Reading Spider-Man comics until my brain pops for no reason aside from wanting to spread love around for Peter Parker. I might discuss things, I will reblog, and I might even sprinkle in some fan art. Love your Spider-Man ♥️🕷️💙
Now, I know what some of you might be wondering to yourselves as you are scrolling through my blog:
What's the point of this?
And I believe that my answer is both a little simple, yet complex. You see, I have been a huge fan of Spider-Man since I was a little kid and the huge live action theatrical release in 2002 came out. Peter Parker is a very easy character to root for as well as hide your face in both shame and annoyance with.
Due to the movies, I started to read his comics... Which is a lot, man (gender neutral)... A lot more than one would think, but as a kid, I had so much fun with it that he started my long passion for comics to this day.
The issue is that sometimes I want to reread it all... And when I mean it all, I mean it all, and every so often I will be reading through things and finding myself shocked by stories, plot threads, comic spin offs that are not quite spin offs (hello Amazing Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man), that even I get all mixed up.
That started to make me think about how others must be feeling when it comes to our friendly hero. I thought to myself, 'surely others are as interested in someone blogging about this as much as me,' what with discussions of comics both in depth and with witty comments.
Of course there will be a lot of panels scattered throughout this blog- in context moments, out of context moments and of course there will be some stories I just will not care about...
But the point of the journey here is that this blog is meant to be a deeply personal experience undergoing this series again and bringing you along with me.
Hopefully those of you who wanted to know more about Peter, or even just want to interact with a blog that is about him, will enjoy your stay!
I feel like Peter's the type of guy who started reading up on spiders as soon as he started feeling comfortable with his spidey powers. He's a smart as well as curious guy, it's more weird if he didn't do that.
I imagine that he's always had a library card, but he started going more often
Thankfully, the second part was in the same issue, so you and I don't have to worry too much about that story going missing...
Unlike this post :/
*tabs my foot on the ground and looks at my watch,*
All right, let's get the show on the road, shall we?
I don't like the tone you're using on me...
I do have to wonder how crazy this must have looked- Like, could you imagine how quickly Peter scales a skyscraper?
Ohhh Petey, you little stinker... You really have no idea what's about to happen to you, do you?
You know what, without too many comments or anything witty to say, I am just going to let the story do its thing:
The rest of the world can hang for all I care!
Quite a brutal way to look at the world. It's interesting how Peter was written differently at this time vs to how he is often written now. I don't think this would slide these days, which is a little funny because I find people are BEGGING for Peter to be written like this again (well, not begging, just wanting that throne on his side again)
They even started to work on a little jingle for him! This kid's the real deal!
Seems like Peter is having the time of his life-- Oh? What's this?
The cop is most likely thinking that nerves are getting the best of Peter, and I would have to agree with that.
Finally, Peter runs into the man who murdered his uncle, but as he's taking his anger out on him, he makes a horrible discovery that rocks his world:
Remember him?
As Peter lets the man go, he takes a moment to reflect on his actions. I could only imagine the cold sweat he must be having and the way his stomach dropped.
And this, my friends, is the official first issue of Spider-Man.
I know that I didn't have as much commentary compared to my first part, but I guess I just wanted to take a moment and give this some breathing room.
This is so cute :( I often wonder how old Ben and May were supposed to be around the first issue, though
Have I mentioned that I am starting on square one of my reading? Anyways, to save you, me, and my fingers time (unless I, the man who controls this blog, say otherwise), I am going to put my thoughts all in one post per issue, it will be under read more, so I do not get murdered by people saying my posts take up too much space on their timeline:
Also, something very interesting to me is that Peter, despite being called a 'wallflower', tends to walk up to people and openly talk to them with no issue. Nerdy, dweeby, shove into a locker level of a nerd, sure...
But timid? Hmmm... 🤔
Anyways, Peter gets laughed at by his fellow classmates and pulls the Arthur first clench (as he thinks that he'll show 'em! Calm down, Petey) before he settles down and listens to the exhibit
And I do like how this was formatted, so simple. Yet it does so much:
Kind of crazy how such an important story started just like that, isn't it?
Why are people so mean in this?!😭
*By the way, if the box is a little hard to read, it says 'But what a leap it is!'
Do you think that if Peter grabbed his thigh super hard, it would bleed?
I can't believe he's just doing this in daylight, but god... I am a simple man, and I love it when he does this little move:
'I have this amazing gift, and I wonder how I will work through this? Oh yes... I know, I am going to use it on a man who doesn't see it coming :)'
*Not shown is how much the pay would be to take this man down in the ring... The offering is $100. This comic came out in August of 1962, and 100 dollars by today's standards would be around $1,102 and some change.
And so Petey gets so excited about the idea of winning that he goes back home to change, and something about this panel just... It's so interesting to me- Like yeah... That's Peter. The slicked back hair, the little cowlick curl, the widow's peak... Something about it is so... Ugh, it is so GOOD!
Sorry, I just adore comics too much sometimes...
Dear readers/viewers, would you fight someone dressed like this? I don't know if I would... Seems a bit spooky...
*Also, something I find interesting about this look is that it is sometimes recolored to be red in some reprints.
Thanks, Spidey.
Those are some old-ass shoes he is wearing... Looks Edwardian. Someone out there has knowledge about shoe styles out there, and I am betting they're pulling their hair over my limited knowledge on this subject.
Oooooo, he said it!
Lots going on... Like, how quickly did it take Peter to make his mask? Secondly... And I know this is making me sound hungry, but MMMMM-mm, crackers and milk sound so good right now... Third, do you think Ben and May heard him, or do you think that Peter has the best walls and door in the world?
Man... Houses were just built differently around back then :/
Ahaha, nice to see you and I are on the same page, Petey! And here Peter is, working on his webshooters for the first time.
So, as you can see, Petey is working on his webshooters, which brings up something I didn't know about them:
Liquid cement??? Knowing that he's interested in chemistry, I suspect there's more to it than that. I just wonder, how much more?
With that being said,
Now that he mentions it, there were a lot of people wearing hats in the background. Pretty sure I saw someone wearing a top hat while he was first in the ring.
And with that ends the first part of the comic as well as this post (since there's a 30-image limit on here, I would rather keep everything as self-contained as possible for you all)
I hope that you guys enjoyed looking at the pretty pictures as much as I enjoyed reading this, as well as talking to you guys about this!
A fair warning: I may skip out some more recent comics, so if you are here for the newer comics and my thoughts on them, I may RARELY express my thoughts.
If you wanna ask about my thoughts on recent things relating to Peter in any media form, ask away! I will do my best to answer.
