A walk in the park || Theo + Natalie
Theo smirked at the shocked look on her face. Who wouldnt be shocked? He himself was still recovering from the shock. He ran a hand through his hair, making it look even more messier. He checked on his fish again. Something he seemed to be doing every 5 minutes or so. The question made him nervous. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to tell anyone who she was just yet. ” Well… I’m not sure if you know her.” he said, hoping that his voice sound too monotone like it usually did.
"She’s a good girl, ya know?" he said, as if for some strange reason, he wanted her approval. "Sometimes….. sometimes she drives me crazy, But a-a good crazy!" he rushed. "And she has these eyes…… they always light up when- oh! I-i’m talking too much aren’t I? he stammered.
Natalie didn't often see a lot of emotion in Theo, at least not outwardly expressed, and it was interesting to see him like this. He was maybe a little nervous, clearly still getting used to the feeling of having someone, having feelings for someone and having them returned. Natalie couldn't really remember having seen Theo interested in any girls, ever. She'd wondered if maybe Theodore and his brother just.. didn't like anyone. She wouldn't really be very surprised by that, certainly half as surprised as she was about Theo having a girlfriend.
"You're not talking too much." She smirked a little bit, intrigued by seeing him talk about someone like this. "You must really like her. Does she go to Mount Olympus High?" She was, as ever, very interested in finding out more. Natalie wanted to make sure that the girl was worth Theo's time, and it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on whoever it was.

How could he believe that he wondered as he tugged at his hair and hit his head a little harder against the wall, willing this all to go away. How could he believe that he didn’t make them all leave? How? When it happened so often. When his brothers moved away and his sister moved out and his parents left him stranded in that big house all alone. When they didn’t notice he was gone for weeks, when even Kat, the most protective over him vanished without any sign of leaving, without any mention or support, with nothing at all, all alone. How could he believe that when they were the only people in his life and they all left. It had to be him. It had to be something he did wrong. Otherwise it didn’t make any sense.
Natalie tried to cover it up, tried to make him feel better, but even as her words flowed through his ears he knew that it was only a matter of time before he drove her away too. He shook his head, letting out a whine as he said in a quiet, crackly voice, “You’d all be better off without me.”
And with that and a racing heart, he hung up the phone.
Natalie didn't have a chance to reply before the phone hung up, and she knew that she hadn't gotten through to him at all. She could hear it in his voice, a tone of misery that was so ingrained into him that he couldn't really be convinced otherwise, certainly not over his phone. So Natalie picked up her pace, reaching the building Kat's apartment was in, and she snuck in through the garage-- a place she had, not long ago, stumbled upon two men tied to chairs, one with a knife lodged in his leg. it wasn't something she planned on telling Pascal, but she knew that there was more going on with Kat than Pascal could understand, or should understand, and because he didn't know of all that his sister was doing, he was going to accept the blame for her disappearances onto himself.
she hurried quickly up through the building, using a spare key to let herself inside. "Pascal? Where are you?" She called out, walking into the apartment and closing the door behind her. She looked around, making her way further in, and she soon found a guitar lying on the floor against a wall, and it made her wonder what exactly was going on. She checked his bedroom, but couldn't find him there, she checked the kitchen and Kat's bedroom, and then headed for the bathroom, and there she found him, pretty much bloody from head to toe.
There was blood everywhere.
Why should I retract my claws for you? What do I earn from playing nice? I’ll choke on the cries I leave in my throat. I am not sorry. If I am angry, I will be angry. I will be blinding light I will be rage and shaky hands I will be venom and teary eyes I will not laugh at your jokes I will not tuck my fangs away to smile for you. I will look you dead in the eye and I will spit out teeth that are not mine.

When I took this job I hoped that I wouldn't have to deal with stupid people. I was wrong.

