My analysis of the poem “XIV” by Derek Walcott for AP Lit. We had a snow day today so school was cancelled :)
SATURATED FUTURE
In the small community of Sutherland Springs, a gunman opened fire at a church late Sunday morning. Gov. Greg Abbott said in a press conference Sunday night that at least 26 people have been killed.
ONE MILLION POINTS
Meditations
Oftentimes I'll spend long periods of time just sitting there with my eyes closed, my mind still... waiting, but not expecting, with sort of complete faith that my laptop will unfreeze itself. Eventually.
National Rangoon
So for breakfast I reheated the crab rangoon (really Betty's? Only 4 pieces??) I hadn't opened from last night and experienced a tonsil burning sensation I imagine is similar to deep-throating a hot curling iron...
Often, while playing a show or flirting with pizza delivery personnel (attempting to, at least - usually the conversation revolves awkwardly around gas mileage or Canadian prime ministers), I am asked "What IS that instrument you play?" To which I give one of two responses: *EDIT: Let me add: Both of these conversations happen, almost word for word, on a regular basis. Not for the faint of heart or epileptic.* R1: "The Vibraphone." Typically then at this point, the conversation, like a dying star, can no longer sustain itself and has a very near and cataclysmic ending. Their face often contorts into a mix of confusion, doubt, pity, and maybe the slightest bit of repulsion/disgust, plus then a half-smile to try to mask the confusion/doubt/pity/repulsion-disgust... ultimately, it's a facial expression resembling The Joker crossed with a BMV employee. R2: "The Vibes." The answer I use more often, because it a) sounds (slightly more) cool and hip and b) is less likely to literally assassinate the conversation. The only problem with this response is that, invariably, I kid you not, the conversation that follows goes more or less exactly like this: "The what?" "The Vibes." "No, no, I meant that thing you were playing." "The Vibes." "On stage?" "Vibes." "Oh that's cool! But what was that instrument you were paying on stage?" "The Vibes." "I mean, the sort of like xylophone thingy?" "Vibes. They're called vibes." "Oh man that's dope. But what do you call that thing you were playing? Up there with the band?" "Guitar." - (In my head only. Usually by this point I give up and go back to R1.)Edit
Dallas Observer
We’re super [honored\bummed] to have been [selected/not selected] to receive a renowned Dallas Observer music award this year!!!! To have even been nominated is a testament to the hard work my fellow mates have put in to this project, and we are quite ready to [celebrate in/be blackballed from] the upcoming events! As you probably know, we’re currently finishing up our latest [collection of ultra-hip tracks/irrelevant heap of disharmonic psycho-drivel] that, more than ever before, showcases our [talent for infectious grooves/inability to connect with anyone, in any way, ever]. It’s certainly the [next step/latest exercise in futility] in the [evolution/demise] of the band, and we're anxious to play it for our [uncontrollably excited/disgusted and dismayed] fans in the Dallas Observer Music Awards Showcase with other amazing artists like Dezi 5, The Funky Knuckles, Sam Lao, Charley Crockett, Yells At Eels, Vandoliers, SuperSonic Lips, The Texas Gentlemen, Friday's Foolery, Party Static, cygnus, etc.... FOR SURE we’ll be [throwing a 54-hour warehouse party/drowning our misery in Cuervo Gold tequila]. We’re eagerly awaiting the [favorable/misguided] decision, so please let us know when we can [pick up our award/go f*** ourselves], and what (if anything) we should wear. Behind the Vibes
In between gigs I like to sit back with some classic sci-fi, disengage the airplane mode my butt is apparently IN LOVE with, and finish the breakfast I made in the morning but forgot/didn't have time to even start eating, while also getting eaten by all of the mosquitos (i.e. circle of life). Plus maybe snag one of those new mosquito diseases that makes your skin fall off in chunks and turns your intestines into basically tapioca pudding...
Pre-gig Ritual
Trim fingernails over a few pages of Assimov (or Philip K Dick) Trim mallets (as needed) Jam over some Steely Dan (Your Gold Teeth I and/or II, West of Hollywood, Green Earrings) WD-40 squeaky parts (motor, fan assembly, pedal, wheels, damper arms) Use bathroom (as needed) Disassemble vibes (FML)
The nutritional benefits of eating 6-8 donuts before biking include...
