“Special suites us, doesn’t it,” Andi mused in response, as she felt her stomach flutter nervously. Sure her nerves weren’t nearly so bad around Danny but they were still there and talking about what made her nervous didn’t help. “Come here, Arbor,” she murmured, meaning to pull back once the dog had reached them. Before she could Danny was offering dinner and making her shiver once more. “That sounds great to me,” she agreed, finally pulling back just enough to reach out a hand and pet the once again trembling with excitement Arbor.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” He declared with a shrug of his broad shoulders as he watched her. He wouldn’t trade the relationship he had with Andi for anything; no matter what interactions they had along the way whether it wasspur of the moment kisses or the desperate looks he’d given her when she had been questioning himself and Cain. “Well great. We can go anywhere you want and I know this fella will not want to leave your side either now.” He laughed, watching Arbor’s tail wag frantically. “Sometimes I wonder if he even loves other people more than me.”
“Haven’t we already established that fussin’ is what I do? But fine, if you hurt yourself, you accept some fussin’. If you put in the dinin’ room, that would be great. Thank you. Oh yeah? The puppies I can see and it’s totally cute, didn’t really have you down as a flower picker though, it’s always the quiet ones that surprise you.”
“Fine. In the rare eventuality that I hurt myself, I’ll let you play Nurse. Dinin’ room, gotcha. And hey, I ain’t that quiet am I? Or maybe it’s just a role I play to make people think I ain’t got a secret passion for pansies.”
it’s not unusual // tom jones
it’s not unusual to be loved by anyone it’s not unusual to have fun with anyone but when i see you hanging about with anyone it’s not unusual to see me cry oh, i wanna die
“Oh my god, Danny! Put that down, if you’re not meant to be liftin’, I don’t want you to hurt yourself. I’ll deal with it later or somethin’, I don’t want your wrist to get any worse. Do you really need that to make you feel manly? I mean, we’ll go with it, but you’re definitely manly enough.”
“I can’t even feel it and the bones are basically inline now so there’s not even a problem. Stop your fussin’. And sure, I always like to do things that make me seem more manly. Like petting puppies and picking flowers.”
“Well you are saving my arms, so I’m very grateful. Just mind the front step before goin’ into the house and you’ll be fine. Nothin’ else to trip on. I’m tryin’ to decide if you’re just really strong, or I’m really weak.”
“Maybe I’ll just trip on it for effect. I’m almost gonna miss the wrist brace when I finally get it off. Not that I should be liftin’ anythin’ but don’t tell no one. It’s fine. And we’ll go with I’m super strong so I feel more manly.”
“I think I’m the probably the closest it’s come to actually happenin’. You happen to walk past at really handy times, you know that, right? Can I help? I don’t want you to hurt yourself.”
“I guess it’s not a bad thing for you though. And nope, I’m good. Just make sure I don’t trip on anythin’. Then I’d hurt myself.”

“Arbor? Like the city? That’s a cute name. Can I rent Arbor to scare them out? I don’t have a lot of money but I’ll definitely feed him and bathe him in return.” The last thing she wanted was to bring him back smelling like alcohol. “Don’t worry, girls would dig the beat up look, makes you look like a man.” She grinned at him before shrugging. “Yeah.. My dad.. He’s – he’s not in a really good place right now, so he’s been drinking himself to oblivion. Yeah, I never liked alcohol, don’t like the taste, never cared for it. My mom used to bartend and I get to go with her to work cause she couldn’t afford a babysitter. Never really saw the point of getting wasted into stupidity.”
“Yeah, like the city. Not many people get that. And sure, I won’t even charge so feeding him will do and it’ll make him your best friend for life. And trust me, you’d be surprised how many people have told me women dig the beat up look. As if they’re telling me to remain beat up forever.” He kept his tone light but it did slip when she mentioned her father. He didn’t actually know who this girl was as she was new and the last time they’d met he had been rude and grumpy. “Well everyone’s got a reason but people drinking themselves stupid...” He shook his head. She seemed so young to be dealing with stuff like this but he just guessed it was a fact of life. “Is he...okay? Like he don’t sound peachy but...surely you can’t handle all that on your own. Not to underestimate you or nothin’.”
I-I didn’t do anythin’ to deserve them.
You don’t gotta do anythin’. That’s not how compliments work.
“Why did I park so far away from my front door? Is it possible for your arms to actually fall off?”
“Medically, it’s probably possible. Now move aside before ya hurt yaself.”
Whose turn is it to bring food? Me or you? We could go to the store to get something if you’d like.
It’s mine. I do have cheese and two bags of tortilla chips in the cupboard though.
Josephine never grew up around dogs, but after Lex left, she would spend a lot of weekend at shelters, volunteering to help the dogs out. They were excited to see her, once the got to know her. It seems as if this dog, Arbor, had no problem being excited without knowing who she was first. “Sweet boy.” She commented lightly, her head tilting to the side as she continued to rub the dogs face and behind his ears. The twist in her stomach became apparent, the love and unconditional affection the dog had, made her think of all the things she didn’t have.
Danny let Arbor have his moment. No matter how long he’d spend around people, he’d never tire of them. If he had guests over then the big pup wanted to be the centre of attention and lying across feet was his favourite way to get it. Either that or nose nudges. He wasn’t particularly noisy unless he was very excited but he was easily quietened with a soft command. “Do you have animals?” Danny asked curiously. “He seems very fond.”
Christopher Nolan ones or … ?
Nolan. Easy.
Um, okay… So now what? Obviously you stopped me from walking away …
Batman marathon?
What was that for?
I didn’t want you to walk away.
Hey-
Meh. I’ll be on my way. I’ll see you around, Officer.
Stop.
