsed. I started stumbling upon other similar artists, two of which were Cut Copy and Zongamin. Luckily for us, these two artists came together on this 2004 Kitsune Records release. This is one of the first records I purchased when I started DJing. Its a wonky remix, but I think that's why I love it.

IAN DURY & THE BLOCKHEADS - INBETWEENIES

I recently started diving into the music of Ian Dury & the Blockheads. This band's music was largely the collaborative effort of cockney wordsmith, Ian Dury and British funkster, Chaz Jankel. What resulted was a blend of bouncey, jazzy, disco beats and odd-ball, post-punk, vocals that really set this band apart from anything else at the time. I just picked this record up at Amoeba last week and I can't seem to turn it off.