Little Ox
Rolling Stop
Little Ox Rolled through a stop And hit an orange van It was unmarked Double-parked On 31st and Mann
It moved enough That all the stuffs Inside it not nailed down Landed in The HAZMAT bin Then turned a sickly brown
It melted through [the acid goo] The van’s steel-plated floor The clutch, AC The extra key The pleather on the doors
Far down it went A great descent A hole through Earth itself The sky went black The heavens cracked But then came something else...
A rumbling roar! Within the core Crawled up into the crust The grass, the trees The birds and bees All crumbled into rust
As Little Ox (Who hated cops) Reversed and fled the scene The sunset died The planet cried Long tears like kerosene
Time
There is no time! In a little while I will be egregiously late for work. They’ll crucify me and get over it. I’ll probably die anyway. If this coffee doesn’t kill me first, and believe me, it’s trying.
I don’t drink (coffee) that often, but when I do the quality varies from high quality HD blends to some awful black lagoon strains that no amount of sugar, cream, or novacaine could hope to resurrect.
The Answer is silent today, E is off his game! Or maybe had enough. Doubtful. The coffee is hard to swallow, closing my neck boa fashion. The accompanying banana, more phallic than usual, is really not doing much in the alleviation department. It’s a crazy drug.
I have absent mindedly shaped the remaining banana and two oranges into a very familiar body part.
You know which one.
The smiley face. :)

The Miscellany Adventures of Little Ox
Little Ox had one good friend called Gingerale the Genie She loved The Cars Some Bruno Mars 2 Chainz and Pat Metheny They liked to have adventures:
On summer nights They’d make their flight They traveled light (for speed) They’d journey through The morning dew And stop to gather seeds ‘Cause Ginger was a vegan
By heaven’s dawn They’d long be gone Somewhere beyond the known Their double vectors Wandered sectors Far away from home E.g. The Land of M’ath:
Where royal numbers Counted under Sleepy Slumber Sloths Who hibernate To calculate How much their slumber costs In real projected planes
They overheard A message bird: The King of Words was here! His only son Had been undone Backspaced and disappeared Thick clouds of war were brewing
Our heroes left For Treble Kleffs (Wherein dwelled deaf musicians) Up mountains high They climbed the sky To see ancient physicians - For sinus medication
The afternoons On desert dunes Had felt like June/July But then the breeze A frigid freeze Would chill their piercing eyes Good thing they saw that doctor...
They waltzed with three Anemone In undersea volcanoes To fluid grooves They learned the moves Of six aquatic tangos Until they had to leave
At 6:13 Their slurpmarine (a great machine with sails) Began to creak - It sprung a leak! So Ox and Ginger bailed The Gluglug lost forever
To make it worse They lost her purse! Our friends were cursed, it seemed So Ginger cried Tears of fried Chicken, pork, and beans She was a genie, after all
The woke, marooned That afternoon A foggy gloom had settled It reeked of dread So Ginger said “Please put me in my kettle!”
TO BE CONT’D...

Little Ox Daydreams During His Marginally More Than Minimum Wage Day Job As An Insurance Adjuster’s Assistant’s Assistant Adjuster About His Possible Future After Hopefully Several Promotions And A Substantial Raise and After He Finally Gets Rid of His Acne and His Stutter So He Can Maybe One Day Get The Confidence To Go Out To a Bar or Nighttime Club And Find A Wife
Little Ox Often thought Of building his own apricot It’d be a grand sight to see Dangling from A summer tree:
Two bedrooms Plus a master bath A backyard with a garden path Wifi in the living room A closet For the kitchen broom
A double-bolted double-door A lever laser-grids the floor Alarms insured by ADT A moat (For more security)
The neighborhood Is really nice An octopus, a couple mice A little park Where hippos play And chase their afternoons away
(One unlucky apricot Had been foreclosed And then forgot And then resold through Section 8 To bandicoots and reprobates)
But that was like Way way down there At Valley Ridge and Preston Square So yes this was The perfect spot For Ox to build his apricot
