Battat was spying on Spamton’s side of the conversations with the benefactor. The benefactor seems to have not been bothered by this. Either the benefactor threatened Spamton, explicitly or otherwise, or Battat concluded he was at risk simply by Spamton’s reactions or body language.
Spamton must have initially brought up the contract for approval which was denied by the benefactor but did it anyway. Battat warned Tenna that the contract would put him at risk.
Spamton had to have really loved, trusted and felt safe around Tenna to sign in spite of this. This also contributes to his feelings of betrayal after the fact as Tenna had to have known he was putting his partner at risk for his own benefit. They may have even discussed it in advance.
Tenna really wanted to be Big Shots together with Spamton.
According to the Japanese localization, Spamton only grew pale after answering the phone when he agreed to sign the contract. He also told Tenna to wait for him. Even he did not know exactly what the consequences entailed.
Battat and Tenna likely concluded that Spamton was under threat of some organized crime syndicate or something similar. Maybe it would be more mundane consequences with just losing sales or contacts that made him big. Logically, neither of them would have had any way of knowing that Spamton was threatened by the outright supernatural.
Tenna thought he could insulate Spamton from the consequences with his own power and resources. As a Dark World Ruler, he could protect him. He blames Spamton for “ripping him off” in denial to cope with his partner running away.
According to Tenna, Battat Mike seemed to have either liked Spamton or at minimum cared enough for his wellbeing. Tenna’s employees seem to know that their boss is temperamental and self-centered, yet they trust that he can be well-meaning in places where it matters.
The TV World Darkners do not fear Tenna. Not like the Card Kingdom when the Spade King took over. Tenna doesn’t trap his employees in capsules. He is just a control freak who doesn’t listen to most of them. Hence why Battat and co. need their Mike personas.
It remains unclear whether Tenna was always temperamental and desperate or if these behaviours developed after Spamton left + the Dreemurr and Holiday families had begun to split apart.
Tenna’s contracts suck and he really dislikes all Pippins including the green Pippin, Battat. He threatens to tighten Battat’s contract. But given that the worst Tenna does to the Pippins who do gambling and black market exchanges in front of him is scold them. I imagine his threats are often either ineffectual or mutable due to his short memory or desire to keep up his positive and friendly image.
ok so this is based off of ⏃ post ⟟ remembered seeing like 2 years ago in the chapter 2 era of the deltatimeline BUT
the general summary of that post is, for all characters who dont have canon voicelines, people would tend to all unanimously agree on one voice as the 'canon (fanon ?)' voice (etc most characters residing in home town as well as many popular characters like ralsei, berdley, all that)
but with characters who DO have some canon voicelines (tenna, mettaton, spamton, jevil, ⟟ believe rouxls and tasque manager also fall into this category) the fandom just.... cant decide on ⏃ voice ????
their voices are RIGHT there in the game, and ⟟ unironically think tenna got hit with this curse the hardest because despite having an entire VIDEO of his voice to reference, people just all have unique takes on his voice
not that its bad (⟟ think) but its ⏃ funny coincidence and even funnier that the new chapters just proved this to be even more correct ???? someone build off of this PLEASE its so interesting
I have a theory about Tenna's relationship with the real Mike and the impostor Mikes.
I'd like to start with his relationship with the real Mike. For this, I'm assuming that the realistic microphone is actually him.
Now, Battat says that Mike has "never been here", but if the realistic microphone is the real Mike, we know for a fact this statement is not true. He does temporarily appear in the hallway if you wait a little:
But perhaps he's selective and doesn't appear to everyone.
It's very much possible, and I'd even say likely, that Tenna has seen him before. I think Tenna does know the real Mike.
The other guy is most likely Spamton. He still talks fondly about Mike, and one of his Sweepstakes answers seems to imply that he knows the real Mike and not the impostors.
As of now, we have no indication that Mike can talk (though he may be able to communicate through actions), but he can definitely listen to people, and in my other analysis posts I've talked about how both Tenna and Spamton value having someone that listens to them talk, specifically in the context of interpersonal relationships (and not as a performer on stage/screen). Mike probably did that for both of them, and was one of the few people to do so, leading both of them to feel attached to him. If his behavior changed following Spamton's disappearance, this would suggest that he felt some sort of attachment to Spamton too and was upset by his absence.
Back to Small Mike's quote, I think Mike "acting different" may be that he stopped appearing when Tenna visited him. Tenna knows that Mike is still around, because Mike still follows at least some of his commands, but he doesn't get to see him physically anymore.
Battat says that some of the time, whatever Tenna asks Mike for "just sorta happens" - this is when the real Mike does it. Sometimes, the impostor Mikes do it secretly, and Tenna may or may not think that's Mike doing it (depending on the situation). But sometimes, Tenna has to do it himself. Perhaps Mike used to follow Tenna's commands more frequently, but then started doing it less, and that was another change in behavior.
This led to Tenna feeling abandoned and taking it out on his staff. The impostor trio (more specifically, just one of them at first) decided to try pretending to be Mike and see if that helps. And, surprisingly, it worked. Tenna calmed down. Battat even acknowledges that it's weird that this worked. He thinks it's because Tenna actually believes the impostors to be the real Mike.
But I have a different theory: what if it's actually the exact opposite?
My theory is that the thing that calmed him down wasn't the belief that this is the real Mike, but rather the knowledge that someone on his staff went through all this effort to put on a costume and play a whole character just to make him feel better.
Tenna has severe abandonment issues, and in my previous analysis post I mentioned how the impostor Mikes play the role of caregivers to him. Small Mike mentions tucking Tenna into bed and such. I've seen some people misinterpret the impostor Mikes and their role as caregivers to Tenna as something that was already happening back during the big shot era, but the way it's described clearly suggests that it started happening later, after all the abandonment Tenna experienced (Spamton's disappearance, the Lightners no longer using him, and seemingly Mike becoming more distant).
To return to Tenna's relationship with the impostor Mikes, I think he not only knows that they aren't the real Mike, but also knows who plays the fake Mikes.
And when he first saw them putting on the costumes and pretending to be Mike, it made him feel cared for, so he latched onto the trio as some kind of caregivers and expects them to continue their performance, so he can continue to feel cared for. Which is why, when he can't find any of the fake Mikes - or, perhaps, sees that none of the trio are in costume when he expects one of them to be - this leads him to feel emotionally abandoned, so he gets moody.
TL;DR: The impostor trio assumes that Tenna believes they're the real Mike, but he knows they're not, and this is precisely what calms him down and reassures him - the knowledge that they're putting on this elaborate performance just to make him feel better.

