getting healthy as a student pt.3
Thanks for requesting it!! So here’s some more of my phebby-fabulous tips
only do light exercise when sick
i’m serious!! You’re gonna do more damage than good if you try and smash out an intense workout when your sick so by light exercise I mean stuff like light yoga, walking, walking up a slight incline. Stuff like that.
make sure you’re getting enough nutrients
So this means tracking you’re getting 5 servings of fruit and veg A DAY! a serving is a cup. It means making sure you’re getting enough vitamins, get a blood test and see how your vitamin/mineral levels are!!
get enough sleep
seriously, sleep effects digestion, mood, cognitive functions, motor functions EVERYTHING! so if you’re not getting enough sleep, all of these will suffer. I see a sleep pathologist because I have sleep apnea and he says that everyone really should aim to be asleep between 9:00-9:30 and 10:00pm is pushing it! If you want to perform well, it starts and ends with sleep.
stop snacking out of boredom
honestly, I love food and I love eating really tasty foods but there’s a difference between good, filling meals and just stacking because you like the taste of cheese and crackers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely fine to snack, just be aware if you’re snacking cos you’re hungry or if you’re snacking because you have nothing else to do.
stop comparing yourself to the fitspo models
everyone carries their weight differently and just because you see someone looking a certain way online means it’ll be how you look if you train and eat exactly like them. Find your own way and stop comparing yourself. Trust me, you’re gorgeous and all that really matters is that you’re eating and exercising in a way that makes YOU feel good.
experiment!!
for me, I’ve figured out that my body works best on high fat, high protein and lower carbs. I FILL each meal with a massive amount of veg and it keeps me going! I’ve also realised that interval training and cardio are what make me feel best and fittest. It’s about finding what works for you.
Stop dieting
unless it’s something your doctor/medical professional is recommending for you, do not diet. Instead change your lifestyle one step at a time. Instead of leftover pizza for breakfast, try oats with fruit for a week and see how it makes you feel, then make an egg and zucchini slice and start having that instead of takeout. Then start adding veg to every meal. A gradual change is more likely to stick so just do things slowly, there’s no rush or deadline. This is about changing a lifestyle.
Find the types of exercise that works for you + a time
eg. I love interval training, it works best for my body and I also love running. Don’t be afraid to try out different things, there is no fitness mould. You don’t need a gym membership to be athletic. Also figure out whether you are the type of person to workout in the morning or night, and STICK TO IT!! there is nothing worse for me than working out at night when all I’ve been doing previously is working out in the morning!
Thanks for requesting a pt.3 guys! let me know if you want a pt.4 and feel free to send me asks about how your fitness journey is going + any tips on changing to a healthier lifestyle!
