Analysis of “Harry’s House” teaser
3/23/22
I have some thoughts about the “Harry House” teaser video.
First, since the music only makes sense going in reverse (plus all the upside-down imagery), I think it is safe to say that the video is supposed to be watched backward, so my analysis will be for it backward.
So we open on Harry standing on a stage in front of a house. Now, it’s not a real house - it’s a facade. It’s made for a performance, but not something real. Dramatic music plays as the house lowers around Harry and then Harry begins to leave the stage. It is as he begins to exit that a sweet melody begins to play. He looks around at the stage and to the non-existent audience. From his POV, we see him leave and look up into the lights.
Then, we are taken into the crowd at concerts (I am assuming his own) and there is a brief shot of a man jumping (that reminds me of the end of Louis’ Director’s Cut MV). Then there are fireworks and two streaks of light appear across the sky in a city. There are a few brief shots of city life (metro, people walking, taxis) and a definite shot of the street of Paris. The dark city imagery is then followed by two shots of the sunrise in two different locations.
The shot after that is very dark but features a person riding a horse quickly through the streets. We have five shots left: a taxi going through the streets, the New York City skyline, a hot air balloon in the sky, an airplane, and finally the daffodil.
It seems almost as if Harry is leaving the facade of a “house” on the stage. He reminisces about his concerts and traveling to all the different cities in the world. However, those shots are dark which can usually be interpreted as sad and lonely. However, after the sunrise (in two different places) there is only one dark shot, the man on the horse. It is almost like the horserider is escaping in the middle of the night. He then goes to a brighter NYC before making the final journey, first by hot air balloon and second by plane. He then arrives in the field of daffodils - home.
And guess what person said daffodils are their favorite flower?
Louis.
Daffodils are also a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings due to them being one of the first flowers in springtime.
I believe this album will tell the story of everything covered in the teaser: the facade, the lonely traveling, the hope, the journey, and most importantly, home.
I haven’t used Tumblr since 2012, so I hope I am doing this right :)
