The Subtle Sounds Of Love By David N. Donihue

I have heard the subtle sounds of love harmonizing just beneath the walla of the subway.

As if the souls of the passengers had crawled collectively beneath the train and above the tracks.

Dashing along with us, harmonizing a tone of warm pensive forward movement.

Somehow, someway. Just forward.

Together without knowing it.

Forward.

I have heard the subtle sounds of love.

They’re not so subtle when you choose the frequency.

They ripple off the oddest places.

They pulse within the darkest of spaces, shredding through the painful waters of insecurity.

Restoring in us, what we are meant to be.

You hear them in the eyes of cops and criminals. You hear them on the skin of the meek and mournful.

You hear them echoing the same soft tune, hoping their harmonies are heard.

Hoping their harmonies are felt. Without question. Just felt and returned and felt.

I have heard the subtle sounds of love, in the hope of victims and in the regrets and reinventions of the violent and vicious.

I have heard the subtle sounds of love -

In old diners. In coffee shops and snobby restaurants. In the harrowing halls of Corporate America and in the desperate dives of the Sunset Strip.

I have heard them when I am accepted.

And when I am turned away.

I have heard them when I wanted to die.

And I’ve felt them coax me back to sane. I’ve heard them In every corner of this town.

So many, they are louder than all other noises when you look the fuck around.

WANDER

Today our minds will wander

In directions unknown 

Just seconds prior

They will wander from regret

And wander from reworking

They will wander from longing

And wander from instigating

Today our minds will wander

Into the atoms that make up everything

Where one gets his energy 

is where my mind is heading

Do the neurons send and receive

a simplistic love that

that’s easy to breath

Or do they recycle the negative things

Twist and turn the heart until the mind is useless

Waisted molecules when the past replaces dreams

When the mind stops roaming

And you’re left in stagnancy

So full of mourning 

the loss of discovery

When the mind stops roaming

Petty grievances become one's peace

Wack job tongues, senseless cruelty

The kind of shit that gets your car keyed

Dear God, Jesus Please

I forgive this world 

for all its deeds

Reckon with life

Reckon with me

Flush the residue,

In me and him and her and we 

Until the heart feels renewed

And the brain goes free

Flush the residue

Let me wander past 

what pits me against me

Today our minds will wander

Into the nothingness 

of love unending

They will pointlessly even ponder

what could repaint everything

And yes they will definitely wonder

What good lies within each man

The true beauty of life

Perfectly revealed within

They will wander into new colors

They will wander into themes

And somehow uncover

What unifies our deepest dreams

Today our minds will wander

Tooth for a tooth
