The first time Ilia saw her, she was sitting on the edge of a bench skate park watching her friends. cool shoes tapping her foot lightly against the concrete to a song playing through her earbuds. Cool hair, ripped jeans, band tee, and a smile that was the prettiest thing he’d ever seen. She had a vibe about her.
She wasn’t what people expected him to be with.
And that was exactly why he couldn’t look away.
Their relationship didn’t look like the polished, picture perfect kind people imagined for a world champion. It was messy in the best way..late night fast food runs, scraped knees from her falling while he was teaching her to skate and skateboard, loud music, and laughter that echoed through empty parking lots.
As he taught her how to skateboard…it was a time.
“Bend your knees more,” he called, arms crossed, trying not to laugh as she wobbled.
“you iterally land quads, this is easy for you to say,” she shot back, clearly offended.
“And with that info you’d think to trust my coaching” he grinned.
She fell two seconds later.
She laughed so hard she had to stay down, and he staring down at her with a crooked smile, completely gone for her.
Concerts became their thing.
They’d stand shoulder to shoulder in crowded venues, her eyeliner smudged, his hoodie pulled low, both of them screaming lyrics into the air like nothing else existed. Sometimes she’d grab his hand and drag him closer to the stage, weaving through people like she belonged there.
Afterward, her voice always came out raspy.
“Worth it,” she’d say every time.
And he’d nod, brushing hair out of her face. “Definitely.”
Most days, she lived in ripped jeans, oversized band tees, and flannels tied around her waist. Or sweaters and sweats. Her style was effortless, grunge, a little chaotic, completely her.
Which is why the night she showed up to the door in a dress nearly made his brain short circuit.
It wasn’t over the top, just…different. Soft. Fitted. Her hair actually styled instead of thrown up, her makeup a little more precise than usual.
“…Hi,” she said, suddenly unsure, tugging at the hem. “Too much?”
He shook his head quickly. “No no, not at all. You just” He paused, searching for the right word. “You look…really pretty.”
Her cheeks warmed. “Pretty?”
He smiled softly. “Yeah. Really pretty.”
She rolled her eyes a little, but she couldn’t stop the smile that followed.
The date was simple. dinner, a walk, talking about everything and nothing. But he kept glancing at her across the table like he was trying to memorize the moment.
“What?” she asked at one point, narrowing her eyes playfully.
“Nothing,” he said, shaking his head. “Just…you.”
She kicked his foot under the table.
Later, when he dropped her off at home, the night had settled into something warm. She lingered by the car door, not quite ready to go in.
He leaned against the hood, hands in his pockets, watching her.
“Yeah,” he said. “Just thinking.”
He huffed a small laugh, then stepped a little closer to her.
“You looked beautiful tonight,” he said.
She smiled, a little shy. “Thanks.”
He hesitated for half a second before adding, “But…I prefer your regular style.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Oh yeah?”
He nodded, a small grin tugging at his lips. “Yeah. I love you like you are.”
There was a beat of silence.
Then she laughed warm, easy, completely herself.
“I love you more, just wanted to try something…different.”
He kissed her cheek and then smiled
“Different is good…but i like my chill girl”
She smiled putting her hair in a bun
