The Only One - The Black Keys
What Are Friends For? || Clover & Mia & Cloud
Mia wasn’t breathing as Cloud leaned in closer. Her eyes were pinned to his, lost in their depths though she wasn’t sure he was seeing her. It didn’t matter. She couldn’t breathe or think or move, not when his fingertips were brushing like moonlight across her skin, leaving shivering traces in their wake. She closed her eyes, lost in the sensation of him so close. She must be dreaming. Maybe she’d done it, she’d killed herself. Everything with Clover had been a dream and now she was dead and she was in heaven
Except she couldn’t be. She’d never go to heaven. If she wasn’t worth this life she sure as hell wasn’t worth the next one. As his lips touched light as silk against her forehead her eyes flickered open and her breath found it’s way back to her lungs.
Her hands rose of their own accord and she watched in slow motion as her fingertips trailed across the soft skin of his collarbone. She could feel his heart beating against the other side of his bone, steady and strong. She trickled her fingers tip his neck, brushing her thumb across his lips and stroking the length of his jaw. He felt real beneath her fingers, he felt familiar, like her Cloud, but it couldn’t be real. The craziness of his words reinforced that. How could he have done something like that to the Casanovas? He was Cloud. He loved them.
She tilted her head forward, pressing her forehead against his chest where a moment ago his lips had been. His heart was louder here and she spread her hands across the bones of his ribs, trying to hold him all. She didn’t want the moment when she’d realise it wasn’t real.
“I don’t want you to go,” she whispered to the ghost or whatever it was that people got when they were in limbo. “I don’t care if they’re sending me to Hell but I can’t leave you now. I can hold you, there, I can feel you heart beat beneath my fingers. How can they take me away from that? I need you. More than anything."
Her beauty overwhelms Cal, as she wrapped her arms around him. He pressed her softness tight, as great passion fills his inner being, captured in her embrace, her eyes controlling his very soul. He had been running on no sleep for the last couple of weeks, and in the midpoint of his lacuna he had lost himself. But he had found his way to crawl back in the presence of Mia. It was hard on him to know that he had someone he can't be without, wanting to hold on to her every second. The very thought of losing her formed a tumor that clings to his chest, making him ache, bringing his mind into unwanted pain.
Could it be that partially what he had done was self-sabotage, to lose that very feeling, just a selective blind spot he did not choose to see, for the sake of destroying his weakness. Because he knew very well if he had lost her he would just be a empty void, hollow inside, with fleeing dreams, dead hopes, and life would just pass with each season, while he exist with no reason. Though he could no longer detain himself from believing that it would be worth it.
“I don’t want you to go. I don’t care if they’re sending me to Hell but I can’t leave you now. I can hold you, there, I can feel your heart beat beneath my fingers. How can they take me away from that? I need you. More than anything.”
As if he couldn't believe what he heard, he placed his hands along her neck and jawline, centering her to face him. Her eyes no longer distant, for they were one of the most honest browns he had ever laid eyes on. "So come with me. For not even the nine circles of hell can keep you away from me, Mia," he stated as if it were a fact. Her skin, so fair and almost glowing in the dimly lit room. To her naked lips, leaving him with an ache to capture them in his own.
Do you wanna - The Kooks
Brooke, Crystal, Cloud, & Fornax
I would have to say we look dapper.
The ladies will be quite smitten when they take a gander.
Well it took you both long enough, you guys know I hate it down here.
Cloud one more word about your outfit and I’ll make you choke on afterbirth. You look great, okay?
By the way this is Brooke. {gestures to Brooke}
Brooke this is Clo-Ca-I don’t even know anymore. {gestures to Cloud}
And this is {makes barfing noise} F-Fornax. {gestures to Fornax}
My, my. What’s the occasion?
I’m Brooke, like Crystal said.
{looks at Crystal thoughtfully} As long as it's your afterbirth. {chuckles softly and turns to Brooke} Were going down east, where unnecessary opulence resides, to a party.
We'd invite you but it's invitation only.
Brooke, Crystal, Cloud, & Fornax
It doesn’t really seem like anyone belongs here. I’m Brooke, it’s a pleasure to meet you.
The Undergrounds? What goes on down here?
Trust me, honey. Some people belong in this wretched place. Names Crystal.