I'm a theorist and this is not my first post abt games, so don't be surprised!
I would HIGHLY recommend reading everything I have written here, and I would REALLY like people to finally pay attention to it, because I SEE Tenna being made out to be an innocent, sweet fool, even though he is not (partly)

I keep asking myself: what's wrong with Tenna? why is he SO creepy? I don't have an answer to this question, but I have collected

If deltarune was a game in which breaking the 4th wall was just a convention, I would laugh at it and not even pay attention

but deltarune is a game about breaking the 4th wall, it's a game about the player, about their influence on this world, and Toby Fox doesn't do something for nothing.
and so. WHAT our great TV do?
⭐ he says to press the buttons (why does everyone react with shock when Ralsei does it, but no one notices when Tenna does it?)
⭐ stops time and everyone in the frame (you can literally see it)
⭐ rewinds time (if you fail/die)
⭐ teleports everyone and everything within the screen
⭐ he looks at the screen during the battle
but maybe he just tilting his head! I dunno, this guy doesn't have eyes! but I don't trust him anymore!
⭐ he looks at the screen (or is he looking at the camera?)))
⭐ maybe he knows about the existence of the screen, cuz Tenna's the lord of the screens
⭐ Tenna reacts on a changes on the command line (link)
⭐ he doesn't know anything about code or computers, but he changes the levels as he pleases (the battle with him is literally proof of this, he teleports and changes the rules as he please)
⭐ only TENNA'S part of the game changes the patterns that others chapters follow (link) (there are no three locations, an obscure secret boss and more)

it's very difficult to do on the deltarune engine, I dont know HOW it was done, but spending so much effort on a minor thing? I don't think so...

⭐ haven't you noticed? Tenna is second in strength only to Knight and Gerson (only BOTH are obviously Lightners.)
he DOESN'T have a crystal, but he's VERY strong and he's NOT fighting us at full strength

⭐after all these facts, the fact that he's 3D is alarming... duhhhh
⭐ Tenna also has a full-fledged voice acting and he is the only one who has it so far (the others had only sounds, but not the whole voice with sentences)
⭐ also I'll just say about Tenna's character that I noticed: he has a god complex (😏), he hits children with lightning, he shoots children with a gun (WE do "bonk" with our soul, and he SHOOTS US, WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM DUDE), he's a terrible boss who DOESN'T care about his employees, he lived his whole life in wealth and fame, he delusional, he is blind (HA) and silly, and therefore doesnt understand what is happening around him and does not understand the problems of others
but let's end on a good note.

very emotional and impulsive...
he's still very kind and sweet, he's a good dad (guys, he even took care of Lancer🥺), I'll hope that his thoughts are mostly innocent and pure

but he still knows and does a lot, it's just that it's so commonplace for him that he doesn't attach importance to it

deltarune is a complicated and adult game where the angel looks like a garbage rat and the devil wears a costume and can still be very sweet
