curiosity, my favourite murderer.
What’s on your mind right now?
it’s funny, the screen / makes your skin / look more tan and mine more pale / here’s a tale— the tail-end of a conversation we shouldn’t be having online / you’re mine, i think, i don’t know if i feel it. what i feel is / my heart is / always sinking / i am thinking / every time is the last time. love’s final rhyme. our holy crime is that your favourite scent is not mine / and my mind / is hell-sent. cursed. you are vexed i am hexed with memory and remembrance my god, he danced with you. a slew of colours faded / you sang he sang, where did he kiss you that i can’t / there is a chorus of demons in my chest / i know / the best way to kill myself is to ask—
do you love him? still?
@nosebleedclub - oct 12. “i adore you” (you, you, only you)
(april, 6. the love you’ve given.)

What is unfurling?
i don’t know.
i think it’s the paper flowers. the truth i’ve folded into origami lies. glued onto dry branches.
i know the trunk’s been dead for months now, i know i look like a goddamn fool watering what’s decomposing. i think i was hoping that if i just manifested well, if i just wanted it hard enough, if i tried and continued like normal, the leaves would grow back. bear fruit. make it all good again.
i just thought the roots were strong. i thought since it had lived through droughts and typhoons that what i had was unbreakable. when the leaves started falling, i said just in time for autumn. when the cracks started showing, i said oh it’s from the usual winter cold. and when they started spreading, i said well maybe i can fill it in with gold.
i said -
it’s probably nothing.
look away from the regret and loss and heartbreak written on the papers i painted sunflower yellow. look away from the creases where the tears and the questions and the i want to stop missing you’s hide.
but look,
i don’t understand. is it my fault? could i have done anything else? offered more than water and sunshine and songs?
my beautiful tree and its bright flowers. don’t they seem just so fucking perfect?
Are you ready?
yesterday and yesterweek and yesteryear, yes. i have been waiting, ready for so long i have begun to stagnate.
please hear me.
i fear my body is forgotten. rotting. about to rot. like i am food left out too long. like i am the childhood bicycle my mom promised she would have fixed but has slowly unremembered. like i am the plants i have not watered in weeks. i am ready and crumbling, i am the saber-toothed cat poised to pounce and the still, quiet water of a dead pond.
prepared and unprepared. alive and dying. i am always two things at once. the decay is a reflection and my own creation. the decay is something i nurtured lovingly. the decay is something i strived to eradicate.
(it has stayed. stays. will stay. all the rot and the dark and the ghosts.)
but: ready or not ready?
not anymore. i have been waiting for it anyway. please give it to me.
(does a lamb know it was bred for slaughter? when it finds out, does resentment course through its veins? father does it hope to be of use again does it hope for a better life or does it just wait to die)
inside my soul are the ghosts of abraham and isaac and they are playing out that story, only there’s no ram and no messenger and no god to say “stop, you have proven yourself faithful”. inside my soul is genesis chapter twenty-two verses one to thirteen, only it is just me perpetually offering myself, binding myself, raising the knife and obeying.
i am the sacrifice you raised me to be. i swallow the resentment and let it rust and deteriorate where i think no one can see. i am giving. i am still trying. is that not perfect?
no. my mother and i are sitting in the dark and she is crying and telling me she has failed me. i am twenty-one (xxi) with rage and venom and blood under my nails and she is apologizing for my childhood with closed eyes and her head bowed like she’s confessing in church instead of talking in my room.
for a prayer she says “i’m sorry. i see you, i know you’re struggling. i’m sorry it was all put on your shoulders” and for amen she says “i want you to be happy now, too”.
be happy now, too.
lord what is happiness? is it not to slice my chest and bleed into the soil for their grain lord is it not to eat the rind so there’s enough fruit for the rest lord if that was not right why was i made for this. why have i grown like this why am i me?
my mother says “my love, live for yourself. you deserve to be free.” but god hear me have i proven myself faithful? worthy? perfectly useful?
mother, forgive me. forgive me.
all i know is this cross.
all i know is to live for my family.

