Concept of Time
Good afternoon,
It is currently 12:16PM here in New Zealand. It is Day 5 of the Isolation here, and I am doing okay. It feels kind of weird knowing that I have been at home for 5 days in a row. It hasn't even been a week yet. But knowing that I am safe gives me peace of mind. It is a beautiful day here in Auckland. For the past couple of days I have tried to keep myself busy by making a video edit for my first week in Isolation. It is rewarding knowing that I do have all the time to do whatever I please. Time is a weird concept and although we take It for granted most of the time, being in isolation has made me aware that time is important and if we have it in the palm of our hands, we are solely responsible for that time. We must choose carefully what we do with that time.
Everyday I wake up and wonder what I am going to be doing. Sometimes I overthink it too much and end up actually wasting time thinking about what I should do next. I need to learn to just be and do whatever I am thinking about. If I dwell on it too much then I am just going to end up in a world of thoughts and before you know it an hour has gone by with me just thinking about what I should do. I know I must sound crazy right now but this is how I've been feeling and I need to acknowledge that.
Instead of thinking negatively about this isolation, I am trying to be on a road of positive thoughts. Looking at the glass half full, I have embraced this 4 week period of time to really see it as a blessing. Maybe the world has decided that this is what is needed for everyone to realise what they are faced with. We as humans are constantly busy bees, we are always trying to chase the next best thing. Wake up, exercise, go to work, come home and work some more. In the weekends we are trying to rush around doing housework, running errands, shopping because we didn't have time for all of that during the week. You may think that all this sounds great and productive and is all apart of human life. Yes, it is, but I think what we are missing is that we do not often get the time that we usually crave to do the things we really want to do. You can interpret that how you like.
How I view it is that we are often always wanting to pick up these new hobbies, learning a new skill, or revisiting that good ol talent you used to have and enjoy. For me, that is video editing. I used to really enjoy sitting down and just editing a little holiday video. I may not be the best but it gave me peace and allowed me to be in my own zone. I would be able to reflect on those memories that I once were immersed in, looking back at the times where I was able to go outside. This has also allowed me to appreciate the freedom of being outside more, and I will await the day where we are allowed to do that again. With the isolation happening, so many people will be able to revisit those days again. They will have the time to do what they really want to do, rewind and express their creative thoughts through their hobbies. The chance to do all that is now, and if we don’t see that in front of our eyes then we may never get the chance to do this again.
Time is so precious.
