Last Weekend at the Beach

For my last weekend at the beach for the season, I kept things casual and made the most of a cloudy weekend with a little window shopping and walk around town.  This “new” thrifted dress has quickly become a new favorite and I just can’t get enough of this new bag!  I mean, can you believe it’s from Old Navy?!  The color and quality are amazing and it is the perfect bag to make the transition from summer to fall.

Girls’ Night Out

I know this probably doesn’t look like your usual “girls’ night out” outfit, but since becoming an Aunt (twice!) nights out in general have been few and far between.  While this girls’ night out was definitely not a wild night on the town, just a quiet dinner, it was especially fun because our new little friend came with us!  She was so good and she even wore her own thrifted dress!  A present from her Aunt Sally, of course. 💕

A Day At The Beach

It’s kind of funny that I titled this post “A Day At The Beach” because the weather hasn’t really been cooperating enough to be able to spend a day on the beach lately.  Fortunately though, it decided to cooperate just in time for an early evening photo shoot in my fave new comfy dress.  Seriously, this dress is the best.  I bought it and immediately came home and popped it on.  Not only is the swingy shape perfect for hot summer nights, but the fabric is so soft!  While I don’t make all of my fashion decisions based on comfort, this one is so comfy it’s a total no-brainer.  

P.S. Seriously, how beautiful does this beach look?!  Fingers crossed for a nice beach day tomorrow!

I have to admit it, in the summer I am all. about. comfort.  Each year I pack for my summer at the beach and bring all sorts of cute clothes that I plan to wear, but never end up wearing.  In the heat and humidity I just keep reaching for the same breathable fabrics and loose silhouettes...and that’s exactly why I love these shorts!  While I’m usually more of a dresses kind of girl, with shorts this comfy I’m willing to switch things up! :)

Marathon Mondays

Well, marathon training season has officially begun!  After much convincing, my sister has agreed to run the Marine Corps Marathon with me one more time, and we have already successfully completed the first three weeks of training.  Despite the heat and humidity (and the fact that running and I took a loooong break after my first pass at the Marine Corps Marathon) training is going well!  I might be singing a different tune after I have to run 9 miles next weekend, but for now I’m pretty happy with the progress I’m making so far.  After all, slow and steady wins the race, right?  Check out the breakdown for the first three weeks of training below.

Week #1:

Okay, so I didn’t quite meet my goal of three posts per week this week, but I’m still getting back into the swing of things, I’ll get there!  At least I’m back with another outfit post!  While it might seem as though this outfit is a sponsored post for Old Navy, it isn’t.  I just love Old Navy!  It’s always one of my first stops when the seasons change and I need to stock up on some cute essentials.  While I wouldn’t really call a white linen flutter sleeve sundress an essential, I would definitely call it cute! :)

Happy 4th of July and welcome back to D.C. Diva on a Dime!!  I’ve missed posting lately, but life has been VERY exciting!!  The school year has ended, I finished my first year of grad school, I started training to run the Marine Corps Marathon a second time, and I became an Aunt...TWICE!!  That’s right, I have TWO new babies in my life!  A little boy (my brother’s baby) and a little girl (my sister’s baby).  If you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen some pretty adorable snaps of these two, and you will definitely be seeing many more in the future!! 

Since this summer is sure to be a little different given my new duties as an Aunt, I’ll probably be posting about 3 times a week.  Marathon Mondays on Monday, a new outfit post on Wednesday, and Friday Favorites on Friday (and maybe I’ll throw in a Thrifty Thursdays if the mood strikes!)  Hey, if I can pull that off it will already be more than I posted this year! 🙈  I missed Marathon Mondays this week, but I promise to get you all caught up next week.  For now, enjoy my white and blue 4th of July ensemble.  And check Instagram tomorrow for a peek at how I added at least a little red to this look!

