Golden braids. I'm constantly in awe of these glacial rivers. They snake through the valley, bringing with them silt and ash trapped ages ago in the ice. These sediments eventually make their way out to the ocean where they mix with the ocean water creating brilliant patterns of color. This weekend it will rain heavily and the rivers will change again. Some paths will remain, but others may be totally altered and replaced by the rush of a rainfall. Serene Mornings. I live for these moments of unbelievable silence. The mornings have been especially calm lately and a few days ago I experienced a surreal sunrise in which it felt like I was the only human alive. Here I was on the ring road, driving through one of the busiest stretches in dense fog... I was the only car. I pulled over to a group of horses in a field shrouded in fog and as the sun began to rise over the mountains they began to run. Power of the glacier. Over the course of a great many years canyons like this one in South Iceland are created by erosion by glacial runoff waters. The landscape is molded by the glacier... the true ruler of this land. #Ísland #Iceland (at Iceland)

Glacial scale. The sheer size of a glacial outlet is difficult to truly comprehend. Each slab of ice in this outlet flow is at least the length of a bus and the icebergs in the lagoon the size of small homes. Woah. #Ísland #Iceland (at Iceland)

Mist in the south. It's not uncommon to have a string of days with total cloud cover and sporadic light rain in the south... The colors right after a short rainfall are very vibrant and the tones on days like this one in Vík are ideal. 👌 ☔️📷 #Ísland #iceland (at Vík)

Anniversary. One year ago today I landed in Ísland for the first time. Everything changed that day. I was overwhelmed by this place and I still have the feeling one year later... Iceland is like that. It never ceases to amaze or surprise... And inspire. Takk, Ísland. (at Iceland)

Glacial runoff. Got to Þórsmörk in time for the sunrise this morning. The power of the rivers running out of the valley is intense. And they're still ramping up. A road might lead to anywhere. Today is the last day of a trip with my good friend, Nehir! It's been amazing and I wish she didn't have to leave. This phrase about roads has gotten me thinking about my travels in general lately...
