Ali chuckled and took the fish from Ziya throwing it up so the dragon could catch it but she didn’t reply to his question, Ali was not one for love, Like Nova’s love for knowledge her heart belonged to the sea but she wouldn’t dash his hopes either, it was fun to see if anyone could try.
Vlad looked at her and took her silence for the answer that it was. Clasped his arms behind his back. “Well shall we drop you off anywhere or shall we leave you here? I have been gone and my absence will be noticed.”
Ali patted ziya gently and smiled at him
“I’ll walk thanks, i need to drop off at the hunters guild anyway and talk to Saige, you should be more careful of the town’s you fky over though.”
“We will, won’t we Ziya?”
Ziya nodded and nosed Ali gently with a soft sound.
“She wants a goodbye hug.” Vlad informed Ali.
Ali laughed a bit and hugged the dragon gently
“thank you sweetheart, I appreciate the joy you’ve shown me. Keep him out of trouble’
Ziya nodded and crouched so Vlad could get up to the saddle. “I’ll see you around Ali.”
"looking forward to it" Ali said as she headed off for the guild

“Many kings have rules since they were young, your age or younger still.” Ali said to him as if it were so simple
“Their lands thrive to this day, King Damian and Queen Gracia have both ruled since they were young despite the mistakes they have made, Queen Naomi, King Jasper, Queen Artemis, should I paint a broader picture or are you blind as you are dense?” Ali asked him the smile on her face still showed she was mostly trying to tease him despite it being a tad harsh which she knew but if these Advisers of his had pulled the wool this far over his eyes then someone needed to pull it out.
“Surely you know your people more than they do, you are not three any more you don’t need to listen to their every command, children do as they’re told without question, men make their own choices and deal with whatever comes from them.”
He looked at her, “and if I made a choice to choose you instead?” It had come out of his mouth so quickly he couldn’t call it back. Vlad felt a flush come to his face and he coughed in the silence then turned and looked to Ziya. “Well I have made a fool of myself haven’t I?”
Ziya made her chuckle sound and continued tossing her fish in the air fire baking it and eating it.
the grin never left Ali’s face even with his little outburst
“I will tell you what i’ve told many others before you, you are welcome to try but to chase me does not mean that you will catch me.” Ali told him her last suitor that had approached had been so angry upon leaving their final ‘date’ that he had described courting her as ‘nailing jello to a wall’ it simply couldn’t be done and ali had been very proud of such a description, she had a fire in her that would not be tamed and would not burn brighter for just anyone.
“I don’t chase,” Vlad shook his head. “I’m not Alice you are. If you are chasing that means you aren’t quick enough to keep pace.” He smiled then made a bow, “I look forward to our adventures. I think Princess Nova will be much relieved.”
“Oh no she’ll be excited,” Ali told her shaking her head “I love her dearly but the woman cannot keep her nose out of my love life. I promise you once you tell her you’re going to try courting me she’ll be more interested in you than ever before.”

Ali turned to him and frowned a little bit
“Tolerate you is a harsh term, it’s more of I tolerate the things you do. I tolerate your flirting and corny pick up lines and I tolerate you hitting on Nova despite that the only love of her life being the galaxy and knowledge of the island, you as an actual person I don’t know enough about whether to claim I tolerate you or want to be your friend.” Ali said she picked up a stone and skipped it across the pond smiling when it sank a bit as she looked back at Vlad
“Guess I’ll have to spend more time with you before I decide”
“Marriage isn’t about love according to my advisors, and I’m afraid I haven’t had anyone to tutor me in finding favor with a girl.” Vlad clapped his hands as the rock skipped. “Ten out of ten.” He rated then shook his head, “You don’t have to spend time with me if you aren’t interested. I’m sure you have much better ways and better people to spend it with, rather than listening to me boring you and/or annoying you.” He picked up a rock and skipped it. At the heart of himself he had very little selfworth in his eyes. He viewed himself with disdain and harsh scrutiny.
Ziya lifted her head above the water and in her mouth were several fishies. She let out a happy sound and bounded back to land to roast them and eat them.
Ali rolled her eyes at him
“Ok self loathing doesn’t get you anywhere for starters” Ali told him with a soft chuckle as she folded her arms over her chest “and if I didn’t want to spend time with you, I wouldn’t. Besides there’s the possibility of you courting my best friend I need to make sure you’re worthy of trying,” Ali said to him obviously teasing with the last part Ali knew she had no say in what Nova did but she also knew that if Vlad didn’t like her and they did end up getting married that may cut Ali out of the picture
“I’m afraid that is all I have for myself, contempt. I care only for others.” Vlad shook his head his dark hair shifting in the breeze of his movements. “Besides it isn’t that I wish to marry her so much as my advisers do. I don’t wish to trap her in a unhappy marriage, so I’m trying to create something of feelings between her and I. It isn’t my fault that she is one of the few eligible ladies of the isle that my advisors all agree on. I’m just as trapped as she is. If my heart belonged to someone else they don’t care I’m a King and yet I cannot marry for love. Not that I have anyone in mind.” A lie, he did have someone in mind but she wouldn’t think of him that way and that was fine. It wasn’t like he could pursue it.
Ali nodded and seemed to take a pause to ponder his situation before she turned to look at him
“I see your point but tell me something, do you always let your advisors rule your territory? are you king or puppet?” Ali asked him smirking a little bit at him as she folded her arms over her chest
“Last I knew advisors were supposed to give their opinions but in the end the king was supposed to have the final say, I didn’t realize the dragon isles did things in such a backwards manner”
Ali turned to him and frowned a little bit

