1) Your English is probably better than you think it is. I’ve read many posts that ended with something along the lines of “sorry for my bad English” and was surprised because it was worded exactly the way a native English speaker would word it.

2) The main purpose of language is to communicate. Even if communication is a little awkward, as long as we can understand what the other person is trying to say, there’s no need for it to be perfect.

3) You speak English better than I can speak your language.

Sheldon is literally me. 😂🤣 I just submitted a problem set for my Quantitative Analysis class a couple hours ago. In the middle of the night, while I'm working as a security guard at a place out in the middle of nowhere with barely any cell service. Mostly because I can't do much studying at home thanks to all the family obligations. 😂🤣 The struggle is real.

That's pretty cool. 🙂 I have a Prius that does about 45-50 mpg and one of the sites I babysit as a security guard is a meat processing and biofuel plant (just diesel so far, though). I'm also studying Geology with an idea of going into conservation, so this is of particular interest to me.

This guy from uni hit me up and started hitting on me and he kept telling me that I have such an innocent look to me and look way younger and that he thought I was 19 tops (he is 23 and I am 25 actually) which immediately gave me a bad vibe, long story short he followed me on Insta and we kept chatting there and then he randomly attacked me about having a public IG profile and not being bothered about having 3k followers, most of which I don't know personally, and when I kept telling him it really wasn't a problem for me and that I like my followers and 3k wasn't that much to begin with, he hit me with a "you're way different than I thought," and said stuff like he guesses that I am not as innocent as he thought (wtf dude) and that he doesn't approve of the content I post ?????? and doesnt't see a point of the two of us talking anymore??? like, okay creep, I'd rather not be talking to you either and I was just being polite to you but insulting my followers who have never done anything wrong to you and have been nothing but nice, respectful and supportive to me??? Fuck off

Because this post has gotten so long, I've decided to write a summary reblog to save y'all the effort of endlessly scrolling, so here's what happened!

Everyone reacted amazingly to this and decided to help me be extra petty towards creepy uni guy by getting my followers from 3k to a larger number and I can't believe that in just a few days y'all got me to 9k??? Simple out of spite??? I love it and I love you all ❤❤

Creepy uni guy unfollowed me after I made a Christmas post about hitting 7.5k and thanking everyone for following me (per everybody's amazing suggestion, so he would see that I have even more followers now without me direcy telling him because we are all about the subtle pettiness), and I know he knows I have even more followers now because I found him among the people who have seen my most recent story!!! He must be so shook! We got him!!!

Since no one IRL knows I run this blog (and I'd like to keep it as such), people were shook about my sudden influx of attention and another uni guy hit me up and accused me of buying followers because he couldn't understand why I have so many all of a sudden. As if I have money for that!!!

The next morning, I woke up to a message from third uni guy who told me that my post thanking people for following me was "sooooo stuck-up" and in another twist of events, a uni friend decided to jokingly start promoting his own Insta under my most recent post and promised he would post candids of me when he hits a 1000 followers. 😭 He was kidding though and he himself immediately messaged me to tell me he would never post any pictures of me without permission, he just thought this would be a funny thing to say due to all the attention. He was also super supportive about the boost of followers and sent me screenshots showing me I am trending in all the local tags that I used on my post.

On a separate note, he is literally someone who I talk to every day and no one should be sending him hate because he is a good friend, but do you know who also started talking to me and refollowed me after like a year of unfollowing me? A former friend/wannabe influencer who used to be sooooooo frosty to me and unfollowed me without a word and just stopped talking to me alltogether, but is now being extra nice since she has like 4 times less followers than I do! Shameless. So tons of stuff happened on this post.

tl;dr Creepy guy unfollowed me after realizing how many followers I have but is still watching my IG stories, other people attacked me over the increase in followers, my post ended up trending in multiple tags, my friend is trolling on it, no one irl knows I run this blog and a former friend is trying to learn my secret so she would emmulate "my success" even though she hates me

Just wanna talk to some of y’all real quick. Specifically? People saying “the water is coming from the oceans lol wtf.”

You’re right.

It is.

But there’s multiple forms of flooding that can and will take place with the advent of climate change. Yes there is the very real issue of rising sea levels and erosion. That’s happening comparatively slowly.

What isn’t happening slowly is the change of temperature in the ocean and the storms that come with it. Hurricane Sandy was the first big storm to hit NY but I promise you it won’t be the last.

Yeah maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow water from storms, likely hurricanes, is going to hit, and there are two very different flooding issues that come with hurricanes.

1)Rainfall. Like lots of rain. Once you get to a full sized hurricane you risk seeing the kind of rainfall that results in people riding boats through the streets and Manhattan is an island. Between the rivers and the bay, rainfall is the biggest threat of flooding in a nearly inevitable storm.

But there’s one less frequent and way more devastating flooding source.

2) Storm surge. This is the wave/s the winds bring with them from the ocean. I’ve heard of them making landfall anywhere between 6 and 20ft y’all but I’m not sure what the record is. What I saw when we came back from evacuation was the house behind mine picked up off it’s foundation and thrown into another house like a football tackle but with water. That was how it was up and down the island - buildings ripped up and thrown across the streets into other structures by storm surge wherever you looked. The water from a storm surge can and will recede but it takes days sometimes weeks and until it does that water is toxic.

So. When MTA says it’s trying to do flood prevention for climate change, you need to understand that what they’re doing is NOT about rising sea levels. It’s about weather. There are different tactics for combating rising seas but this? This is good because as someone who lived in a place that’s been hit by the shit NY has coming? I promise: Something is way better than nothing.
