Attacks on trans kids hurts inclusive democracy. The people attacking trans kids do not want an inclusive democracy.

The same people attacking trans kids are the people taking away Medicaid from people with disabilities. The same people attacking trans kids are the people taking away Black representation in Congress. Disability community organizations need to say "no more" to attacks on trans kids.

Disability Communities Defending Democracy is hiring!

Disability Communities Defending Democracy (DCDD) is a new organization, founded in 2025. DCDD works to defend and grow inclusive democracy. We work to help disability communities get the skills they need to promote inclusive democracy. This also means we help disability communities work against anti-democracy movements. Anti-democracy movements want to make democracy less inclusive or get rid of democracy. Anti-democracy movements want to make disability community spaces less inclusive. We do our work through education, information and resource referral, community partnerships, and other kinds of support to disability communities.

Compensation: $40,000/year ($38.46 per hour). Inclusive Democracy Advocate is a non-exempt (hourly) position. DCDD wants to offer more hours if funding increases.

Hours: 20 hours per week.

Benefits: $500 per month benefits stipend

Time off: 40 hours (two weeks) of paid time off, 40 hours of sick time, and five floating holidays. DCDD is also closed for New Years Day, MLK Jr. Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day After Thanksgiving, and December 24th-31st.

Location: fully remote (with travel). Candidate must live in or move to the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or Montana) within three months of hiring.

Disability and the Far Right: Joan Braune interviews Esther Warwick

Esther Warwick discusses the relationship between disability movements and the far right, and how eugenics has influenced laws that harm peo

Warwick: I think in terms of trends in fascism, it’s really important to understand that we were in this moment ten years ago, where there were a lot of heterogeneous views on disability on the right. That’s where I started with my project, explaining all the different ways that the right viewed people with disabilities. But this all really coalesced in the Biden era, towards outright hatred of people with disabilities, and towards identifying disability with the left and identifying disability as an enemy within the country that it was necessary to eliminate. Now this has been challenged a little bit by the inclusion of the MAHA movement, RFK Jr., and his weird crowd of anti-vaxxers in the Trump administration. We’ll see how that affects policy and rhetoric. But overwhelmingly the right’s rhetoric has turned towards outright hatred and hostility towards people with disabilities and glee at being able to say the r-slur, for example, and adopting a complete “we should just kill them” sort of idea, or that people with disabilities are dangerous. So, it’s very similar to how they talk about unhoused people, which has always been intimately tied with discourses on disability.
