This piece, the first in a series, was directly inspired by a detail shot of a much larger painting posted to Instagram some months ago (shown in second photo). There’s something intriguing about taking a rather decorative slice out of a much moodier piece about loss, stasis, and acceptance. Stripped of its context, how much content remains? Is its provenance enough to tie it conceptually to its source, or is the link only superficial? Looking forward to exploring these ideas further. This piece and the painting it was “edited” from will be in my show at @linda_hodges_gallery in June.
