I listened to KFAN FM 100.3 which is the “Sports Leader” when it comes to giving the public sports information over radio in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. While listening to the station the broadcasters when I was listening seemed to focus on major top stories across the nation such as Colin Kapernick being named citizen of the year by GQ magazine and odd things such as how the NFL commissioner wants $50 million,lifetime jet. The station though despite talking about goofy things for quite a long portion they did talk about local sports in the metro area, they talked about the come up this season of the Minnesota Vikings and analyzed how they team seems to be doing so good this season and what will keep this momentum going for them this season and a few callers called and expressed their opinions on what they thought the team was doing to perform at their level consistently.

I read an article about Deshaun Watson on having a torn A.C.L and the comments based on this article were strictly sad comments towards him and towards the Texans. Many people are saying they are praying for him and talk about just how devastated they are. One teammate of Watson JJ Watt actually said “Minor setback for a major comeback. We’ve all seen what’s possible, can’t wait to see what’s next. With you every step of the way 4.”so JJ is basically sending his condolences but he doesn't want this to event of him tearing his A.C.L to be looked at as now the season over or “We’ll get em’ next year”

Tony Reali hosts a fun, irreverent half hour of discussion and debate on sports-related topics called “Around The Horn”. Reali chooses the topics and gives each of the panelists, sports writers from major newspapers, a chance to share their opinion, giving them points based on point-of-view, style, and information. He also has a mute button for each participant which he uses to penalize and direct traffic. At the end of each round, the contestant with the lowest score is eliminated until only one remains. I don't fully understand the shows point system but it seems the panelists get the most points when they crack jokes about the players or the team. For example, on the episode I just watched a woman named Ramona Shelburne was talking about the Philadelphia 76ers and how Ben Simmons won't be playing this season and she stated “ You throw 60 million dollars at a guy and he still say no because he doesn't want anything to do with the process they had going on in Philadelphia. Last year Jamal Crawford got a huge deal from the 76ers and he said I just can't do that I'll take less money to stay in LA then I will to go to Philadelphia” Shelburne then received over 10 points toward her personal score in her small segment while others who just basically talked no jokes really only received around 4 points toward their score.

Podcasts Vs. Traditional coverage can easily be compared and contrasted, for example, Podcasts offer a different experience as they are 'chunks' of information, usually consisting of an hour or so, focused on specific topics while on the other hand like an ESPN broadcast goes over many things in the sporting world so podcasts are more specific while other outlets of sports broadcasting are more broad and hit multiple topics usually. Also, Podcasts are more accessible than traditional broadcasts(ESPN). Podcasts can be accessed while in the car driving so you can hear about sports news while you are mobile and out and about but on the other hand you can't watch ESPN on while ur driving, well you could technically but that would be hazardous. Another way podcasts differ from normal broadcasting is podcasts are more tailored to you, their are so many podcast channels out there and podcast ares o personal so you're bound to find one that clicks with you for me personally i just enjoy ESPNs podcasts in general because I branch out and like hearing about multiple types of sports and whats happening in the sporting world and I feel that podcast go more in depth with sports than a normal broadcast of ESPN on TV because they are so revolved around making time for the next segment on the show. So yes podcast and traditional coverage in general have their differences but they are also alike of course in some types of way. First off, sports podcasts and normal sports broadcasts are obviously both revolved around the sports world they are tailored to be made about sports hence why they are called a sports podcast and a sports broadcast. Secondly, they both convey their information to their audience they just have different styles of doing so. Podcasts and Traditional sports broadcast are just another way for certain audiences to get their daily sports news. Podcasts appeal to people who like tailored specific sports new/ sports information and a normal broadcast of ESPN is tailored more for the fan who wants a quick summary of the daily sports new/information it all depends on personal preference.

I just find it interesting how the sports world is glued to the Ball family. This video about LaMelo Ball reached 16k views in 2hours after it was posted while other ESPN videos get posted about Pro Teams and professional athletes don't even get that many views but this high schooler who just turned 16 has in a sense took over. In this video, ESPN is flipping out because LaVar Ball, LaMelos Dad, made the decision to Un-Enroll Lamelo Ball from Chino Hills High and instead homeschool him and train him to be ready for his college ball in two tears at UCLA where LaMelo has already committed for division one basketball. LaVar has chose decided to Un-Enroll him because he doesn't like how the school was treating him and he doesn't like the coaches or the school system at all and I find that quite interesting, I wish in this video they would go over more on why he doesn't like the school or the coaching staff of the basketball team. I also find it interesting how ESPN is talking about which team they think Lamelo will be going to when he is just a 16 year old kid. I can only imagine the constant pressure that he must feel on his shoulders at such a young age.

The article “Rules for being a true sports fan” talks about all the rules that should be followed if you're a sports fan heres a few that caught my attention. #1.Be very careful when using the word "We" with your favorite team. Use it judiciously. Just remember, you don't wear a uniform, you don't play any minutes, and you're not on the team. Many people who follow a team closely act like they are a starter for the team and they talk about the team as if they play for them. #2 No hopping on and off the bandwagon during the season with the flip-flop, "I knew we were going to self-destruct! ... All right, we won six straight! ... I knew we wouldn't keep playing this well. ... I knew we would bounce back!" routine as the season drags along. I feel that this is one of the biggest rules of being a sports fan, personally, I know a ton of bandwagon fans who only want to be fans when their “team” is at its best and the second they aren't at their best they move on with a new team.

This article indicates that a true sports fan should follow and respect all of the unwritten rules. Sports fans need to follow all the rules that go all the way through attire, behavior, friendships, relationships, and loyalties in order to be viewed as a real sports fan in society. Pro sports teams are like what religion and sociology scholars call "totems"—symbols of greater entities that communities gather around for identity and unity.

When I was in High School my friend group was called “The Roasters”. Me and my buddies would team up or go solo and we would roast each other just for fun-no hard feelings. Our friend group treated roasting each other like a lifestyle, to us it was a sport. Most people would say “well how is making fun of each other back in forth a sport?” well you'd be surprised just how much it actually Is like a sport. First of all, to be considered a sport it has to be some type of competition, and our roast battles were judged by an official just like a normal sport would be and the official would ask the crowd of people,who would gather around us while we were roasting, who they liked better and it was judged based off who generated more noise. The judging factor supports the qualification of to be a sport you have to be able to choose a side. Also, watching someone get roasted is extremely funny, unless you're the one getting roasted,so its quite entertaining to watch the pros are broadcasted even on TV just like normal sports and that fills the qualification that it must be entertaining to be a sport. Lastly, its something you could definitely do for fun with your friends, Its all just fun and games at the end of the day.
