unpopular opinion: the REAL murderer and sadist is Doorman. Meanwhile, Drifter, who's often portrayed as one, is actually a chill gentleman.

I'm convinced that painting in the hall refers to Drifter's past. Also from his dialogue, I can tell he's not rude at all and definitely not unhinged unlike Doorman who literally loses it at certain moments. Drifter's politeness is genuine, even if he's talking to a future victim, he won't lie.

I notice how people take Doorman's politeness and kindness at face value, like his lines to Paige or Victor. FORGET IT! His main goal is to lure more victims into the hotel, that's exactly why he's nice to them. He's two-faced, and I say this with all my love for him. We know 100% that he used to torture people and was a sadist, and when he needs to kill someone "with his bare hands" again, he's genuinely happy about it. Most of the info Doorman gives others is straight up lies. It’s a pleasant facade that people want to see, allowing him to hide his true nature, the one we only get to witness once we’re inside the hotel.

Meanwhile, Drifter is just honest and tired of vampire aristocracy and all that pretentiousness, so he chose a simpler lifestyle + hunting as a hobby. But he's NOT a sadist-psychopath at all.

I think they both have a sadistic personality, but the only difference both parties forget to acknowledge is that one was human and the other isn't, Drifters sadisim follows the boredom after living, while the doorman’s is to find the reason they do.
