The lore is he cut off his head and used fae magic to create his new body- except, wuh-oh, the fae tricked him, it was actually an ancient forbidden magic, his TV head and body is the curse he was bestowed with and he accidentally released an eldritch beast into the world (a la the demonic goop) that's killed many of adventuring parties and now he has to figure a way to contain and seal it for good.

Except he mostly travels with WPNZ and Toomp doing crimes and bugging the SMG4 crew and they all have a merry good old time.

Okay so I’m officially going with Sloan being locked in the dungeon by the dark triad and that’s how he met Nacht bla bla bla

I feel like sloan hates pitch darkness because I bet that was what it mostly looked like while he was locked up.

He does NOT like having his wings restrained, his wrists are fine because they probably kept him weak enough to eliminate the need to tie them. I did draw the restraints they put on his wings a while ago so there is that. I guess the feeling would remind him of being there.

Sloan HATES the sound of human screams. The dark triad are so vile I wouldnt put torturing past them.

I imagine being cold can sometimes be triggering, maybe not that much but if combined with a few other things.

<3 Oh I think when he and Nacht first saw each other was when they caught each other peaking under the door. On different sides of the door, obviously. (In my mind the cells don’t have bars but they have these thick wooden doors with metal on them or something)

I think he would have been topless the whole time because I doubt they would have bothered to give him something that would accommodate his wings. (And sloan got no top surgery so this would be a NIGHTMARE. If I was forced to be topless ANYWHERE I should legitimately cry)

So because of that I think he was mistaken for a woman a lot, not that I think the guards would correct themselves even.

Accusations

this is...idk what. it's emotional chris and buck. angst with a hopeful ending. stemming from a chat on discord like usual.

After getting sober, clearing his head from the traitorous slog of sadness that’s been weighing him down, Buck starts to notice things.

It’s not obvious – not at first – but the signs are there a lot longer than he wants to admit.

He’s been back at work for a few months, been going to meetings regularly and talking to Bobby’s ghost whenever he’s struggling. The 118 has been at his side through it all – in the wake of his admission, through the pain of withdrawal and everything that came after.

Therapy, firefighting being at risk, losing Kameron and Connor.

He doesn’t see it, not really, until he’s a little more settled. He’s been working with Deidre on a plan to foster Theo, hosting Bachelor nights with the Grants again, talking with Ravi about investing in real estate.

Everything’s coming up Buck. Or so it seems.

“Movie night? Chris wants to try this new pizza place – something about a macaroni and cheese pizza he saw online,” Eddie says, lacing up his boots after shift on a Friday afternoon.

“Sure,” Buck says easily. “I heard about it too – Chim mentioned they tried to make a pizza like that last week.”

Eddie chuckles, “And?”

“Didn’t go so well,” Chim says as the door swings shut behind him. Buck laughs, grabbing his bag and slinging it over his shoulder on his way out the door.

“I’ll text,” Buck says, pointing at Eddie. Eddie nods and the familiar hum of the firehouse closes softly at his back when he winds his way through the parking lot.

Traffic’s like it always is, and Buck makes it through the end of a podcast about dead internet theory right when his house comes into view. It doesn’t leave much time to shower and change before he’s off again, headed to the Diaz house.

He doesn’t ring the bell, just knocks when he opens the door like he always does, and the sight that greets him is a common one. Eddie’s in the kitchen, Buck can tell he’s on the phone with someone, so he sticks to the living room.

Chris is there when he comes in, curled into the corner of the couch with his own phone, blanket draped over his lap, and Buck can’t help the smile that finds his cheeks.

“Chris,” he says easily. “Heard you have a hankerin’ for mac and cheese pizza?”

Chris just nods, barely glancing at Buck, and his stomach tightens. Usually, Chris is eager to see him, excited about movies and dinner together, teasing him for his preference for thin crust over stuffed. Now, though, he’s anything but.

“What movie we gonna watch?” Buck asks, sinking into the other end of the couch and toeing off his sneakers. Eddie’s house is his second home, as familiar as Maddie and Chim’s, the steady rhythm of the whining fan from the corner vent a melody he knows all too well.