Well, here we finally have it.  My last post from spring break...two months ago!! 😂  I don’t know where this year went, but now I’m only 3.5 weeks away from summer break!  Before we both know it, I’ll be back at the beach posting more warm weather looks in the sand.  But until then, and until this rainy weather clears out, I’ll just keep looking back at these pictures and feeling nice and warm. 😎

Let me tell you something, this dress is perfect for vacation!  Especially a vacation to a Southern beach town where the primary food group is fried.  Not only is this dress super flowy and comfortable, but the vibrant print and interesting shape keep it from looking like, well, a moo moo.  While I’m not usually a fan of the handkerchief hem in general, there was something about this one that just appealed to me.  This dress will definitely be in heavy rotation this summer!

You know what’s not fun?  Coming home from a nice warm spring break in Georgia to freezing cold spring temperatures in D.C.  I mean, we had SNOW on Saturday!  I am seriously shivering as I write this post.  Despite the unfortunate weather here at home, I do love reliving the trip as I edit my pictures.  Especially since I got to wear this super cute Old Navy dress precisely ONCE before it completely shrunk in the wash!  Be careful if you buy it, I followed the care instructions exactly and it still shrunk.  I see a return trip to Old Navy in my future...

If there is one thing that all teachers dream about it’s SPRING. BREAK.  Nothing feels quite as long as the stretch of time between January and June, so by the time spring break rolls around it is so necessary!!  I was lucky enough to spend my spring break in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia at the King and Prince Resort.  While I came back with less of a tan and more of a sunburn than I would have liked, it was the perfect getaway from the blustery winds and variable temperatures of D.C.  I’d like to say that I’m heading back to work totally rested and rejuvenated...but that would be lying. :)  At least I got some fun in the sun!

Okay, so there weren’t really raindrops falling on my head during this shoot.  Not only did I have this huge umbrella, but...it had also stopped raining...  Hey, I love a good prop, it’s the musical theatre influence! :)  While I know the recent rainy days will help make it a beautiful spring, I am totally OVER the cold weather.  Here’s hoping this is my last post in tights!

So I know I’m a little late to the party, but I have recently become obsessed with the idea of doing a gallery wall in my apartment.  While I love the look of them, I’ve avoided them until now because they’re a bit trendy for my taste...o of course I had to think of my own special twist!  Instead of doing a typical gallery wall with just a mix of different pictures and other graphics, I’m going to do a jewelry gallery wall.  It makes perfect sense!  I hate when my statement necklaces get all tangled up, it will encourage me to wear necklaces that are usually “out of sight out of mind”, and it’s my own unique take on a very popular trend!  I couldn’t find any pictures on Pinterest of exactly what I want so I’m kind of flying blind.  In the meantime, these are some of the favorites I’ve found.  Stay tuned to see how it all goes!

Okay, it’s safe to say that I am obsessed with these t-shirt dresses from Amazon.  Not only are they sooo comfy and the perfect layering piece for winter or spring, but the fit model for the company is none other than Lala from Vanderpump Rules!!  Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I found a scarf in my closet that matches perfectly.  Color blocking for the win!

So, I’m just going to say it...I was totally underwhelmed by the fashion at this year’s Oscars!  I mean, come on, where was the big red carpet moment I was waiting for?  In fact, where were the red carpet moments in general?  Is it just me or were all of the big stars so late that they skipped the red carpet interviews altogether?  Is there a new station other than E! that I should be tuning in to?  Because the E! pre-show was totally boring this year.  Sorry, but it’s true!  Despite being a bit disappointed with the fashions this year, these were my favorites of the night.  While I am a bit on the fence about some of these *ahem* Cate Blanchett *ahem* Saoirse Ronan *ahem*, I loved Daisy Ridley in Chanel and Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton.  While I wasn’t totally sure about Alicia Vikander’s bubble hem at first, I changed my mind once I got a full-length view of the dress.  So vintage inspired!  So 1950′s!  One of my favorite looks of the night!  While I was totally won over by “dusty yellow” Louis Vuitton, I’m still a little conflicted about Brie Larson’s look.  I love the color and she looked BEAUTIFUL, but the overall look is maybe a little prom for me...  It did look great with her new accessory thought! :)