. As a child, Ellie had been warned by many an elder relative her about the dangers of judging books by their covers. As a hyperactive child of six, she’d originally interpreted that phrase in a very literal sense. That was probably the root cause of why she never picked up a book without reading it’s description, but now ten years later Ellie was beginning to understand the actual meaning of the ancient, albeit cliche, cautionary moral. Filing people away under a specific, yet still broad enough, generalization was dangerous, and very easy. Ellie had to admit, by her own assumption of Natalie, she thought her a kinder, passive sort of girl. Perhaps it was this assumption that made Ellie so shocked by this girl who reminded her so much of snow, of all things.
"Oh. Constellations are nice. Pretty,” she shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. Ellie wasn’t exactly afraid of Natalie, but rather puzzled by her. As another observer, Ellie knew she was noticing and watching different things then was. The younger girl noticed the way the elder’s eyes were almost darkened with knowledge and insight.
"I…like the day, better. It’s…comforting,” she confessed, feeling it strangely necessary thing to say. It was true, Ellie felt more comfortable in day lights, but the stars were something she admired greatly as well. Many nights had been spent in her lifetime staring up at them, telling herself their stories to still the suffocating darkness.
"I like the stories of the stars, though. My favorite is the one about the dragon,” Ellie said, the first thing she’d managed to say in an actual normal tone of voice. Whether or not Natalie was someone ear was uncertain at the time, but Ellie did not feel any sort of instinct to hide from her.
"Dragons.." She frowned, lost in thought for a long moment as she mulled that over. At the same time, though, she hadn't missed the fact that Ellie's voice had, for the first time, spoken in a normal tone, one that didn't tremor or stop and start or sound so weak that Natalie almost felt bad just talking to her. She wondered if maybe Ellie just had a hard time meeting people, or if it was this specific situation that resulted in her coming out of her shell, even if only in the smallest of ways.
"Draco?" She finally asked, her gaze moving from the younger girl to follow the few people milling around outside the planetarium that she could see. Something in her told her that not a lot of people were goin to visit their stall, but it wasn't something that deterred her from being here. Rather, it was an encouragement to be here.
"I always liked Scorpius, and the story that goes with that. There's this star in the heart of the constellation.. It starts with an A, I can't remember the exact name, but it's one of the brightest stars in the sun's path." She mused, glancing back to Ellie.
Natalie had always been interested in the night sky, and while she found the stars very interesting, her real interest was the darkness around them, although she knew it wasn't true darkness. Every inch of darkness was filled with stars the eyes couldn't see. She had always found that interesting, the complexity for the night sky, and the same was true for her and people. She'd always been intrigued by the diversity of people, everywhere. How different everyone could be. And if you didn't look hard enough, you might miss some of the most important parts of a person. And so she watched, seeing all that others missed, and that seemingly impossible knowledge of everyone and their secrets often earned her a creepy and eerie reputation.
"Do you think anyone is actually going to come here?" She asked after a few moments, snapping out of her own thoughts. "I have real doubts."

There’s nobody here. I bet you nobody will be here until five minutes before we have to go.
And they'll want to know the names of every single star.
New planetarium show lights up the dark
The latest planetarium show at the Hayden Planetarium, located in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, doesn’t focus on what we can see—the stars, planets, nebulae and moons known to amateur star gazers the world over. It shows what we can’t see, and it uses rigorous science in the form of computer simulations to do it.

When are we allowed to go on a break?
I'm not entirely sure. In an hour, I think. I hope.

Natalie Winchester. Ellie squinted up at the older girl, trying to find a trace of something familiar in her striking features. Even her voice seemed foreign. However, she was sure she’d heard that name somewhere on more wonted tongues. True to habit, Ellie took a minute, as she casually dusted off some equipment, to try and pinpoint the mirror sound of Natalie’s voice.
Ellie’s looked back up from their dutiful stare on her shoelaces to face Natalie through squinted eyes, as if the girl gave off sun that hurt to look at directly. In a way, she did. However, she was more like morning snow, muted and pallid, yet still shining intensely against a dull sky. The crease between her brows and the focused look on her face snapped back to a more neutral expression when Ellie realized she had been spoken to again.
"Oh! Sorry…um…um, my parents thought I’d—I mean, I…signed up. Sorry,” she murmured, clearing her throat mid-sentence. Ellie wasn’t quite sure what she was apologizing for, but it felt like it was needed. Patience for severe disquietude was a quality rarely found in the people Ellie knew. however, that number diminished with each passing day. Had it not been inappropriate for the conversation, Ellie probably would have face-palmed then.
"You? Oh, um, I mean, and you?” she corrected herself, a nervous half-smile ghosting on her lips. Lifting her eyelashes, Ellie allowed herself to look Natalie right in the eyes. She was nearly surprised to find the cool, clear look of an observant person there. It was like looking down a well, where clarity and translucent water veiled the surface, but a closer look revealed only a mist of darkness. This didn’t scare Ellie one bit. It intrigued her.
It was then Ellie decided. She sounds like rainfall.
Natalie found it impossibly strange that Ellie apologized so often, for things that didn't warrant apology, but it wasn't a trait she was unfamiliar with. She knew of people, like Pascal, inherently anxiety-ridden and always offering apologies for everything they did or didn't do. It wasn't a type she often associated with-- Pascal was a rarity in how close she was to him, and how protective and almost maternal she felt towards the nervous boy.
Ellie was alike in a lot of ways already, but different in just as many. And one difference was that Natalie didn't feel the instinct to protect her from anything, (further affirming in her mind that, yes, Pascal was an outlier, not the norm) but nor did she wish to see anything bad happen to the sophomore. She felt more or less... neutral. Although a part of her was eager to see what would happen if she was put in an unusual situation that she couldn't really handle, a passing curiosity at best.
"I signed up," She answered the returning question. She knew that she had to, and so she had chosen something that would interest her. The planetarium. Which would, hopefully, also prove to be a place that wouldn't be over-crowded often. She didn't want to talk to that many people while volunteering here.
"I like the stars," she went on to say, feeling a certain compulsion to fill some of the silence as Ellie stared at her like she was trying to work something out, trying to understand something, like she was trying to read Natalie. It wasn't something she was used to experiencing, really. It generally operated the other way around.
"I like all the constellations. And the darkness." She added.