Did you treat yourself and others well this summer?
there is a text from you stewing in my inbox from a week ago that says: “it upsets me when you just stop talking i wish you’d keep your word and stay”
bestie, my love, i know i haven’t talked to you in a hot minute but in the back of my mind and the depths of my soul you’re half of me.
i know that’s stupid. i wonder why my brain works like that — i don’t say hi while you wait for a reply and for some reason i think, ‘yep this is fine we’re cool we’re still close.’
i know that means i’m taking you for granted. i know that’s stupid. i was trying to not be just-words-and-no-actions when i said you’re my heart but
i have to wonder if it’s why i disappear sometimes. if it’s because i know you’ll be there when i find myself again. and then i have to wonder how much it will hurt to have you leave, actually. to hear you say you’ve had enough and that you need space. i wonder if it’ll feel relieving to get that message from you, the anxiety washing away because i don’t have to wait for your move.
i wonder if it’ll feel bittersweet, like i’ve been waiting for you to say that since you first said i’m your soulmate and you love me. like i’ve been waiting for you to figure out i’m not a good person or friend at all. i wonder if it’ll kill me. i wonder how much it will break my heart (and your heart. it wouldn’t be easy on you, you’ve wasted so much of your time on me). will it break like it has before or will this be a new kind?
i wonder if it’ll be better for me. for you. if it’ll wake me up. if you’ll finally be happier. with better friends, friends who don’t disappear for months, friends who are always there, friends who show you they love you just as much as they say it. i wonder if typing all this is my way of saying i will miss you and i miss you and i’m missing you even before you say goodbye.
i know i’m an asshole. i’m wondering why i’m trying so hard to convince you i am when it makes me want to be better that you think i’m not.
i know i haven’t treated you well all summer. i’m sorry. i don’t know how to step out into the heat right now.
How did it feel to wake up?
dear diary, the past 3 years have been exhausting. i have been feeling like i am in the middle of the ocean, flapping my arms to stay afloat in the midst of the wreckage of a ship and above me the night sky is still bright and twinkling. like i went to bed eighteen and i woke up twenty-one years old, clutching the broken shards of a falling star. (tell me, was depression the sleeping or the wishing?)
dear diary, today, my friends’ group chat had a thousand messages and i chimed in with a cat pic.
(the conversation halted. it became awkward, stilted, and i found myself regretting having sent anything in the first place.)
dear diary, my best friend is in london with a high-paying job and i see his mother’s post - “groceries bought by my son! restaurant treat by my son!”. a friend from seventh grade is on tiktok talking about how modeling is tiring but so rewarding and she’s showing off the brand deals she’s gotten. today my cousin calls to say he’s graduating magna cum laude.
diary, today i rubbed my eyes a little too hard because i could’ve sworn we’d just graduated high school, i could’ve sworn i still had all the time in the world to catch up to them, but the girl in the mirror looks tired and heartbroken and too quiet. i find myself asking when she last laughed and she asks me the same and we don’t answer.
diary, someone asked me how it felt to wake up. diary, i’m sorry, i wish my answer was funnier. but i’m lonely.
waking up just feels so lonely.
Between us
- a secret. i have been chasing golden drops of sun since i let go of my mother’s hand. since the tenth year. since the day i taught myself to drive around landmines and scribble a map into existence. i said, happiness is there, there, just out of reach.
and i was twelve when i caught one. (it tasted like chlorine and shampoo and freedom and disappointment.) there was a girl by the water and she looked pretty with her hair all wavy and wet and i thought, if i were a boy i would have liked to kiss her. but i was a girl. and i was a leaf in the wind when she swam away.
september walked in and i was bored in class when you passed me a note in neat handwriting: hi, you’re pretty. do you want to be friends? yes / no.
the taste of happiness, our english teacher said. she was waxing poetic, talking about twilights and dumplings, bubbles and laughter, forests and berries, roses and thorns
but i was thirteen and i was starting to forget what it tasted like. if i tried, i could recall medals and books and playtime and clouds. if i tried, i could taste iron, taste paper, taste the words i had to swallow to keep the peace. if i tried, i thought i could taste yes.
i thought i could taste sunsets.
so i searched for silver drops of moon after clawing my way out of the mud. after the seventeenth year. after telling myself to tear down the stop signs and turn the stupid, goddamn map into a torch. i said, happiness is there, you know, just in the night.
and i was nineteen when i reached for one. (it tasted like spicy shrimp and sellotape and blue birds and loneliness.) there were poems in my notes: where sea meets sky, my soul longs to know her the way lightning knows sin, the way treasure chests know gold, the way oceans know rain. i was saying, i am a girl and i would like to kiss her.
it is december of this cursed year and my hands are cold and i am cold but i stay beside you on the rooftop where our breaths are fairies moving with the wind.
the taste of happiness? you smile around your strawberry lollipop. you say, “i think it would taste like peaches.”
because we are twenty, trying to remember what it used to taste like. before ashes. before tears. before wishes. when i was a kid i think i tasted stars. now i think - maybe like honey. like cake. like ice cream. like lollipops. like my peach shine lip balm. like i love you. like, what else but you?
it is at the tip of my tongue. i swallow. say, “just between you and me, i think it would taste like strawberries.”
like a secret. like, who else but you, you, you.

