The time has come to announce this weekend’s events! Since the overwhelming complaint on campus seems to be people refusing to interact with those outside of their immediate friend group, I decided to go ahead and pair everyone for this event, whether you signed up or not. This is an easy, fun thing that is meant to get everyone involved and talking. Please be kind and courteous, and show respect for your partner by showing up and participating. It’s simple, and not time consuming. 

For PART1  of the event, I have paired everyone on campus. This weekend, take an hour to sit down with your partner, and play an icebreaker, “get to know you” game. Come up with a list of 10 questions to ask, and ask them! I’ll be posting some suggestions tomorrow, you’re welcome to take one of the lists  provide, or you can make your own. Either way, ask your partner questions that encourage you to really get to know them! I chose not to go the “just talking” route, and add in the requirement/request of asking specific questions, so that nothing fizzles out and everyone gets the chance to speak with their partner. 

PART2 will come tomorrow afternoon, at the Unity Cookout! I’ll be hosting this in the courtyard, enjoying the warm weather they’re calling for. There will be games, snacks, a campfire, a BBQ, and all the fun things we love about a good cookout. However, at one point in the day, you will b e asked to talk about what you learned about your partner! If you have questions, let me know!

Being a greaser, Amelia wasn’t really used to people outside of her little clique wanting anything to do with her. So to have Darrean being so kind to her was so different it softened her and it saddened her a bit too. What had happened to her was vividly recalling itself as the other Switch spoke, imploring her to open up and let him in. As a greaser, opening up was not only soft, it was a means for other people to use that softness against you. “You ain’t like many other people, I reckon. Definitely none I’ve ever met.” Of all the things Amelia thought he was capable of, betraying her wasn’t one of them. She didn’t know him though, they were still new acquaintances as of a few weeks ago. At the same time, having Two-Bit there to protect her her whole life had made her a little naive too. Besides, this particular information could only hurt her if it got back to her family because then it would hurt them. “I cain’t say it’s a huge deal. I told ya as much. I just always had Two there to beat off the boyos and do whatever to keep things smooth for me. I didn’t really notice how much he did for me, I guess. He came here first, I spent some time in Tulsa without him and some of the people back home took advantage. On account’a Two not bein’ there to protect me. Ain’t much was physical, but you know how people get sometimes. The bad ones. You tell ‘em no and they go tellin’ the world ya said yes. Then everyone says ya said yes and then… you’re the town slut.” Deflecting and depersonalizing, the real nasty bits came out less like she was saying they happened and more like they tangibly could or did to other people. The hurt in her eyes and the silent few tears betrayed the attempt to smile through. 

Looking down at the woman in front of him, Darrean found himself wanting to reach for her, to offer more comfort in any way he could. He lifted his hand slowly to brush his knuckles over her cheek. “I take that as a really high complient Amelia. That’s the truth. I wouldn’t want to be like everyone else. I just want to be like me. I get insecure sometimes, but at the end of the day I wouldn’t want to be anyone else. If I was, you might not like my cuddles so much. Wouldn’t that just be a shame?” Winking, Darrean pasued to flip his hand and press his palm to Amelia’s cheek. While Amelia spoke he listened, but his expression seemed to darken with every word. He shook his head slowly while realization dawned on him, and when he saw her tears he couldn’t stop himself from dropping his hand to pull her closer- as close as he possibly could. Wrapping Amelia in his arms, Darrean held her close, pressing his cheek to the side of her head. “Shhh. It’s okay. You don’t have to say anymore if you don’t want to, Amelia. I understand. I’m so sorry you went through that. That’s horrible, people can be so cruel. You didn’t deserve that. You never could. I’m...” Leaning back a little, he looked her in her eyes. “Nothing I say or do could ever erase that. As much as I ate it, it couldn’t. But the truth is, I want to show you that not everyone is like that. Not everyone is that hateful and cruel. And I want to show you that you deserve better. And that you’ll never be treated like that again. Not ever again. Not as long as I’m around.” Darrean moved slowly, brushing a strand of Amelia’s hair back from her eyes. “No one deserves that. But especially not someone as beautiful as you, Amelia. I know I can’t take it away. But I can be here to show you how valuable you are. And I can be here to prove to you that I would never, ever do or let anything like that happen again. I’m here, Amelia. You’re not alone. And you won’t be anymore, unless that’s what you want.”

