Yung Achroite

When I start to draw these things, I never know how much I am going to like them. Some I REALLY like, some I REALLY hate and I end up drawing them over. This one right here? I REALLY like. When I attempted my final drawing of the Abalone Pearl, I HATED it! It was so bad! I’m like, “NO!” So I drew a new one, and I LOVE it! So I felt I was on a roll, and drew this beauty in a short amount of time and I LOOOOVE it! I didn’t even have to sketch it first. One of my favorites so far (mind you I’m only on my 2nd stone out of a gagillon). Ok now let’s talk about Achroite...

AHEM!

Achroite is a colorless variety of tourmaline, not to be confused with Selenite. Some have a slight hint of color though. Achroite is a communication stone that brings clarity & inspiration. So you should wear some if you have to speak publicly, or have a serious talk with someone; it makes your words clear. It can also facilitate communication and contact with angels, ascended masters and spirit guides if you wanna get your Bruja on. Need some help reaching your goals? This right here is it! You know those times when you’re feeling stagnant? This helps in overcoming those feelings of being “stuck.” I think this would be a good stone for some you crazy indecisive artists that don’t know what to do with yourselves. Keep this around if you work in a high pressure environment such as sales, telemarketing, management or whatever, for you will be the most successful.

The Abalone Pearl

Annnnnd weere back...for real this time.

I haven’t made any art in over a year; because, you know, life. But it seems like no matter how much I try to forget about these things, I always end up coming back. This here is definitely like a bad relationship that’s good.

Even when I sit down with plans to create something different, I always end up making some kind of crystal illustration. I think I have to get these things out my system, for we have unfinished business. So my plan is to draw ALL the crystals from A to Z; starting with the Abalone Pearl.

The Abalone Pearl is what I call the Peace & Love Pearl. Very compassionate and gentle, this girl works through those tough emo times that us ladies can’t control especially. It soothes the nerves & calms you down. This would be a good thing to have around moon time; aka “that time of the month.” So to all my brothers out there, if yo girl is PMS’ing & trippin’ for no reason, just get some Abalone Pearl. Get a piece & put it on a necklace or bracelet or sumthin, be like, “Here’s a gift boo!” and maybe ol’ girl can calm tf down. This works for ladies too; girl if yo man is getting all Ralph Tresvant on you; you know, acting all sensitive, get that fool some Abalone Pearl. Y’all will both be cool.

Soooo I’ve been selected to slang some zines at the Art Zine Micro Fest in the Palm Springs Art Museum next month presented by the nice people at Joshua Tree Zine Fest. I am also participating in their interactive exhibit called the “Reading Wall” where my zines will be on display starting today, March 11 - April 30. I sent my “Neo Geo” zine that’s a collection of all my weird geometric style drawings and “My Darling Sketchbook” zine that’s an actual copy of one of my old sketchbooks, covered with homies’ stickers (Nuff respect to all my peeps who made the zine cover). I’m also working on a new crystal zine for the fest as well. See you next month Palm Springs! 🌴 Now who wants to come with me? 😄

SF Zine Fest 2017

Last week, I had the great opportunity to participate in the SF Zine Fest in San Francisco, CA. Earlier this year, I told myself I wanted to get into these zine fests that go down all over the city. I applied to the LBC Zine Fest, they was like, "Nah." I hit up OC Zine Fest & they said, "Nope!" and I didn't even bother with the LA Zine fest cuz they dissed me for two years straight. But good ol' SF showed ya girl some love and told me to come thru. I must say I was soooo not ready for it at all. I was so stressed out trying to finish everything before the fest and I still didn't finish my zines in time, and of course I was an hour late. But it sure didn't stop me from assembling my zines at my table. I even had my girl Jennie do a FedEx run for me to get more copies of my zine. Onlookers and fellow "zinesters" saw me putting my zines together with my bone folder & my long stapler and thought it was cool to see the process being done. I got there at 11:30 (I was supposed to be there at 10), and I finished putting together my zines around 3pm. I had my old "Neo Geo" zine that I made a few years back with new red gold & green covers, my new zine titled, "My Darling Sketchbook" and my crystal bb's made their debut in my "Pocket Full of Stones" zine. The homegirl Kristine owns a printing company called Flying Colors and she hooked up a few crystal buttons for me. I was tabled in between watercolor artist Lindsay Victoria Lee and the fine folks at Laserzine; who were the best neighbors. Lindsay gave me great tabling advice which I am definitely going to take heed when I participate in my next zine fest. I bumped into the homies from Influentza; who I met and sat next to during my very first zine fest in LA. I sold a few zines and a ton of buttons! Gonna get more made. It was a great getting out of LA for a minute, being in the fest, meeting fellow zinesters trade zines and build. I highly encourage all artists to get into the zine game. It's a great way to show your art, meet people & get out there. It's so easy and fun! I am looking forward to my next zine event already.

Here are some of the drawings I did for my first zine back in 2013. After I got the news that I was going to be in the zine event, I drew these drawings up at work, used the photocopier, stapled them at Kinkos and they were done just like that!
