One of the reasons why I got so quickly attached to Bernard when i got into the batfam is that he reminds me a lot of Will's introduction as Nico's love interest in HOO.
A, till that moment, side character with few appearances who we knew little about suddenly becoming the boyfriend of one of the most popular characters in the franchise and having their relationship developed off screen. Sounds familiar, right? I remember many people liked Will because they wanted Nico to be happy but a lot we're really hateful to him and the shipp because it wasn't the pair they wanted and because they didn't like Will's character.
I find that the biggest difference between the shipps comes from their medium. While Solangelo comes from a book saga, which usually have an ending, and we can tell solangelo is endgame, Timber comes from DC, who doesn't even like to age their characters up and few pairings get the endgame treatment because everything depends on the writer in charge of the story which means that after Tim's writer changes Timber could be easily broken, so hating in something so fragile is quite useless.
It's nice how with every new piece of official media we get with either of these characters, we learn new facts about them and their respective relationships, and how we have freedom to imagine parts of their relationships as we please.
Hating on fictional characters is so dumb. Do better people.