Thank you to everyone who voted in the Mark Leader Election! I know I ran unopposed, but it still means a lot that people believed in me enough to vote for me instead of abstaining. I want everyone to know that I am planning on taking this as seriously as it deserves to be taken. I already have so many ideas, and I can’t wait to set them into motion. To begin, I want to open the floor to my fellow Switches. I would really like some feedback, to hear what it is you’re all specifically hoping to see improve here for those carrying the new mark. What challenges have you faced? What questions do you have? What would be most beneficial to you at this stage of things? Let me know, I want to hear from each of you!

I don’t want anyone to think they’ve been forgotten. While these elections were to unify the marks, with the way things have been going I think we could all do with some unity. I’m working on another idea for this weekend. One that I hope will help everyone start to rebuild some of these bridges. I’m not going to reveal what it’s for, because I don’t want that to be used as a reason people don’t attend, or skip out. But, I would like for everyone- and I do mean everyone- to leave their name and mark down below. I’ll release the “why” later. Just know that this is for an event that will require participation this weekend. It won’t be massive and it won’t take up too much time, but it will happen in parts, and it will require some effort. Due to some required re-workings, the pairings list for the retreat has been updated. Parker St. James will no longer be participating, and Fletcher Hudson has requested to be paired with Astrid Porter. As it stands, Marley Rose has agreed to take on both Carson Clarington and Jamie Huggins as partners.

“Honest and true, you’re a dream, Dare bear. I love the stuffed animals, thank you. I ain’t never got one from anyone but Two before. And the sandwich looks killer, you’re right, I ain’t eat. You’re doin’a right job of takin’ care of me. Here I thought I’d be takin’ care of you this weekend.” And of course, the topic from before came up again. Darrean wasn’t going to let it go, he was too sweet and he cared too much. Hugging the bear to her chest, Amelia buried her nose into the fur and took a deep breath. Stalling. He hugged her and she leaned into him without hesitation, still holding the bear. “I just…” Head lifted. “Thought I was tougher than I am. I ain’t have too great of a time without Two to protect me. It was pretty shit. So I’m just glad to be back here. And heyo, thanks to you I’m not even lonely anymore so… All’s well that ends well.”

