Axel wasnāt sure how he felt about the girls at his gym trying to set him up. He wasnāt sure how ready he would be for something like a blind date. He had been on a few, and they always seemed to go alright. Nothing spectacular though. After he had to cancel the birthday party they were going to throw for him, he didnāt really have an option but to accept their offer for a blind date. Dressed in nicer jeans, a plain black shirt and leather jacket, he made his way to where he was supposed to meet.Ā
Driving by, he noticed the lack of street parking, and he wasnāt about to park a Ferrari out front. Axel drove around the block to find a parking space. Getting out of the car, he checked his phone.Ā āShit.ā He was late. He jogged a little to get there so his date wouldnāt assume he was ditching her. Once Axel got to the restaurant, he looked around for his date. Spotting her, he exhaled slowly and made his way over. Sitting in front of her he smiled kindly.Ā āHi Daphne.. Iām Axel.ā He held out his hand to shake hers.Ā
Axel could tell why his gym friends figured he would like her. At first glance, she was cute and had a good smile, she also seemed polite. He knew they wouldnāt set him up with someone that was mean, so he already knew sheād be sweet.Ā āSo um.. do you want something to drink or eat?ā Axel wasnāt really sure where to start in this situation. First dates always felt like interviews for him.Ā āSorry I wasĀ late by the way⦠parking was a little crazy so I had to park and walk a little bit.ā He said with a charming grin.Ā
Just by looking at him, Daphne could tell that her friends had actually paid attention to her on the rare occasions that she had spoken about herĀ ātypeā. She didnāt like to admit it, but she definitely could categorise her past flings, and they all had a lot in common. Daphne looked away from him a little too quickly and at the strand of hair she had wrapped her finger, in fear of staring.Ā
āAxel.ā She tested the word on her tongue, liking how it felt,Ā āI donāt think I know anybody with that name. I almost wish my name was a little more exciting.ā She said, overly conscious that she was rambling.Ā āA drink sounds good.ā She nodded, smiling back optimistically,Ā āAnd donāt worry about it. I am normally the one to be late, so it was a nice change. It just so happened that I finished work when I was supposed to, and that normally never happens.ā She chuckled.Ā
She couldnāt tell from his body language whether or not he was nervous. She took a guess that he was not as anxious as she was. In the forefront of her mind, she tried to remember to be herself, and that that was the most important thing. Somehow that was proving more difficult than she had imagined. Ultimately, she decided to say the first thing that came to her mind,Ā āHonestly, I am not great at these sort of things. The girls at work were under the impression that Iāve not been with anybody for centuries and that I am beginning to get cobwebs-ā She stopped herself, shaking her head with a chuckle,Ā ābasically that I need to get back on the dating scene.ā