Right now, though, he feels a distance he hasn’t before. One that leaves a wake of something awful on his tongue.

Chris only shrugs, still scrolling through his phone.

“School going okay?” Buck tries again, leaning forward to catch Chris’ gaze. It doesn’t land, leaves him more unsteady than he was a moment before.

Chris nods, “Yeah. Fine.”

Buck swallows, drags his palms down his thighs, cold sweat leaving a growing chill behind.

“Are you–”

He doesn’t get a chance to finish, Eddie barging into the room rolling his eyes, already ranting about his parents and a trip to Texas he’s had planned for the last two months. Chris takes the chance, gathers his crutches before shoving off the couch and heading into his room.

“Not hungry,” he mumbles before the door slams behind him.

Eddie furrows his brow and Buck wishes he had an explanation, but nothing comes to mind. He hasn’t been around as much, sure, but they’ve still seen one another recently…at least in the last…there was the time he…

It’s been a while.

“What’s up with him?” Eddie asks, collapsing into the spot Chris just vacated.

“I, uh, was gonna ask you th-the same question,” Buck says, a knot growing in his chest. Chris isn’t a kid anymore, and he’s been through some terrible things. The last thing Buck wants is a growing distance between them as he gets older.

He wants Chris to feel like he can rely on him. That Buck will always be there, no matter what.

Thinking about what they’ve been through only serves to tighten the knot – the tsunami, Shannon, Eddie being shot, losing Bobby, Eddie being stabbed. The kid’s had a rough go of it.

“Teenagers,” Eddie dismisses with a wave as he pulls out his phone and scrolls. “What kind of pizza we wanna do?”

It’s gone as easy as it started, the worry clinging to Buck’s gut.

By the time the pizza arrives, Chris is in better spirits, like being in his room flipped a switch. Or maybe he’s just got Eddie’s hangry gene and all it took was a little marinara and cheddar to get him back on track.

Either way, Buck feels better, hangs onto the idea that this is the same kid he’s known all along. That Eddie’s right and his emotions are just a game of whack-a-mole as he swings through his teenage years.

That is, until they want to start the movie.

Chris bails like he did before, slinking off into his room with his head low, irritation growing in his words the more Buck tries to latch onto any dregs of conversation. Topics they’ve usually delved into – space, plants, the new zebra born at the L.A. Zoo – nothing sticks.

There’s a hint of something, a flash of the relationship before, in a flickering smile Buck gets at the end of a poorly timed joke. But the rest of the night it’s dead air.

Eddie’s unfazed by the whole thing, says with the end of the school year Chris has been studying more for his finals. He’s got friends he’s talking to, video games that capture his attention longer than Eddie can.

It shouldn’t bother Buck so much.

He’s like any other teenager.

That’s what Buck keeps telling himself.

They make more plans under the guise of Buck wanting tips on parenting to improve his foster application and ensure he’s prepared for the possibility of Theo. Buck tries again, keeps conversation flowing through relationships and science experiments and music Chris has gotten into recently.

Like a brick wall, Chris is resistant. It’s as worrying as it is infuriating and Buck can’t help but think something bigger is going on.

When he ends up hanging out with Chris when Eddie has to cover for someone on B-shift, Buck can feel the weight of everything.

The irritation, the mood swings, the loss of interest in things they used to love – together.

It all paints a picture of something dark. Worry follows him inside like it always does when he comes into the Diaz house these days, jaw tight with tension, shoulders heavy with the fear of something lurking behind every corner.

He doesn’t claim to know everything, but he knows this kid. Has since he was seven years old on the tail end of a shift from hell.

When the dam breaks it’s not with a quiet crack, but with a roar.

“Chris, can you come out here?” he knocks on the bedroom door he sees more often than the kid behind it now.

“What?” the irritated voice slings back at him through plywood and distance that feels like miles, stretching further and further over the last few months.

“C-Can we talk?” Buck asks, shoving down the fear that’s been hanging in his throat since that movie night.

