tyleroakley interviews Lecrae at the Grammys (video).
“It’s important to remember our struggles for equality, as well as measure them against our current situation,” says Teen Movie Night Curator Aanya. “For the next Teen Movie Night, I have decided to screen the movie Selma. There are several parallels that can be drawn from the film and events that are popping up in the news everyday.”
After two amazing Movie Nights this fall, we’re launching our next Brooklyn Musuem Teen Movie Night inspired by the exhibition Agitprop! and artists’ calls to action to demand civil rights, human rights, and racial justice. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, Ava DuVernay’s film Selma (2014, 128 min, PG-13) chronicles the historic 1965 voting rights campaign led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Join Aanya and #bkmteens in asking the question: “What has truly changed and how can we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?” It’s this Friday January 22nd, and it’s sure to be an evening of inspiration, contemplation, and—as always art, music, food, and friends! Screening begins at 4:45PM—free and open to all teens 13+.
