“Maybe if you had just talked to me, we could’ve avoided this!” No we couldn’t have because we’ve been down this road before. I gave you my beef and blocked you on the spot. That was the only way I could avoid the drama you’d create. Because, as my memory serves, talking to you about anything would always result in a huge pity party. You’d never listen, and I was right. Out of all those excuses, you still blamed me and never once offered an apology. Good riddance.

Mort has a crush on mark... But hed never act in it because fear that it would ruin their friendship and more importantly destroy the Anime Club. Mark and mort are the founding members in my headcanon.

But mark would react favorably to it ,after getting over his shock , except that hed also agree that it could be disaster for the club sense they're both so hot and cold, libel to fight more as a couple and the members would be conflicted...

But mark would have to admit to himself that mort is pretty much his soulmate and the only one he can't stay away from without his chest getting tight. ( also realizing amy has the same personality traits as mort and that is why he was attracted to her )

The stages would be:

mort and mark as friends but tension is there, mort realizing he fell in live with mark but being in denial , acceptance from mort that he likes mark , realization or forgone conclusion that he cant tell mark , mark realizing he likes mort as more than a friend but also dating amy... , mort accidentally confessing, mark accepting it but then they both talk their way out of it. - a truce until the club disbands

Mort being in the gifted program and being told he's so smart too much so that he developed an ego. He talks to adults as though they on equal ground or worse as though they arebeneath him. Teachers dislike him but cant reasonably give him a bad grade so he will get a few As with B and a C if the teacher is vindictive enough or all Bs when he deserves straight As.

Mark is average to slightly above average in intelligence but he coasts through school and never exerts himself so he gets all Cs when he could get straight Bs. He never makes himself the spotlight . But he's friendly enough and handsome enough to get away with being

I'm tempted to have them meet in first in the gifted program class before mark started to get a few questions wrong on purpose.

Mark getting set off by mort implying that hes dumb and just acing the mid term all around. But mort not being as mad that he list but that Mark doesn't apply himself and Mark just being confused by this.

if Clyde just joined the school LAST YEAR he would presumably be a freshman. but also ONE YEAR AGO, Mort got kicked out... but was he a freshman who just made the Japanese Animation Society or was he a Sophmore?

Because if he's was then i have to change his age to 16 in the comic and 17 now...

not that it makes him canonically watching hentai any better...

Reading Anime Club again.. The flashback where Mort is so friendly towards Clyde and is sniping way less but Mark is a jerk most of it...either because he refuses to play pretend or wants the club to stay small and a niche group...

I noticed that Mark snipez at Mort throughout it and Mort basically says Mark is the more personable one in his own way - Mark , who should know better by now -takes offense

And its mark who causes Mort to act out both in the first club meeting that clyde was in and at the library... Mark knows what to say to piss mort off and uses it when he gets riled up.

Thats part of why i headcanon them as childhood friends. They know each other too well and know just what will set off each other. But mark seems to have a begrudging respect for Mort and likes hanging out with Mort, he just does not want to be honest because hes a teenager. These are teenagers who dobt know how to be jobest about feelings meeting clyde who is jonest and says what mark doesn't want to hear.

Why cant you just tolerate each other?

To an outsider, it looks like they really hate each other but dave knows its the opposite.