Ali clung to him tighter and shut her eyes tight at the sinking feeling in her stomach
“Ok so not like sailing, definitely not like sailing” She said more to herself than to him as she buried her face in his back in an attempt to stop, Bruhilde was so much nicer probably because she was afraid that Ponyo would kill Cas if she wasn’t.
They were glyding high just below the clouds. “Are you ok?” Vlad asked real concern in his tone as he looked back at her.
“Uh-huh, fine. better when we get there.” Ali said only opening her eyes to look at the landscape below,
“There’s a clearing right outside the magic kingdom that has a waterfall and lagoon. Plenty of fish but some mermaids sometimes hang out there whether they’re the kind who enjoy drowning or the kind that enjoy flirting depends on the day.”
“I preffer not to be drowned or seduced.” Vlad said with a chuckle. “Not a fan of heights?” He asked her.
“heights im usually ok with, this doesn’t seem to agree with me though” Ali said to him glancing up again to find another place that they could perhaps find foe ziya to fish
“I’m Sorry,” Vlad said he meant this too, flight with dragons was a special thing, for her not to enjoy herself was a sadness indeed. “Down there looks nice shall we go there?” He pointed to a pond.
Ali nodded a bit taking a deep breath
“sorry I suppose I wasn’t expecting this,” she said with a nervous laugh she knew better for next time at least
“Perhaps,” Vlad said unclipping himself and getting down. “Alright Ziya,” he patted her. “Go fish my dear I’ll watch you safely from here!”
Ziya once freed bounded down to the lake and dove in.
“You should come to the Dragon Isles, it is so peaceful and wonderful. You would find your every need met.” Vlad looked to Ali. “You would be my guest.”
Ali smiled a bit
“I prefer to handle my own needs, I don’t like being catered to hand and foot.” Ali told him her parents had tried very hard to make sure she and her siblings were all down to earth kids who weren’t always spoiled rotten
He looked at her, “that isn’t how I meant it.” Vlad said softly looking away. He hadn’t meant spoil, he had meant it as she would be comfortable and her needs met with understanding and provided for.
Ali smiled a bit
“sorry, guess I’ve heard to many proposals of guys giving me ‘everything my heart desires’ and all that. I don’t know why people see that as an appealing offer though”
“I suppose it means security, not everyone can be independent. It wasn’t a proposal, you are lovey but, I know you tolerate me.” He would not admit she was on his mind more than Princess Nova whom he was urged to court for marriage by his counselors. The whole Kingdom must have an heir. He wasn’t that much into his adulthood and already things were expected of him. He didn’t want children not yet. Nor did he want marriage necessarily. But Ali, the way she kept him on his toes, that was the kind of partner a man who had become King needed. One who was thought provoking and kept him rooted.
"tolerate is a harsh word," Ali said with a frown "I only tolerate you when you hide behind your ridiculous pick up lines and flirting, I tolerate that you're courting Nova when she has only an Interest in knowledge and the stars, other than that I have to get to know you before I can deem whether or not I tolerate you or want to be better friends with you"
Ali turned to him and frowned a little bit
