Celebrating Mothers Day, One Mother To Another.
As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s important to remember that not all families with children can even afford the basics, let alone celebrating Mother’s Day with lavish gifts.
St Kilda Mums (an organisation I love and have been supporting for a few years now) is running its ‘One Mother to Another’ campaign again this year. If you are a family that enjoys giving gifts on Mother’s Day, One Mother to Another is a great opportunity to gift another Mum some everyday essentials.
All you have to do is pack a toiletry bag with everyday, essential items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, body lotion, and so on, and post it to 2-4 Vale Street, St Kilda 3182 (for arrival by May 11). Or, if you’re in the area, why not drop your gift off at St Kilda Mums’ HQ and check out their fabulous operation first hand. Just check the website for opening times and other details.
The thing I love about this campaign is that you get to include a handwritten note of support with your gift, which makes it a beautiful, personal, celebration of motherhood.
St Kilda Mums will give your gift to a Mum who needs it. She might be homeless, living in a refuge or suffering financial hardship. What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than to support another Mum in need?
Before you drop off your gift, make sure you take a photo to post on social media, encouraging other Mums to donate a gift as well, and remember to include #onemothertoanother in your post so the St Kilda Mums team can see it too.
If you’re feeling extra generous ask your kids and/or partner to donate a gift to St Kilda mums in lieu of your own. However, this should come with some serious conditions attached, such as breakfast in bed and/or a pyjama day!
Nappy Collective: May Nappy Drive
It’s almost that time of year again as The Nappy Collective gears up for the first of its two annual nappy drives from May 4 to May 18, 2018!
While my days of nappy wrangling are well and truly over, it’s still really important to me to help spread the word for this important cause.
I love that the Nappy Collective was founded in 2013 by a group of mums who had just six nappies left over and didn’t want to waste them.
Their initiative grew to collect unused, outgrown, disposable nappies from families across the country which were then redistributed to organisations that support families in crisis. Since their humble beginnings they have collected more than two million nappies to help families in need!
So, with Mothers Day fast approaching, if you have left over nappies, please gather them up and drop them to one of the Nappy Collective’s collection points. With 64 cities and towns involved and 410 collection points across Australia, there’s bound to be one near you! Click here to see the full list of locations.
It doesn’t matter how few nappies that you have left over, as the team at the Nappy Collective say, a handful of leftover nappies may not mean much to you, but collectively it can make a huge difference.
If you don’t have nappies to donate but you’re a mum who wants to help other mums in need, then why not give your time by volunteering to help sort nappies instead? Click here to register.
If you don’t have the time to volunteer right now but you’re interested in future opportunities, you can sign up for the Nappy Collective newsletter here.
And if you want to help, but you don’t have the time to volunteer to sort nappies, or you don’t have a baby (so you don’t have any left over nappies), then why not purchase a bag of nappies and donate them at one of the drop off points or donate online so the Nappy Collective can purchase new nappies?
Australian Mother’s Day Gift Guide
As an Aussie Mum who has lived in the UK for a good part of my life as well (and still LOVE to visit as much as I can) I feel I’m allowed to celebrate Mother’s Day twice - the Northern Hemisphere version in March and on Sunday May 13 the Southern Hemisphere! As far as I’m concerned, you can’t celebrate such an important day too much! Earlier this year I put together a gift guide for all my UK peeps wanting to treat their Mums so I thought it only right that I do the same for all the Mums celebrating in Australia and the USA.
I love breakfast in bed, especially when it is prepared by little hands with love, and on the occasion where I’ve received a side order of jewellery on my breakfast tray, it’s made the toast and honey even sweeter. At the moment I’m loving the ‘By Charlotte’ collection. From delicate bracelets, to necklaces and earrings, the designs aren’t just decorative, founder Charlotte Blakeney believes you should have an emotional connection to every piece you wear. It’s a philosophy I love, and a great option if you want to buy Mum something meaningful rather than simply ornamental.
In the spirit of giving – and jewellery that means something – i’ve long been a fan of ‘The Giving Keys’. I love everything about this company. Based on the core value that “Who we’ll be tomorrow is not defined by who we were yesterday,” their individual keys (available in necklaces, bracelets and earrings), and the new disc collection, are embossed with inspirational words like ‘dream’, ‘create’ and ‘inspire’.
The Giving Keys philosophy is ‘pay it forward’ and they encourage you to embrace your inspirational word or quote (my favourite is ‘Seek to be whole, not perfect’), then pass it on when you meet someone else who needs that inspiration.
When you buy a piece of The Giving Keys’ stunning jewellery you’re helping to support job creation for people transitioning out of homelessness. I love the ripple effect of this gift. What a brilliant way to make Mum feel good, and to spread the love on her special day!
If you fancy giving your mum, or mum you know, a more experience-orientated gift then I can’t recommend a Business Chicks membership highly enough. Business Chicks is Australia’s largest community enabling women to connect, collaborate and engage. Buy your Mum a membership and she’ll also receive an annual subscription to Latte magazine, a free monthly online masterclass, access to educational events at discounted rates and, most importantly, the opportunity to attend some of the best events in Australia featuring the most influential women around!
Everyone deserves a little pampering on Mothers Day and Aromatherapy Associates is my go-to when I want to achieve that spa-day-at-home feeling. This Aromatherapy Face Oil Collection is crafted to provide your skin with all the nourishment it needs – and this kit is the perfect size for popping in your carry-on when you’re travelling and your skin needs it most.
I love reading my horoscope on Mystic Medusa. If you are looking for a gift this Mother’s Day, then this is something different and super cool for any Mum who loves astrology. The six-week access package is very affordable and a great Mother’s Day treat.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer a homemade gift for mum, why not whip up these gorgeous little chocolate tarts from ‘My lovely little lunch box’. Not only are they delicious, they are vegan and completely guilt free! Not to mention, easy to make. Check out the recipe here…
And speaking of homemade Mothers Day gifts, ArtRooms is a brilliant way to curate the treasured artworks your children bring home from kindy and school. You just select your favourite artworks, either send the originals, or scan and email them to ArtRooms, and their designers piece together the perfect collage and deliver it back to your door. The brainchild of Melbourne Mum Karen Tibb, it’s a simple but elegant solution to displaying your children’s artworks once you run out of fridge magnets!
It’s my firm belief that every Mum should enjoy a pyjama day on Mother’s Day! For a really quality pyjama day, you do of course need really quality pyjamas. Look no further than my absolute favourite Peter Alexander. In my view, a day spent in Peter’s PJs is the ultimate gift.
What’s my favourite thing to do on a pyjama day? Read books in bed!
Ninety-five year old New Yorker Iris Apfel has long been one of my style icons and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of her new book: Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon. Musings of a Geriatric Starlet. Apparently it’s filled with photos and illustrations that haven’t been published before, and there’s even an Iris Apfel Halloween costume you can make with your little ones.