hi. i think i’m doing a bit better now. i’m not angry about it anymore. breathing doesn’t seem so hard once you talk things out. who knew huh? i’m still stuck on the third page of search results of how to be a more understanding girlfriend. ten things you should know if you are in a committed relationship. here’s what you’re missing in your love life.
(unfinished)
i wish you chose to love me longer.
i read the word “feral” and i suddenly thought of you again. because that was our joke, wasn’t it? that you’re feral, and i’d go feral for you. and pieces of my heart dropped to my stomach then rose up my throat like bile and i,
i was doing so well i was even laughing but i thought of you and i can’t laugh when i’m missing you. so bad.

WAIT IT’S CALLED A THROW PILLOW
here is a super helpful website for this kinda thing!
the first result isn’t always the one you’re looking for but when you press enter it’ll give you a ton of words related to your query that’ll probably have what you’re wanting, or something better
here’s some examples:
Reblog to save a writer’s sanity (the last bit that’s left)
your father warned you about a boy like him. he told you about your mother almost having to give you up when she couldn’t pay the price of his magic. he put you to sleep with stories about a boy who spun gold with his fingers, some straw, and a spinning wheel, about a boy whose mouth spilled gems and diamonds when he spoke.
and your father told you never to trust him. never make a deal with him. don’t even talk to him.
your father told you: if you make that mistake, Know His Name.
but the lights are dimming, the stars are dying and you can’t remember who he is and why he’s so bad when he called you pretty and treated you so good, when he told you he could solve all of your problems: money, relationships, anything else you want.
it’s not until the morning after the Deal when you realise what you’ve done.
“i know your name,” you yell out to no one. to him. you know he’s listening. “i know who you are, and i want no part of this deal.”
he doesn’t appear, but you can hear the sinister grin in his voice. the maliciousness. “times have changed, dearie. rumplestiltskin is my name, but that is no longer my game. your contract is binding, and i have your soul ready for burning. see you in ten years.”
your father’s warnings were never enough with temptation so good.
the devil always did come good-looking.
best of luck to you in a decade.
there’s a girl who deals with fire on a daily basis
the fire that loves, the fire that helps, the fire that hurts
her mother spits flaming words and molten demands disguised as suggestions
her father has burning hands and eyes that leave scorching marks
and every day she takes them on, she breathes it in
she moulds the hurt, the pain, the fire and the ash
into something good
into love for her friends, into love for her sisters, into love for her cat,
into hope that it’ll be better
she cups the flames in gentle hands,
the glowing embers mirrored in playful eyes
and she gives the good parts to people
to people who deserve it
to people who don’t
because she loves indiscriminately and truly and wholly
and it’s no fault of hers if they take advantage of the heat,
of the warmth and the light
if they run like the opposum from the stories, stealing fire from the woman
because here’s a secret she doesn’t know:
she’s got a star for a heart
the sun for a smile
and star fire is different from normal fire
maybe that’s why she’s brighter, ethereal, her personality kinder than people deserve to see
maybe that’s why when her parents cough ashes to try and bring her down,
she gets back up
and moulds again.
There are people who you can sit and quietly watch the night sky with and there are people that you sit with while you both make comments about finding a constellation shaped like a dick and sometimes if you’re really lucky you find someone who is both
i wanna say i’m lucky that you’re both, but if i say i’m lucky that means meeting you was pure chance and if the circumstances were different then i wouldn’t have you right now
so i want to believe that meeting you was written in some small unknown prophecy, and maybe we’re not meant to save the world but we were meant to save each other from ourselves when it got too much sometimes
i want to believe that whoever’s playing sims with us made two idiots and brought them together, i want to believe that beside that dick constellation there’re twin stars and they’re our hearts
i guess what i’m trying to say is i’m not lucky, i was blessed and god i love you
