To answer your question: Yes!

Meryl and Milly have a little homestead sort of deal near the base of the mountain where Vash and Knives live and Vash often goes to visit the two. Meryl is a witch in this AU and has set out to do her own magical practice by learning from others she met on travels she took before she settled down where she is now with Milly. As for Roberto, i haven't really figured out him yet (i'm a trimax truther) but he is around. He sticks in the human town that is a little bit away. He has mentored Meryl in the past but he tends to keep to himself. No one really knows what his deal is, even those close to him.

dont get me wrong i love the nasty old man but he hasn't made much of an impact on the AU as of right now. i'm still thinking about him but I have some plans that just might work out! keep an eye out!

HEllo hello hi hi absolutely loving your art and Trigun avian au, but now I have a very deep and necessary need to know about the two black/darker primary feathers you mentioned on Vash and Nai. Is this a reference to rl biology (specifically golden eagles??) or something symbolic to story elements in Trigun? I have way too much knowledge around birds and their wings/feathers/everythings so gotta gotta know

To answer your questions, the dark primaries on their wings are very much a symbolic thing to the canon story of Trigun. In this post I explain it a bit but the gist of it is that due to their high amount of magical energy, their plumage is the same of a golden eagle that has albinism. The dark primaries they have are the same color of standard golden eagle feathers. In this AU as well, avian feathers will slowly darken with age but given that they have a very long lifespan, it would take many centuries for their feathers to get naturally that dark and it would be an even distribution of color rather than two dark feathers. Think of it kind of as getting grey hairs. I plan to also post more of the spec-bio stuff I’ve done for avians in this AU sometime soon so keep an eye out!

Much like how vash and knives’ hair gets darker after using a lot of their plant powers and in turn showing that they are depleting their energy and life force, in this AU the same is true. The more of their magical abilities they use causes their feathers and hair to darken to that of a normal golden eagle rather than one with albinism. Vash’s plumage is just a shade darker in general than Knives’ but that’s due to the fact he gets injured more and all that. In this AU, their powers are very evenly matched even if vash has used a bit more of his powers than knives.

In short: the darkening feathers is a nod to trimax and the depletion of energy the twins go through during the course of the story

Avians can’t fly for the first few years of their lives, but they have family and friends (or in this case, a big sister) to help them learn when the time is right

Context: wolfwood was tasked with hunting vash to earn his and livio’s retirement along with the safety of the orphanage they grew up in. Wolfwood caught feelings like a useless homosexual and eventually gave up on trying to bring vash in but was threatened by his guild to lead them to where he met vash. Vash is then injured and taken while wolfwood is forced to watch his fellow guild members harm the person he loves while Vash keeps looking at him with the most betrayed and hurt expression. The last thing vash hears before being knocked out is Chapel congratulating wolfwood on a job well done, handing him the protection and retirement paperwork and vash’s shattered glasses (along with a secret third thing I’ll reveal later :3c wolfwood is then left on his own in the forest with his and his brother’s freedom but at the price of what he assumes to be vash’s life

Some rough references of Vash and Knives’ plumage for my avian AU. Their wings are based off golden eagles but the color is if golden eagles had a form of albinism (except for the two primary feathers). If you know what I’m referencing with this, congrats! you are burdened with knowledge :D