I sure as hell wouldn’t know.
-Enteres from stage left along with Fornax- Hey, Crystal. Hope we didn't keep you waiting.
Would you say I look fedorable? But really, do I have to wear this thing?
Is someone out there?
I’m not a kid, Cal. I’m not insane either, but I refuse to abandon her.
I’m Lillie.
Wait…So, you’re not fourteen?
Well, Lillie what's so special about Evie? I know you guys are friends and all, but it seems like your complete opposites.
What Are Friends For? || Clover & Mia & Cloud
There was raw pain in his voice and it shocked Mia to realise it hurt to her very core to hear him like that. Whatever she told herself, or tried to, hearing him in any sort of pain tore her up worse than any knife ever could. He paced in front of her and she watched him, trying to understand the torrent of jumbled sentences that came from him. One minute sorrowful, the next angry. He was a mess. She was a mess. They were either very, very right for each other or very, very wrong.
He wanted her to say something but she had no idea what. She sensed that he wanted to hear the ‘right’ answer but she couldn’t give it because she barely understood the question. What was he talking about?
She did understand one thing, though. The self anger in his voice. The absolute, unstoppable anger at yourself. She held her wrists out to him. “I fucked up too,” she admitted softly, a surrender the only way she knew how. She couldn’t say sorry for it, she wouldn’t, but she could admit that she fucked up.
She wanted him to stop pacing angrily like he was being chased, and to sit down next to her and explain what it was that caused that awful pain in his voice. She tried to take a deep breath and push her hair from her eyes. “Why did you leave, Clo-Cal? Why did you leave, what have you done wrong, why are you in trouble and why won’t you let me call you Cloud anymore?”
Clover saw Mia lean into him, she watched him carry her away. Everything she had was gone, Mia was under a love spell, like a proper Juliet. That boy could have killed Clover, just as Romeo killed Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, and it wouldn’t have mattered. Mia was too far gone. Clover sat back down on the bed as “Cloud” walked away with Mia curled up in his arms. She shook her head and fought back tears, her throat tight. “This isn’t happening. It can’t,” she whispered.
Before Clover knew it, she was running down dark tunnels, screaming and weeping. “I can scream and scream! But it doesn’t matter does it? None of it matters! No one can hear! No one is listening! Hahaha! I’m screaming, and nobody fucking cares!” she jumped on the last part, and didn’t bother to use her feet to catch herself. She was hurled back down to earth, on the concrete floor. Her shins were scraped, as well as her elbows, but she didn’t care. She just curled up and cried, hard. Clover never cried like this, but no one was listening. No one cared, so she cried and cried and cried.
Cal didn't even think there was a right answer to the barrage of sentences he assembled. To be honest he just wanted to hear her voice, he thought it may calm him down, or the very least compel him to cease his blather, and listen to Mia. Everything just felt like it was falling apart, and all his emotions were starting to hit him like a ton of bricks, it was odd to him they were only starting to expose themselves at the very moment. The past few days he felt like a robot just desensitized to everything, but he could sense that he was back to normal, maybe that little hiatus did some good.
“I fucked up too,”
He looked down at her wrist, little blotches of red seeped through her bandages. His head was telling him, "You were only gone for a couple days, it was her choice, you couldn't do anything about it, you had to leave." But a wave of guilt hit him like a tornado anyways, twisting knots in his stomach. He hated how she made him feel, whenever she did this to herself, it always felt like it was his fault, even if it wasn't. He should be angry with her, but he just couldn't bring himself to.
“Why did you leave, Clo-Cal? Why did you leave, what have you done wrong, why are you in trouble and why won’t you let me call you Cloud anymore?
"I told you, Mia. I was the one who burned down the Casanovas' base. Sky found out before I could leave town. You can call me anything you want, okay?" He moved to her, gaze never wavering or breaking. His hand softly grazing hers, sending tingles all through his fingertips and finally to his heart, beating so hard that it felt like there were no gaps in-between.
