EPIC: The Musical— SUITORS HCs
Because I said I'd post them
A small note: Some of the names I picked for them technically belong to different characters in the Illiad/The Odyssey in general. BUT names repeat themselves all the time so it doesn't matter 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Let's get to it.
Melanthius
The lazy eyed bastard, a textbook manipulator. He's like the “second in command” of the group and operates more in the shadows, unlike Antinous, who did whatever he pulled out of his ass.
He's charming when he needs to be, but he's a damn snake. Rarely raises his voice, prefers to manipulate with suggestions and half truths. He's very good at convincing others.
I don't really have an explanation for his scars other than a hunting gone wrong, but I also imagined them being from a fight he couldn't win. One from his youth when he was louder and before he learned that it's safer to make others do the dirty job for you.
Eurymachus
He is more thoughtful and has moral conflicts, he's the most internally divided of the suitors. He can be kind and even feels guilty about what they planned to do to Penelope and Telemachus. But he can't go against the others because doing so would only put a target on his back. In that sense he is selfish, he'd much rather have others suffer that fate than putting himself in the line of fire for his values.
The poor guy tries to keep the peace almost all the time but just gets a “Stfu bitch 👹” without ever achieving anything.
Also I imagine him being— if not the youngest —one of the youngest in the group.
Amphinomus
Blondie with beard. He is more serious and strategic. He plans more carefully and quietly observes the group of animals he has to live with. He doesn't like chaos and usually fights/has discussions with Antinous and Ajax over coexistence issues. He's not “cruel” per se, but he's the type of guy who corrects your spelling mistakes and lectures you on why you're a dumbass.
He really dislikes uneducated people (looks down on them) and handles himself with manners and arrogance.
Sachlos
My favorite silly. He is the most playful and irresponsible, but also super confident. Loves making fun of stuff and would be the first to yell “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT 🗣️🗣️🗣️” when two people are just having a discussion.
I imagine him being really shocked whenever something bad happens to him because he swore that everything would work out for him as if by magic.
Hector
Blondie twink /silly. He's a coward and gets irritated easily. He's almost always nervous and responds badly to others to hide his fear and keep appearances. He sticks to the strongest ones and says yes to everything (the ultimate suck up), but he shits himself if anyone confronts him directly.
Terrible temper and zero courage. Picture him throwing a tomato and then running away at 200 miles per hour as if it hadn't been him.
Ajax
He's is the biggest and strongest of them all (this select group I have hcs of at least 🐀). He's smart but he uses his fists before his head. He's impatient with words, politics, etc, etc, and he thinks most problems can be solved with beatings.
Eurymachus and Amphinomus are the ones who annoy him the most because they prefer to stand back and talk like reasonable human beings before fighting. He's not cruel for fun, but he has no empathy for weakness and respects strength above everything else.
Pisander
Pisander always wants to play leader, he's the first to step up when decisions have to be made, but he almost always gets dismissed by the others because he's a bit uhh... stupid and easily out shadowed. He's very brave and very impulsive, acting on instinct rather than stopping to think first. He gets picked on quite a bit, though he never really gets the hint.
You could say he's also a bit of a suck up but it's more so to try and get people to follow his own plans/ideas. Never works. All his brainpower goes into putting up that ponytail.
THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT I HAVE FOR ALL OF EM 🐀
If there's any questions anyone has or comments on my interpretations please feel free to tell me! I wanna know GRRHRGR
I'm just totally mentally ill about these videos and this musical
If you could, how would you rate each suitor as in fighting skills from worst to best
Loved this request!! Cracking my knuckles
From worst to best, here we go...
8. Hector
He's the one who brags the most about his skills but is actually an absolute coward and has zero experience in battle. Terrible with any weapon.
7. Eurymachus
He's down here because he doesn't like confrontation. He will avoid fighting as much as possible but can stand his own pretty decently if need-be
6. Pisander
Not the best, but definitely not the worst. I feel like he gets pulled by his ponytail a lot which causes him to lose most of the time, but I imagine him being very fast so that's an advantage (mainly serves him to tackle/shove people)
5. Sachlos
He's not very heavy buttt has some nice armor (his helmet). Mainly uses the element of surprise, that helps him a lot by confusing his enemies and wrestling them to the ground. However, like I said, he's not very heavy— I mean we saw him being flailed around by a malnourished Odysseus... So yeah, that's not optimal
4. Amphinomus
Incredibly skilled with the sword, but not the best at hand in hand combat. That's pretty much his disadvantage, if you catch him without a weapon he'll focus on getting one first before engaging
3. Melanthius
I mean look at him... He's enduring, that much is obvious AJDJSKSJSA. Clearly a strong guy— sadly, Mr. I Can't See Shit has a bad depth perception. He tends to miss when he swings a weapon or throws a punch, but when he lands them they're no small deal
(Side note: I feel like he also has trouble with his articulations sometimes. The damaged wood gets stuck and he's always having to pop things back in place. That's not great when fighting...so yes, he gets top 3)
2. Antinous
Surprising number 2, BUT I HAVE MY REASONS...
Antinous is strong and relentless, if he wants to fight with you you can say goodbye to your teeth. His problem is his pride. He gets carried away easily and is confident that he'll always win, so if his opponent proves otherwise he'll get sloppy and blinded by rage.
Other than that: Don't wind him up
1. Ajax
This man is a TANK for me.
The tallest, broadest, most trained of them all. Brother could body slam anyone or throw them into the stratosphere if he wanted to. Knows how to use any weapon (and he will use them.)
Why doesn't he overthrow the others? He has no leadership skills. He's smart, but soldier smart. Doesn't really know how to manage the people.
But we're talking about fighting skills here, so Ajax takes the W for me. Congratulations sir.
BONUS:
If I were to include Astron in this, I'd put him between Sachlos and Amphinomus. He's stronger than Sachlos but he's sloppy with his fighting, p much just throws fists aimlessly, which sometimes works, but not against someone who actually knows how to fight.. If he had his bow it'd be a different story.
Do you have any headcannons on what melanthius and sachlos would be like if they were in a relationship?
Oh god those two. Yes.
- They're the type of couple that never say they're dating but it's blatantly obvious
- Melanthius isn't all that for physical touch. Sachlos understands this to a certain point but still always overdoes it and ends up on the ground after getting shoved off
- Sachlos throws apples at him all the time (iykyk)
- They'll always tag team, if they settle on something they will get it. It doesn't help that they're always together, basically an unstoppable force
- Sachlos is always flirty in front of people to annoy Melanthius
- Make out sessions are intense, messy and horrible to witness. Do not. Runaway. Save yourself
Overall I think they'd be kinda complex. Neither of them would ever fully give himself to the other since that'd mean the power dynamic is unbalanced, and we all know both would want the upper hand.
But if I ignore myself— which I always do— I'd say TOXIC YAOI KISS EACH OTHER 🗣️‼️🏳️🌈
Ok so, can we all agree that sachlos has an asthma laugh? (And that him and melanthius are 100% bffs)
YES YES YESSSS, ESPECIALLY THE BESTIES PART, they're so stupid PLUS they're always together
I made that pic for an insta post a while ago, they're literally so everything
Also on the subject of their duo, I hc Melanthius interrupts Sachlos every time he tries to speak. Sachlos just tries to say what he wanted to later but if he gets interrupted again he'll just drop it/forget what it was
