Insomnia was never a walk in the park. Erik knew that the moment he closed his eyes, memories would come flooding back. It was best to stay awake. He wouldn’t have a thing to worry about if he simply stayed awake. Tugging on his coat and tying his scarf tightly around his neck to ensure maximum warmth, Erik decided an early morning walk would be the next best thing. With a travel mug of coffee tucked safely into his coat pocket, Erik leisurely strolled through the park as the sun began to rise, finally taking the time to appreciate his surroundings.
After an hour or so of aimless walking, Erik settled on the first bench he laid eyes upon with a tired sigh. Whilst his body was young again, he was still seventy-nine at heart. Some things would always be tiring no matter what. Tugging his mug from his pocket, Erik took a sip before his attention was required elsewhere. “I’m sorry?” He asked with a frown, glancing over at the stranger. “I didn’t see your name etched into it, funnily enough.”
Her eyebrows knit together in confusion before looking a little taken back by his reply. People didn’t usually reply to in such a way. Raising a brow at the man she questioned him. “Since you don’t know my name how would you know if it was etched into the bench or not, and on that note, did you even look?” To be completely fair, her name wasn’t etched into the bench, and it probably never would be. She just wanted to make a point to this man. Why, was beyond her, but she couldn’t help herself. She supposed it was in her nature.