"Remember the last place we met? Thats where i'll be staying." He pulled her to her feet, with almost no force at all. They were only objects of a greater force being pulled into each other by an invisible magnetic field. "I'll advice you to come with me, I'm certain the Casanovas will use you for leverage, but it's your choice. I need to keep moving, I'll be back later to see if Fornax is back." He laced his fingers with hers. His other hand barely touching her skin as he brushed her hair away. Breathing was no longer a priority for life, for the simplest of touches would drift him farther into the intoxicating clutches of a dream. A dream no mortal could possibly fabricate had they not been a part of. His eyes flickered with so many unreadable emotion. But they weren’t meant to be understood, like a vast ocean of blues. His thumb caressed her cheek, a touch he did not realize he was craving for. He leaned in closer, their faces so close yet so far.
He wished to kiss her, to put an end to the blissful suffering. He couldn’t breath anymore, his heart was deafening him. He needed her. And it frightened him, needing someone’s touch like that. He leaned towards her, pressing his lips against her forehead, a sense of desperateness pouring out. The same lingering thought of that one night nagged at the back of his head. I want you.
Is someone out there?
Evie is my friend. She’s been my friend for as long as I can remember, since I arrived at the orphanage.
It’s always nice to know who you are talking to. You’re very quizzical, aren’t you?
So if Evie jumped off a bridge would you follow her too?
Just trying to get to know you, kid. I go by numerous names, but call me Cal.

What Are Friends For? || Clover & Mia & Cloud
It was overwhelming instinct to simply relax into Cloud’s arms and let him carry her wherever he wanted to go. This was where she’d wanted to be for so long but not like this. She could tell he was angry, probably with her, and she’d vaguely heard he and Clover arguing.
This wasn’t the situation she had wanted to be in. He wasn’t supposed to be back. Clover wasn’t supposed to care enough to stop her killing herself. Why did everyone only show up in her life at the worst possible times? They were being very inconvenient.
She rested her head against Cloud’s shoulder and inhaled his familiar scent which she had almost forgotten. She hadn’t realised that the aching hollow in her stomach these last few weeks had been because of him, or the lack of him rather. She hadn’t realised how much he had become a part of her. She wondered if she had become a part of him. “Cloud, why are you back?” she asked quietly, not looking up to meet his eyes. “Why are you here? Now?”
Cloud went on and carried Mia to the Underground’s eating quarters, just a few steps from the girls dorms. Though completely functional, their kitchen must of been the loneliest room in the base. The sink was filled with dirty dishes begging to be washed, the cabinets were made from scrap wood, and filled with drab, chipped bowls and plates. He went on and placed Mia on top of the wooden table, his eyes transfixed on her. Look at those pouty lips, those moist eyes. How could you make her cry like that?
“Cloud, why are you back? Why are you here? Now?”
He paces away from her, and shakes his head when he feels a lump in his throat. He blew it and he knew it, everything was messed up, and it was difficult for him to admit it. He lost his best friend, and now his love ones were in grave danger. As soon as the Casanovas find out he was back, they would be after Mia too. He covers his mouth as he nods slowly, trying his best to contain his emotions before turning back to her. “I fucked up, Mia. I fucked up real bad.”
“I would have taken you with me,” he told her, “but I never wanted to drag you into this.” He went on to explain how he was the one who burned down the Casanovas Base, and how Sky found out just before he was going to leave the city, along with how the Casanovas almost killed his brother in his hometown, and how he was thinking about turning himself in. “I can’t have you like this, Mia. Please.. How could I save you when I can’t even save myself. It’s only a matter of time before I fall apart too.”
He needed someone who was strong, it was one of the reasons why he sought solace with Bones, but emotionally she was weak, and he saw right through it. She was scared to put it all out there, unwilling to get hurt, not like Mia. “Don’t you ever fucking call me Cloud again my name is Cal.” He despised that name now and was starting to get sick of her shit to be honest, when was his turn to cry on her shoulders? “Mia, say something.”
Is someone out there?
I’ve got no where else to go. And Evie is down here.
Who are you, anyways?
So what if Evies here?
Would it matter if I told you who I am?

The city freeze before
I just realized I don’t like you
Me and my girl
Are going out for some air
And I will do my best
Just to get under her dress
And catch you out if I can
On the other side of my sofa
Won’t you come on over
At the side of my sofa
Oh won’t you come on over
The city heated it up
It got blurry cause I’d had enough
And he tried to take your soul
But didn’t realize you keep it in a different hole
Is someone out there?
Please, just don’t hurt me.
Always this cynical, I take it?
