An End, But Definitely Not Goodbye
Sadly, of course, this class had to end; yet, my experiences with the cultural offerings of Davis are just beginning! I mean, really, we only just got here. There is still so much to explore!
The scavenger hunt on Friday was a great closer to the class. Watching Dr. Andy lay out all the pictures on the table made me realize how many things we have seen this quarter, and that wasn’t even half of it! Running around Davis in the rain was exciting! Our group had four landmarks to find with three of us on bike and two on foot.
This was a splendid way to reflect on the many things and places we visited and learned about on our adventures with this great group of people.
Through this class, I feel my views on the city of Davis have become clearer. I no longer look at Davis as just a city or just a place where I go to school; now, I see it as a community of people who come together to make it a great and enjoyable place to be. I also feel that my knowledge of culture has expanded as well. For me, the best part of this class was listening. I definitely was not the most talkative person; frankly I am quite the opposite. Expressing my ideas and views to others through words and writing is definitely a challenge for me. I am a listener; and although the ones who are not afraid to speak out and say what is on their mind with ease are the ones whose ideas are heard and appreciated, I believe the listeners are important too; always listening and thinking, although they might not have many words. I loved reading everyone’s blog each week and just listening to what everybody had to say. In this class, we did not just express our own ideas of the culture of Davis, but we got to listen and read about the ideas and views of our peers. That is why I enjoyed this class. I liked hearing everyone’s opinion and insights. With all of our blogs, we created our own space where we all could share our own unique perspectives. We generated our own cultural place by bringing our ideas together that will live on forever in the world of internet blogging.
I can certainly say I learned a lot from this class. Not only have I become more acquainted with finding my way around the streets of letters and numbers, I have also become familiar with the galleries and the art scattered around town, the history of Davis, Thursday poetry nights, the performing arts, the farmers market, the community that keeps Davis running, and things to do in Yolo county. Although I am sad that this class is ending, I am very excited to keep exploring Davis. These past few weeks have opened my eyes to the countless opportunities that the city of Davis offers. This may be the end, but it’s definitely not goodbye!