Happy Mothers Day to all the UK Mummies celebrating this weekend
It’s Mothers Day in the UK on Sunday so, plan ahead! I’m talking breakfast in bed, flowers and taking over any chores that mum usually does, so that her day is special.
If you’re still looking for something special to give your Mum on her big day, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite gift and experience ideas to give you some inspiration.
I love reading my horoscope on Mystic Medusa. If you are looking for a gift this Mother’s Day, then this is something different and super cool for any Mum who loves astrology.
Is there anything more quintessentially British than a cup of tea with biscuits? Biscuiteers Boutiques and Icing Cafes are offering special Mothers Day afternoon tea packages and if you book before March 11 your booking will include a DIY icing session. Perfect for creative mums! Online they have gorgeous bouquets of bickies, that can be delivered to her doorstep.
If you’re near Biscuiteers’ Northcote or Nottinghill boutiques, they have a delicious range of chocolates, biscuits and cakes you can pick up for Mum, and, if you have something else planned for Mothers Day on Sunday, you can buy Mum an afternoon tea voucher to enjoy together in the future.
I’m a big believer in the power of aromatherapy, and have been a fan of Aromatherapy Associates’ products for the longest time. They have a divine range of gifts, perfect for the Mum who needs a bit of pampering, and they have day spas located across the UK if you fancy treating Mum to an immersive aromatherapy experience in a gorgeous location.
They have just released a limited edition Eau De Parfum in memory of their co-founder Geraldine Howard, who created this blend of Sicilian Bergamot, Turkish Rose, Sandalwood and French Cassis….yummy!
Wishing all the UK Mummies the happiest of Happy Mothers Days for Sunday. Have a cup of tea (or a glass of bubbles) for me!!!
Girl power for IWD 2018
It’s International Women’s Day today, and this year the campaign is asking ‘how will you #pressforprogress and motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
You can share the ways you’re going to press for progress on social media using the hashtags #pressforprogress and #IWD2018 and you can download Press For Progress selfie cards here.
One group of women who were ahead of their time in pressing for progress are the Spice Girls and I’m loving all the rumours that they are going to reform this year. From Wannabe to STOP to Who Do You Think You Are, their music was the soundtrack of the 1990s and defined a generation of strong, empowered, vocal women.
Last seen performing as a five-piece at the 2012 London Olympics, I think it’s high time they spice up our lives, say they’ll be there and make headlines by making a comeback!
Pyjama guru Peter Alexander has embraced girl power in his latest ‘Powerpuff Girls’ PJ collection. ‘Saving the world before bedtime!!!’
My favourite cupcake shop, Cupcake Queens are powering Melbournians’ International Women’s Day celebrations with these sweet treats carrying the IWD logo.
Happy International Women’s Day! Look forward to reading everyone’s #pressforprogress messages on social media in the coming days.

