Mystery Team
Its been a while since I posted a movie review. I've been kinda lazy (don't judge me), and I traded out my Netflix subscription for a HuLu PLus, so I could catch up on my sitcoms. One of my favorite sitcoms is, Community, which co-stars the artist currently know as Childish Gambino, Donald Glover (no relation to the n!gga from Lethal Weapon). The fact that I like Glover so much as a comedic actor and writer is why I find it so hard to take him seriously as Gambino (and the fact that I'm a little Jelly that he got to meet Hologram Tupac last year at Coachella doesn't help his case). I know most rappers aren't what they say they are but he REALLY is an actor, like for real I mean he has an IMDB page and e'rrything.
This brings me to Mystery Team. A movie which Donald wrote and starred in with D.C Pierson and Dan Eckman, who are collectively know as the Derrek Comedy Group. The movie is about 3 high school seniors who as kids solved mysteries around the neighborhood for a dime a hit...no not that kind of dime, I mean 10 cents. The trio never really grows up and as a result they are outcast in school. The gang gets approached by a little girl to solve the murder of her parents. Glover falls for the sister of the little girl, played by Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation (another personal fav), and the Mystery Team take this last case to prove to everyone they are "real detectives."
It took me a while to buy into the movie because they don't just act like they are kids, they acted like kids that grew up in the 50's dressing in snug jeans cuffed over solid color chucks and saying phrases like "spill it skillet" and "golly gee." But it did win me over. The ridiculous costumes that Glover's character dressed up in and the reactions to the rest of the world to the socially handicapped trio sold me. Plus I am a fan of Gambino's dry humor. With that said if I would have had anyone of the three in class with me during high school I probably would have smacked the sh!t out of em...often. Anyway good movie and if Glover gets a chance to meet a hologram Aaliyah at this years Coachella he better get ready for a Twitter with yours truly @datboidunn!
