What We Know About Blackbeard & Co
I’m sure it’s not hard to figure out which rp blog(s) I run, especially since I do a lot of the same rambling here as I do there. A while ago, I made a three-part post explaining a controversial HC of mine about the nature of Ace’s & Teach’s relationship & how their interactions may have gone post Banaro Duel. In said post, i also included some theorizing I had about the connections between Teach’s characterization with irl Pirate King Henry Avery.
At the time, I went into how Teach does not resemble the real life Blackbeard in behavior, especially given Blackbeard’s revolt against an unjust political system that led him to piracy originally. What I mostly focused on was Teach’s behavior towards Jewelry Bonney for starters (x), & I think those risque screencaps are what got my post deleted– which has me really upset right now, because I put a lot of hard work into that post especially, which sources cited for Avery’s attack & occupation of the Ganj-i-Sawai (x) along with his & his crew’s brutal treatment of prisoners.
I’ll be frank. Teach is not a character I often familiarize myself with, until recently when I’ve been writing him more & more. I always strive for excellence in my characterization, & that involves knowing the character’s conception as well. I was not previously aware of Teach’s original concept until recently & I am very excited to present that (figure 1) above.
What we were originally going to get? エブリシング・D・ティーチ — Everything D. Teach, which is a nod to Henry Avery (sometimes spelled Every). This is fascinating to me, given Every’s role in the world & becoming The Real Life Pirate King. It has also been said that the original Blackbeard is Oda’s favorite historical pirate, so suffice to say that Teach was destined to be a driving force in One Piece, right from the start!

Teach’s ship is named the Saber of Xebec
Teach (age 40 & originally from the Grand Line) His favorite food is cherry pie (what a surprise) & kebabs! He also hase observation & armament haki.
Van Augur/Auger: (Age 27 & originally from the East Blue) His favorite food is Dark Hot Pot (like surprise Hot Pot). He’s the captain of the Third Ship in BB’s fleet, & his rifle is named Senriku.
Jesus Burgess: (age 29 & originally from the Grand Line) It lists his favorite food as protein??? So run wild with that. He also has observation & armament haki & is the captain of the First Ship in BB’s fleet! His role was a helmsman!
Lafitte: (Age 41 & originally from the West Blue) His favorite food is lollipops & he’s captain of the Fifth Ship in BB’s fleet. His role was navigator! It is also hinted that Lafitte’s wings may be from a devil fruit! He can also hypnotize ppl
Doc Q: (Age 28 & originally from the North Blue) The horse’s name is listed as Stringer here, but I’ve been led to believe that the horse is actually named Stronger. His favorite food is apples with no bombs inside (that’s important ofc), & he is captain of the 9th Ship in BB’s fleet.
Shiliew (age 44 & originally from the Grand Line) quickly rose through the ranks when Blackbeard became Yonko, being assigned as the captain of the second fleet. His blade is a Meito, called “Raiu” (雷雨, Thunderstorm) & he feared Magellan while in Impel Down. His favorite food is rare steak, which absolutely makes sense. I’m guessing he’s captain of the 2nd Ship??*
Catarina Devon (age 36 & originally from the South Blue) uses a whip as a weapon, but she used a spear to kill Whitebeard. She hunts for women she finds beautiful and decapitates their heads to add them to her collection. Because of that, the name “Crescent Moon Hunter” is feared by women throughout the whole world. Her favorite food is broiler sashimi. She is captain of the 6th Ship in BB’s fleet.
Sanjuan Wolf (age 99 & originally from the West Blue) is a giant from a certain giant village who became a pirate. He was imprisoned in an extra-large cell of Level 6 due to his crimes. There’s absolutely no doubt that his addition to the crew has heavily increased the power of the Blackbeard Pirates. More interestingly however, is that him being so large has been caused by a devil fruit that increases his size Through the powers of this Paramecia, he dwarfs even the likes of Oars and Wadatsumi. His favorite food is salt-grilled sea king! He’s captain of the 8th Ship in BB’s fleet.
Vasco Shot (age 38 & originally from the South Blue) was infamous even among level 6 prisoners due to just how brutal his actions were prior to being imprisoned. He’s a lot more dangerous than he seems at first. His favorite “food” is Shaoxing Wine! He is the captain of the 7th Ship in BB’s fleet.
Avalo Pizarro (age 42 & obvs from the North Blue) once ruled a kingdom in the North Blue, but he was dethroned by the citizens because his actions were far too cruel and twisted. He is incredibly tall, sharing a height with Katakuri. His favorite food is Shark Fin soup (what a tool). He is captain of the 4th Ship in BB’s fleet.
A/N: please do not support the eating of shark fin soup though. We’ve really gotta stop shark-finning as a practice entirely.