A galaxy of Christmas gift inspo
Christmas is all about tradition and it’s become traditional in the last few years for me to put together a little Christmas gift guide to share on my social media. This Christmas list includes things I’d genuinely love to see in my Christmas stocking this year (nobody’s ‘sponsored’ me to include them, or gifted them to me, unless I explicitly say so) and they’re things you might like to pop on your list to Santa – or drop some broad hints to your loved ones about – too! With Christmas coming hot on the heels of my new single Galaxy this year, you might sense a little bit of a theme to this year’s gift guide that will make the festive season even more sparkly than usual! Wishing you a very merry Christmas filled with love, friends, family (and a couple of gorgeous pressies under the tree)!
Wanderlust & Co zodiac jewellery
A merry Christmas will be written in the stars if you receive a piece from Wanderlust’s collection of 14 carat gold plated rings and earrings. What’s your star sign?
The Night Sky star map
Mark a moment in time that means something to you – or someone you love – with a map that captures the stars in the sky as they looked ‘the night your heart skipped a beat. One for big stargazers and little stargazers alike.
By Charlotte Venus bracelet
Some people want to hold a galaxy in their hands, personally I’d be happy to wear this 14 carat gold and diamond galaxy around my wrist! An ode to Venus, the goddess of love, it’s part of By Charlotte’s ‘Diamond Sky’ collection.

As well as fresh edible flowers, you can get edible leaves and dried flowers, all in a rainbow of gorgeous colours to brighten up your plate.
Burch & Purchese goodies “Every bite, merry and bright” is the tagline for Darren Purchese’s mince pies that means they fit perfectly into my Galaxy-themed gift guide! PS: check out their amazing gingerbread house – created especially for Christmas 2017!

Described as a starry-eyed constellation of robust, sweet and velvety smooth notes, this tea tastes absolutely incredible with a delicious, Christmassy, gingerbread flavour. I love everything about it from the fragrant leaves of the tea to the galaxy of stars on the cube packaging but if gingerbread isn’t your thing they do a T2 Five selection with a flavour to suit every taste.
Alessi coffee spoons
Stir a little love into your morning coffee (or tea) with these elegant heart-shaped stainless steel coffee spoons. They come in a set of four, and would look gorgeous shining bright next to your cup and saucer on Christmas morning.

Danniiver$ary: $ucce$$
On this day in 1990 $ucce$$ – the second single from my album Love and Kisses – was released in Australia. (It was remixed and released in the UK in 1991.)
This song was written waaaaay before social media became a way of life but the lyrics below, highlighting the highs n’ lows of fame, ring even more true today than they did when the song was written...
Can you handle bright lights Parties every Friday night Limousines, club scenes, money that keeps rollin' in Cameras at every block Gossip that will never stop That's the lifestyle of success
$ucce$$, If you want it $ucce$$, If you need it $ucce$$, Come and get it $ucce$$ Oh Oh Oh
What does $ucce$$ mean to you? Tweet me @DanniiMinogue and hashtag #Danniiversary #$ucce$$
A touch of sparkle
Meet inspirational artist from Brisbane, Rachel Burke, who designed my fabulous tinsel jacket for my performance at Central Station Records 40th anniversary party earlier this month.
I discovered Rachel’s gorgeous creations on Instagram – you can find her at @imakestagram – and I became more and more fascinated by what she does as I learned the amazing story behind her work.
Back in September 2015 Rachel reconciled with a friend who she’d fallen out with. Struck by how easily the rift could be healed by a few simple words of apology, and the relief she felt once she’d apologised, she started to dig deeper into the psychology of the apology, and to question why people struggle with apologies and choose to live with the pain of alienation instead.
With that in mind she was inspired to attach some of her personal apologies to pompoms she’d handmade feeling the soft, wooly objects were a softer way of offering an apology. Once she started, the apology floodgates were open and she found she couldn’t stop. She apologized for things she’d done throughout her life – big and small – and soon had a massive collection of pompoms that she christened ‘apomogies’.
She decided to leave her apomogies around her house, then around her suburb, for people to find. Then she photographed them and shared them on social media. That opened another set of floodgates with people asking if they could share an apomogy too.
She decided to hold an apomogy-making workshop at her home and, with the participants’ permission, shared some of the pompoms on her social media channels too. That first workshop grew into more workshops at schools, galleries, festivals and nursing homes in China, Kenya, Brisbane, Melbourne, Greece and New York.
Watch Rachel’s apomogy Ted Talk to hear about some of the emotional, passionate, evocative and sometimes funny Apomogies.
I loved Rachel’s story as much as I loved the glittery pompom jackets that I spotted on her Instagram.
We are now planning a meet up – who said social media is bad???? Find like minded people that you are inspired by – find your tribe.

There are fabulous pieces by Dolce and Gabbana, John Galliano, Julien Macdonald, Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as local designers including Peter Morrissey and Mark Burnett.
A free exhibition, Kylie on Stage is on at the Mildura Arts Centre Gallery from August 19 to October 29, 2017.
