this was a real challenge, 2017 was not much of a gold-mine.
many big title flops, and many a-list stars picking the wrong role, at the wrong times, along the wrong cast.
usually i talk about these things at my youtube small Chanel, but thanks to defrancos lunatic fans i lost my Chanel for-ever !
anyway, lets start with a small hint =
the attention and the over-sell factor an a-list star plays at the momentum of the movie/release makes it harder to scale that production.
there is always the spoiled reception + expectation of that a-lister !
(the tower) was doomed before its release due to the fact that it had mega names attached to it, that novel adaptation was facing sheer pressure by just adding such huge names ( Mathew + Edris ) .
& the director already had to rush ( 3 books ) into one release + with a mere hint of a possible second sequel .
but it was recieved in bad way, and the rushed production made it even less of an impact.
on another example = (wonder woman) played it cards right, when it brought a medium-level star ( gal gadot) and bet its money on the premise of
wonder woman = wonder woman
wonder woman = mega super star name ( ex = sandra bulok )
anyway, lets start with top 10 movies of 2017
10) Michael Shannon is a huge gem, ever since ( boardwalk empire) and this actor was and still improving , and every year he must appear one way or another in my lists , and this year he appears in the 10th place with the movie
the movie had yet another talented actors = judy greer / Christina Hendricks
& original plot ( escape-isim genre ) providing a light-heart comedy .
9) Bryan Cranston breaks out of his (villain) role & plays yet another (escape-isim) role and this time in the master-piece
and the reason this movie is amaster-piece is that Bryan plays the Live-action narrator of the movie, a spectator watching his family live from the other building, of-course he is accompanied by the brilliant dramatic performer of
8) Jeremy Renner & Elizabeth Olsen set a new example of great chemistry and dynamics when they appeared in the movie
a brutal /who done it / crime genre set in the snow, and it was captivating (plot & scenes)
the events flew naturally and the acting was brilliant .
7) Daniel Kaluuya & Allison Williams manage to present us with the exact opposite of couples chemistry, instead = the offer (dysfunctional duo ) in a brilliant way, in the movie
even thu the movie betrayed itself at the very last with a sci-fi twist, but it kept a suspence and thril ride for the whole time, (( yes , it might be using white-guilt too much )) but it used it in a great way and it didnt look over-cooked.
6) thomas jane was remarkable and pure joy in his (horror-thrill ) movie =
the way he narrated and played his role was nothing shy from super !
6) Keanu Reeves kept his composer and used it right, in the second installment of ( john wick 2 ) and this time he added more in-depth physicality and even tried harder with plot .
the movie makes a high rank due to 2 simple reasons = the amount of camera work involved, and the reality of sheer action (specially between keanu vs common ) the train fight was a pure rush !
5) tom cruise ( yep ! that tom ) in his (true CIA fields action movie )
this movie brings 2 things to the table =
a) new action shots ( free style airplane mode , so far ONLY tom cruise managed that in mummy /M.I.6/ and now this )
b) classic American style movie ! a solid story , a subtle lights, clear dialogues & no (kids/CGI/Extra Gore ) involved , it brought back the era of 90′s and the whole action packed movies of such times.
4) Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris all 3 worked so natural and very great in the movie
a Biblical / Horror adaptation focusing on the whole (creation ) story .
the plot was in ( spoiler!! ))
the plot was in ( self-repeat ) from the first scene, but the way it covered almost all humanity’s movements and emotions was spectacualr .
3) Vince Vaughn at his BEST in the movie
the purest example of how to use gore & shock value in a movie without it becoming a cheap jump scare horror, this thrill movie is a marking point and a brilliant addition to the director ( who made bone tomahawk before ).
2) Sharlto Copley in the comedic thrill
this is becoming a genre of its own ( British gang related stuff escalating quickly)
seriously there is no other way to describe that genre, and it is always such a joy and a rarity as well.
lock stock and 2 smoking barrels/ cake were the last , but this one is a great addition.
Adam :the Mirror + Zygot .
its a cocktail of movies, shorts, but such a thrill ! such an impact.