Darrean’s expression became one of surprise and genuine flattery when Amelia gave her compliment. “Thanks for saying as much, Amelia, but really I’m...Just doing what you deserve. Making sure you’re alright, and happy. That you have what you need. I’m glad you like it, there’s more where that came from. Two is an incredible brother, nothing could ever replace or over shadow him. But, I’m glad I could add to that for you. You deserve it.”  He nodded, a knowing twinkle in his eye a she admitted that she hadn’t eaten. “Is that okay with you, Amelia? Me, taking care of you? You deserve it. I want to make sure you’re okay. I know it’s easy to get lost in a place like this one. To get drowned out by all these personalities and voices that are so loud. But...I won’t let that happen to you. I don’t want it to.” His eyes dropped, though a smile formed on his lips when he noticed her hugging the bear to her chest. Darrean felt her weight leaning into him, and he held her tighter then, rubbing circles across her back in a comforting gesture. While she explained what was happening, he kept his eyes on hers, nodding his understanding and continuing his physical comfort. “Do you want to talk about what happened to lead you to that thought? We don’t have to, I won’t be the one to push. But you can. I’ll listen to anything you have to say, Amelia. Either way, I’m sorry that’s how you’re feeling. I won’t pretend to know what happened, but I can say without a doubt that you’re one of the toughest people I’ve ever met. You get up every day, and you face all this crazy stuff with a smile and the brightest sense of humor. You’re there for others, even when they aren’t there for you. You’re smart, and you’re kind. And all of that adds up to one tough cookie in my book. But...Even with all of that, I’m glad you’re back here too. Not because I think you need your brother to protect you. But because it’s...Given us a chance to get to know each other. I’m glad you aren’t lonely anymore. I’ll keep being here, I’ll keep showing up, because I can’t stand the thought of you being lonely. But...If there’s more you’re feeling, or more you want to say, please say it. Let it out. Don’t hold onto it, because that’ll only make things worse. No matter what it is, I’m here. Tidying up around her suite, Amelia was running to make sure that things looked nice enough for company while she knew Darrean was on his way. She’d grown up in Tulsa with a bunch of boys and a sister, her organizational skills and habits for cleaning up after herself weren’t exactly existent. Honestly, her room might belong to a teenage boy and her refrigerator and the food inside it too. So when she heard the knock and opened the door to Darrean and a sandwich, she smiled and bit down on her lower lip. “Hey there, stranger. I reckon you’re a sight. You wanna come in or we havin’ this little get-to-gaaather out here in the hallway for the exhibitionism points?”

When the door opened Darrean smiled immediately, Amelia’s own smile becoming infectious. “If you would prefer we stay our here, I don’t mind. But, I think in there might be a little more comfortable.” He laughed, moving to step into her room. “You’re a sight yourself, as long as that’s a good thing. If not, then disregard that comment.” He moved to sit the sandwich down on her table, turning to present her next with the teddy bear. “I brought you some food, because I know you probably haven’t eaten since lunch, which was some time ago. And, I brought you this, to thank you for everything you’re doing for me and have done for me. You’re really sweet, Amelia, and really cool. I’ve really been enjoying getting to know you. I wanted to give you something to show that.” A shy blush crept up his neck and cheeks, and it was his turn to bite into his lip a little. “I don’t know where it’s more comfortable for you to be- here, or wherever. I don’t know if you want to eat or talk first, or cuddle, or talk and cuddle, or even eat and cuddle. But...I want you to know that I’m stubborn, Amelia. And now that you’ve mentioned needing to talk, and holding things in, I won’t just walk away from it. I’m here. I’ll listen to anything you have to say, and I want to know.” Stepping forward he wrapped his arms around her in a hug, resting his cheek against her head. “So talk, beautiful.”

The day had been a long one, and Darrean had begun to feel its effects, along with the effects of not having given in to his submissive needs, or his Dominant needs, for longer than he could have admitted. For a couple of weeks he’d been going to the infirmary before breakfast, when most of the school was still sleeping, to request pills to stave off the sickness that came with not giving in. But up until now, he’d been throwing himself into all of his endeavors to make sure his mind was focused on anything else. There didn’t seem to be anyone on campus who really saw or acknowledged his presence unless he was doing something for them, and after things with Riley had come to an unexplained and abrupt halt, he’d chosen to put everything other than his efforts on hold. He tried not to let these facts bother him, he was a generally happy and carefree person. But apparently not enough to be reached out to, or cared for in ways beyond his school service. Then, Amelia had appeared like a daisy breaking through the Earth after a long winter, and he had Eleanor to thank. Their cuddling session had helped him more than he could express, and he felt the urge to be close to her, to get to know her, and to take care of her in ways he guessed she might need, after getting pretty overlooked herself. So even though exhaustion threatened to break through the exterior he presented to the world, he pushed forward to see Amelia, determined to get to the bottom of what it was she needed to talk about. Knocking on her door he stepped back, waiting for her answer. He’d brought with him a sandwich he’d made for her, and a teddy bear he’d ordered after they’d first hung out as a thank you for all she’d taken on for him.
