Only a few broken ribs. Marcella Schlegel. Berkeley, CA.
About six weeks ago Marcella was in a car accident while traveling in Mongolia with her husband. This down vest was shredded with shards of glass while Marcella’s husband needed 25 stitches. She herself suffered a collapsed lung and a few broken ribs. Marcella kept using the word “only” while describing the accident and injuries. When asked why she was using the word in such a peculiar way she commented that they could have easily all died. Thanks for the remarkable #wornwear story and great spirit Marcella! We are glad you’re still around and repairing your gear!

“Only” is true. I am blessed to be writing this after an accident late last year that could of been worse. Everyday is an opportunity and we must all remember that.
This is an editorial piece on the pages of the Jan issue of Surface Magazine with artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt. He once found himself the roadie for Courtney Love’s band Hole and recently collaborated with Kanye West on the his “Life of Pablo” merchandise. He said this about that endeavor:
“I didn’t come out and say that I did it. I didn’t come out and say that I didn’t do it. But everyone who hit me up for interviews, I just told them, ‘No, thanks.’ Because to me, it’s a symptom of the times: People wanna be known so much, you know?”
My time in his studio and walking around the garment district of LA was one of the most pleasant with any human. An online interview with additional photos can be viewed here:

Little man started Pre K this week as the summerness feelings begin to wade and that means I’ll have more time to allocate toward updating what we’ve been up to.
Here is an ad for Bear Flag Fish Co. that was out in a few local magazines for the summer.
Our crew jumped on the Bear Flag family boat that was hand built in Newport Beach, Ca 35 years ago. From sunrise to sunset, we documented the daily rituals of catching local fish for their market and restaurants.
A motion piece behind the story here:

At times, its what it is.
Young practitioners now are expected to be good at verbalising their intentions, verbalising their results, self-promotion and networking etc. I think these lists are getting a little out of hand as they often highlight the opposite of what led me to photography in the first place. They often appear to be steered by few, friends of friends, publishers, authors, writers etc and perhaps this back scratching can lead to exclusion of many who make work who can’t or don’t want to ‘play the game’.
