”Because you’re still here and you’re still fighting. And whether you want to admit it or not, you still care.” she pointed out, this close to telling Nyssa that she still cared about Thea, but the woman would most likely just deny it anyway. And while their relationship wasn’t perfect and there were many bumps in the road, Thea herself did actually care about Nyssa. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t be here to tell her all of these things and she wouldn’t have stuck around to try and protect her from herself. Speedy could have simply walked away when Malcolm did, but she was still standing in front of Nyssa, her presence and refusal to abandon the other proof that she indeed wanted to save her. Emerald eyes blinked in slight surprise as another comment was barked out, the words catching Thea off guard somewhat, but she kept her stance and let out a small breath next. “The fact that you have hatred at all just proves that you’re unhappy. When’s the last time you felt truly happy, Nyssa? Do you even remember? Are you living or just existing?”
Nyssa struggled for longer than she cared to admit to recall the feeling - happiness, true happiness, without the shadow of her regrets or her vengeance overhanging it all. There had been moments since she came to Star City - glimpses of a life she might have when she finally lay down her sword, if she ever did. People who might one day be truly considered friends if she ever let herself feel close enough to someone to call them that, and mean it. But she wasn’t sure how true any of it was - how much she was just deluding herself in a poor attempt at self-soothing. “Why do you care?” She asked, instead of answering. Though the question was genuine, almost aching. “After everything, why?”
