On Shopping While Fat 2: Son of Fat

I feel the same way. It’s amazing.

The only thing I would add is that, as a fat person, I feel both invisible and hyper visible. People stare at me all the time. I don’t get catcalled, but I get “fat called” and any time I go to the grocery store, people criticize what I have in my cart. If I get salad, people say things like “good for you” or “who do you think you’re fooling?” If I get “unhealthy” food, people tell me “this is why you’re fat” and other stuff. Reclaiming my image has been powerful. If I like how I look, I don’t care what other people think. Of course the fat phobia still hurts, though.

Guys, I goofed!

Today I went online shopping for a new reversible belt, wanting to make sure I got something vegan-friendly. I found out that Lord & Taylor had a sale and was able to get a faux-leather black/brown reversible belt for only $20.

The PROBLEM was I forgot to check https://grabyourwallet.org/ before making my purchase, and afterwards found out L&T still sells Ivanka Trump products.

I know, I know, there’s no such thing as actual ethical consumption under capitalism, but still, I can try to avoid OVERTLY supporting the Trump family. I cancelled the order and sent an e-mail to their customer service group trying my best to shame them hard into dumping Ivanka. We’ll see if that leads anywhere! (Probably not)

Moral of the story is to keep checking https://grabyourwallet.org/ before you make any kind of purchase from a big chain! Until we overthrow capitalism we can at least fight the capitalists by messing with their business!
