kenickie was 15 while doody was 14 at the time. it was September 21st, which was doody's birthday. they've known each other for a few months now, but kenickie considered him a close friend.

doody heard a knock at his door, so he opened it.

he was surprised to see kenickie standing there, with a present in hand.

d: hey, what'cha got there?

k: a present. it. is your birthday, right? i'm not mixin' up the dates?

d: wait you- you. remembered?

k: yeah! why would i forget my friend's birthday?

d: i- ... thanks. you wanna come in?

k: sure! the others should be here in a couple minutes.

d: others?

k: yeah, danny, putzie, sonny, you know, those guys.

d: o-oh. right. cool.

it wasn't until a few years later when doody finally told kenickie that on that year, he was crying a couple minutes before he opened the door because his aunt and uncle had forgotten his birthday, and he assumed everyone else did too.

danny heard a knock at his door. he was alone, so he got up from the couch and opened the door to be greeted by a pissed off leo. before he could even speak, leo let himself in and pinned danny against the wall.

“the hell did you do to me!? you some kinda witch or somethin’? i’ve been thinkin’ about you.. all week and it’s driving me crazy! cha-cha even dumped me because i said your name instead of hers! what kinda curse did you put on me??”

danny went dead silent. just starring into leo’s eyes while his face flared up. barely opening his mouth and just stuttering.

leo got closer to danny’s face.

“maybe if i took out some anger on you.. you’ll get outta my head.”

danny whimpered and all he could mutter was;

“please do.”

different comforting methods from different greaser teens:

kenickie: uses a calm voice he picked up from sally, it helps him calm down so maybe it'll help you. gently tries to touch your arm or something to see if you're comfortable enough for a hug/to be held.

putzie: just sits with you. doesn't say anything and leans against you as a "i'm here."

sonny: horrible with words but will still try and cheer you up by acting stupid and telling dumb stories to try and put a smile on your face.

doody: "i'll give you some space." but if you ask him to stay, he'll sit down and listen.

danny: (i know what you are) holding. touch. he thinks physically being there is helpful, but if you don't want him to he'll back off.

frenchy: best listener. best advice giver. occasional jokes to try and make you feel better, but overall she'll sit with you for as long as you need her, give you whatever you need, therapist friend who doesn't mind.

rizzo: "you've been through a helluva lot worse, you can soldier through this. i know it." encouragement. validation. "look at how far you've come." "you're strong as hell for being able to go through this."

sandy: depends on the person. she has specific comforts for specific people because she knows who needs what. kenickie needs to be held, danny needs reassurance, rizzo needs validation, etc.

jan: "hey, it's alright. shit.. sucks a lot of the time. it'll blow over soon, alright?"

marty: 'you need something?'/'wanna go somewhere?'/'wanna do something?' comforting. distraction. "let me take your mind off of it."