The door flings open and Chris shuffles into the living room, shoulders heavy, gaze lost behind a wall Buck wishes he could break through.

They’re back on the couch, sitting on opposite ends with nothing but silence between them.

Buck breaks first, clasping his hands together to keep them from shaking.

“I’m worried about you,” Buck starts, cataloguing his fears, lining up his worries to present in the court of Christopher Diaz.

The thought nearly bowls him over, the one that considers he might be right. That Chris has been isolating, and irritated, and hiding from him and Eddie in all the worst ways.

Chris scoffs, arms wrapping around his middle like he’s hiding from the accusation.

“That’s a good one,” Chris murmurs. “Why?”

“You’ve been…distant,” Buck says, voice tight. “It seems like every time I’m here, you’re in your room–”

“Didn’t know that wasn’t allowed,” Chris says, shoving back into the cushion like he’s trying to escape the conversation.

“Of course it’s allowed,” Buck rushes to say. “I-It’s not that… I just – I know you’ve been through a lot.”

Chris laughs, empty and tight, only serving to heighten Buck’s worry.

“A-And, look, I get it. Hiding from it is only gonna make it worse,” Buck says, shifting closer. Chris doesn’t budge. Doesn’t look at him. “It’s not worth it. Drinking o-or smoking…or anything…it’s just gonna help for a little while, but–”

Chris’ neck snaps, his eyes finding Buck’s in an instant. “You think I’m drinking?”

“I didn’t say that,” Buck replies. “I just…you’re not acting like yourself.”

“Just because you had a problem doesn’t mean the rest of us do,” Chris snarls.

The words sting. Not the words, themselves, but who they’re coming from. The truth behind them. The idea Buck’s making this all about himself, again.

“Okay,” Buck murmurs, biting his tongue even though everything in him wants to dismiss the accusation. Push back. Beg for forgiveness.

“What is it gonna be next?” Chris says, quieter this time. “You’re only really around when...forget it.”

“No,” Buck says, moving closer. “Only around when what? Tell me, Chris. I-I’m always here for you, remember?”

“You’re not,” Chris says, elbowing away from Buck’s touch. “It’s just when…you’re here when something bad happens. The tsunami, my dad getting hurt, his depression.”

When he looks up, his eyes are shining with tears. Buck’s heart aches with the growing helplessness he feels. Because Chris is right. He’s always there when the going gets tough, but they haven’t had time recently spent without turmoil.

A big part of that – all of it – is on Buck.

“That’s what’s going on? You’re worried something bad’s gonna happen?” Buck asks.

Chris only nods, then adds, “Not – not exactly but…are you okay?”

Buck can only nod and move closer still, pulling Chris into a hug. One that feels like it’s been years in the making, one that’s filled with the sorrow they’ve held together, the fear that’s been tucked between them so often. He can feel his shoulder getting damp, Chris’ tears falling silently.

“I’m sorry,” Buck says softly.

It’s all he can do, really. Apologize for the times he’s let Chris down. Let Eddie down. The 118. Tommy. Natalia. Taylor, Ali, Abby. His parents. The thought slices through him like a knife, jarring and determined.

The weight of what every injury, every horrible moment, every fresh wound carries. Dragging his family and friends through turbulence. Even if they come out clean on the other side, it leaves scars.

Ones that don’t heal overnight.

Sitting on the couch with Chris now, in the wake of everything he’s left in the traces of Chris’ childhood memories, Buck feels it.

It’s not the burden that matters, but the way it’s carried.

And with Buck in his corner, Chris will make it through. Because if one thing’s certain, it’s that they’ve battled much worse and made it out every time. All of them, together.

I listened to one too many Gaster songs and started rambling about what Entry 17

or for a more succinct title: Gaster Fountain (Crack) Theory

Entry 17 has always been a mystery in the Undertale fandom. The bizarre half-non-existent words of the missing Royal Scientist but a select few can even recall. The strangeness of its words prevailed in remaining a mystery for years after Undertale's release, and later Deltarune's own release, many a fanfic, theory and AU created to facilitate people's interpretations of it. That is, until today. No doubt most people reading this post can recall it word for word, but for those who don't let us recall its (translated) words for clarity's sake.

WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK

It was a starling realisation of mine when, earlier today, I was listening to one of the many remixes of Gaster's theme and realised something I had not seen or heard ever be brought up in any theory after the release of Deltarune.

In hindsight, much of the Entry is rather blatant foreshadowing of Deltarune. For it is a the sort of description you could expect a Dark Fountain to be given in a scientific context.

"But Nef," I hear you cry, "how is stating the obvious at all useful for theorising about the lore of Deltarune?" Well, caricature of a hypothetical reader whom exists solely to say that one sentence and will stop existing when I finish my own, you shall have your answer given in a question.

Why would the previous Royal Scientist from Undertale, who we know went missing after falling into his own creation, be describing a Dark Fountain from Deltarune?

The answer, should be clear now. We were wrong about which of his creations Dr Gaster fell into. Since it was attributed to him by the same follower whom told us of his mistake, we as a community (reasonably) assumed the CORE was the creation he fell into. However, in light (hah irony) of Entry 17 being clearly about a Fountain, a new option takes form. Dr W.D. Gaster disappeared without a trace, because he did not manage to escape his final experiment. An experiment into that which is darker than dark.

Likely whilst testing some device or another intended to break or circumvent the barrier, Dr Gaster inadvertently channelled enough of his will to accidentally open a Dark Fountain (perhaps it kept not working and he was at the "repeat the action harder until it works this time" stage of anger/annoyance, idk this is something for the fanfic writers to decide), as we know Monsters are capable of doing via Susie in Chapter 4. Being the scientist he was, he resolved to research his latest creation to find out if it could circumvent the barrier as intended or not.

However, unlike Castle Town and Chapter 5's Fountains, his Fountain did not have a designated exit. Or at least, not one he could find nor reach. The only way out required one to Seal the Fountain... but he was not able to.

As we have seen thus far in Deltarune, the act of Sealing a Fountain requires that your Soul be able to detach itself from itself from the body momentarily. An action only a Boss Monster could hope to manage in Undertale, with little guarantee to say it would survive long enough to finish the act. As a result, a standard monster would most assuredly be trapped forever, and, with enough time, become as much a fantasy as the world created by the Fountain. Only remembered by those who were close enough to have either been drawn into the Fountain as well, remnant echoes shifted after too much time in a dream, or perhaps so drawn to fantasy that they already blurred the lines themselves.

As with all things involving the nature of the Gaster Followers, that part remains unclear.

After so long trapped in a world such as the ones we know, likely reminiscent of Cyber World but more sciencey if I had to guess, would it be unusual to say one might grow to have some semblance of control over it? Especially if that world is as scientifically inclined as would be expected from being formed by such a Royal Scientist as Dr. Gaster. I certainly would think so, and I imagine Dess Knight theorists may also be inclined to agree given how long she would have been in her Fountain and the shapeshifting abilities of the Knight.

In a similar vein, is it not reasonable to assume that a realm born of Fantasies made manifest in Darkness would be connected to multiple worlds? Considering how this theory started out you can probably assume where I'm going with this. To put it simply, with enough time and capacity to manipulate the Darkness afforded by more time and practice, I believe it is reasonable to say one could form a door to a vast variety of places. After all, we have already seen this done on a smaller scale throughout each chapter of Deltarune, and some may have themselves also seen it in Undertale within a hallway that did not exist.

We do also already know that some of those linked to Gaster can travel (or at least see) other worlds via Clam Girl, which lends further credence to the possibility of the Doctor himself doing the same.

I will admit the title was a bit of a lie, after all, none of us have any hints as to who Gaster would've been asking the opinions of (my guess is actually Followers 1 & 3 since they talk like they were actually present when the experiment went wrong)

But with all but that last line of dialogue being related, I'd say I got close enough, and now I feel it is time to leave the rest of the theorising to the community. After all, it'd be rude to keep talking about someone who's listening.

TLDR; Gaster made a Dark Fountain, fell into it, and was unable to escape before eventually discovering its connection to the world of Deltarune
