You girls are obsessed with Moon Baby. Your dad and I have your Grandma K to thank for this one.
The main character is Pepi Nana, and every night she magically awakens and beckons her best friend Moon Baby, from his home on the moon, to fly to Earth and awaken the rest of their pals in the little toy house. They go on adventures together in story land. The only other movie you stop dead in your tracks for consistently is Moana. Mommy plays the soundtrack in the car for you, and as every song ends, all you guys say isĀ āma ma ma ma ma,ā your plea for more. You also have a soft spot for Michael Buble, because he sings a song in one of the episodes of Moon Baby namedĀ āThe Silly Songā, and the title isĀ āHorsey in the House.ā Itās quite the catchy jingle, I wonāt lie. You two go nuts for it.
Every night before bed, you get milk. We have three cups a day, but rarely do you all end up finishing it anymore (especially Rey). As we drink our milk, we watch Moon Baby. Each episode is approximately 20 minutes. During this time we change you into your Goodnight Diapers, then pajamas. Once you finish your milk, ideally with at least five minutes left of Moon Baby, da da and I brush your teeth. Weāve learned that if we have Moon Baby on as a distraction, the process goes much smoother. As Moon Baby wraps up, we read one of two books. Llama Llama Red Pajama (which I could probably recite to you now from memory), or, thanks to your Aunt Shelly, a book sent straight from the UK titled,Ā āGoodnight, Moon Baby.ā I have to hide this one from you during the day, because if you had access to it 24/7, as you do to most of your board books, that thing would be in shreds and you guys would be fighting all. the. time.
Once weāre through reading our book, we have you all fetch your stuffed toy of choice. For Rey, itās always the grey bunny. For Remi, one of two plush babies. Grammy had gotten you girls Cabbage patch kids for your first birthday, and Remi has a particular affinity for the brunette. Grandma got you two soft little babiesĀ in your stockings for Christmas this year, and also, Remi likes the brunette.Ā
Then we scoop you two up. Usually youāre both already on our laps. We bend down and give Groot kisses, one by one. Then mama kisses one of you, then dada. Then mama kisses the other, then dada. Then you both kiss each other. Then mama and dada give each other a smooch, too. Then we walk up the stairs. The light in the upstairs bathroom is on, and your sound machine is already humming.Ā
Then we put you down, Rem. You let us tuck you in, as you hold your baby close. One blanket, then two. Perfectly still, but literally the ONLY time you ever are. We blow kisses and say goodnight.
Then Rey. The moment your little body hits the mattress you squirm, sit up, and make your way to the corner of your crib. We still try tucking you in, thinking one day you might like it, but the effort at this point is still futile. You donāt cry, though. Youāre either looking up at us waiting for air kisses or youāre smiling. Just last night daddy suggested that you might have an imaginary friend. It made mommy laugh out loud. You tend to stay up for a bit and talk to yourself, laughing randomly, while your sister is sound asleep a few feet away from you. I think itās cute.
The differences in you two are so funny.Ā
If you every wonder what mama and dada do after you two are down, usually by 7 every night, the answer is this: eat and watch TV. Ideally Chipotle, and hopefully binging a new Marvel show on whatever streaming service. Yes, your parents are nerds.
