Good morning ppl! Today we’re gonna look at some hidden details or some stuff you missed in the odyssey video by Mr.gameron! Along with some fun facts.
First! The bow and axes are historically accurate to the ones used in the homers odyssey. The bow is called an palintonos. Meaning it’s limbs curve in the opposite direction when unstrung. Fun fact: this bow was gifted to odysseus by his friend iphitus.
In the odyssey video at the end, this translates to “Ithaca, the father of the gods, the drinker of the gods.” “Neither man nor woman was myth, Odysseus Laertiades.”
Also fun fact: in the homers odyssey, Penelope tricks the suitors by promising to mary one of the suitors after she finishes weaving a burial shroud for her father-in-law, lawrtes. By day, she weaves on her massive loom. By night, she secretly unravels her work.
In the odyssey video in this screenshot, this shows what would’ve happened if they succeeded with their plan. (Thx to @stitchtastic2020 for pointing this out.)
In these screenshots, you can see the dog argos laying on the floor as the suitors are running. Sad fact: in the homers odyssey, argos was neglected after odysseus left for war. As odysseus as disguised as a begger, argos is the first to recognize him and soon dies due to old age.
In the second screenshot, you can see there are hanged ppl in the air, this is a reference to the severants and maids. Fun fact: melanthius has a sister named melantho and we’re both servants, melanthius was known to be the goat herd, as melantho was a maidservant who was raised by penelope. After Odysseus and Telemachus killed all of the suitors, all of the maidservants as well as melantho were forced to clean up after the massacre, after melantho and melanthius were killed for their betrayal. Melanthius hands, feet, and genitals were cut off to feed raw to dogs, leaving him to bleed out and die. As melantho was hanged to death.
