what we know.
In November of 1971, someone calling themselves Dan Cooper hijacked Flight 305 from Portland, OR to Seattle, WA.
DB Cooper slipped the flight attendent a note, written in all caps with a felt-tip pen: "Miss -- I have a bomb in my briefcase and want you to sit by me". He showed her what appeared to be dynamite, then asked for $200,000 and four parachutes.
Once these demands were met, Cooper let passengers disembark in Seattle. He requested the plane be refuelled and redirected to Mexico City, with another stop for fuel in Reno, Nevada.
Shortly after takeoff, over remote Washington forest, the aft door was opened and the airstair was deployed. Nobody saw him jump from the aircraft, and the radar did not detect a deployed parachute. When the crew next checked in Nevada, DB Cooper had disappeared.
In 1980, $5,800 of the ransom money was found on the riverbanks of the Colombia River by Vancouver. In 2009, researchers found particles of rare metals on his tie.
The remaining money was never uncovered. DB Cooper was never found.
