darcy is the only son of a single mother , born in gainesville, florida. she was a a teenaged aspiring singer , his father a gigantic question mark. honestly , heās never really cared much about the man who provided half his dna. darcyās mother was the one there for him , & that was enough.
his childhood was a bit of a mess. he & his mother jumped around to wherever she could find a job. a friend in ohio offered her a bedroom & a gig at his club. after a year & a half there , they cruised around michigan spending their nights in dive bars , staying in motels & perfecting their ā dine nā dash ā.
as a result , he grew up Fast. he had to learn to read situations and make quick decisions. he is the calm eye of the storm , steady in treacherous waters and relatively unflappable. you wonāt see darcy lose his temper -- but you might catch a glimmer of impatience , if youāre lucky enough.
it was more of the same until he turned 17 & the duo settled in miami. his mother didnāt necessarily stop providing for him , but darcy saw how tough things were for her and decided to branch out on his own to give her space & freedom to pursue her dream. to this day he still sends her a part of his paycheck. ( big mommaās boy energy )
he wonāt admit it , but heās always craved stability. itās part of the reason heās so responsible -- darcy puts roots down wherever he can , even if he has to abandon them soon after. any sense of normalcy brings him comfort.
that , plus his momās tendency to be a bit . . . wild ? she never totally grew up , and it forced him to be her foil. she sees adventure , he sees danger.
if weāre being brutally honest : darcy parented himself. he set his own rules , his own boundaries. hell , he wouldāve even grounded himself had he been the type to even think about getting in any trouble. his mother has a big heart -- she taught him to love passionately and endlessly , to see the world as a beautiful ocean of opportunities. he may not have had many material things during his childhood , but he had all the love he could ask for. some people just arenāt meant to be parents.
but heās got this BRAIN. unlike his mom , who dropped out of hs in her senior year , darcy excelled in school. top grades , ap placements , etc. he just never stayed in one place long enough for it to really matter.

a lil bit of a know - it - all. starts off every argument w ā iām not going to argue with you ā nd then rapidly devolves into a passionate debate that only he cares about.
he is Always Right. periodt.
can come off as apathetic & cold , bc he is so logic - based. itās easier for him to take emotion out of the equation and proceed from there.
but ! he doesnāt lack empathy. heās always had trouble expressing himself in that way , and it makes him feel like an Other. he wants to understand people , and he does try.
heās sorta like a big brother : a touch arrogant , bit of a dick , but heās gonna look out for you , know matter what. darcy is the one you call when itās 4 am and you need someone to walk you home. heās got your back.

his friends might think of him as a bit of a fuddy - duddy , as heās always the first to point out the holes in any plan dreamt up by the more adventurous ones around him. he isnāt necessarily law - abiding or even morally above anyone else -- he just doesnāt want to do anything STUPID.
part of him misses his chaotic childhood , while the other part is grateful to have escaped it. consolidating the two is -- at this point -- impossible.
