so ive been informed through recent reblogs that a super old picture of mine was apparently super popular and used constantly on megalovania remixes and otherwise passed around the internet without credit.

here’s the thing: dear god i fuckin hate that picture. it was just a quick response to an ask. i hated it like two days after i made it. i am taking psychic damage learning that people saw that fuckin’ picture everywhere.

anyway long story short it’s about six years too late but i redrew it. please retroactively steal this one instead.

Well you see, the Gorilla became a meme. Rest In Peace Harambe, you glorious beast, harambe stayed in our memory so much so that the next year, during the 2016 United States Presidential Election, many people spoiled their ballet by writing Harambe on it as their vote for president. These spoiled votes contributed to Donald Trump winning the presidency (despite haveing less total votes than H. Clinton)

Trump then spent the next four years of his presidency cutting funding to the CDC and eroding international relations with... well everyone.

Then in December 2019 China announced that a new Corona virus had emerged in the Wuhan province named Covid-19 that attacked the respiratory system. This virus was extremely contagious and although had fairly low lethality rate for the healthy it proved very dangerous to the elderly and those with weakened immune and/or respiratory systems.

So up until late February, North America seemed safe from the scary Covid-19. There were outbreaks and mass quarantines in Southeast Asia and Europe, notably Italy. But then it started showing up in North America. And American media did what it does best and whipped up a panic. And as a result people started hoarding things. Some just in preparation of a few weeks in self quarantine not leaving home unless absolutely necessary, but some saw this panic of the impending pandemic as an opportunity to make money, so some select douchbags started buying up as much, what they deemed essential, commodities with the plan to resell them at extortionist prices. Toilet paper was one such commodity. So starting in the month of March, toilet paper became something nearly impossible to find in stores because a few douchbags would buy out entire stores stock moments after they opened and then try to sell it at 3 times the price in the parking lot.

the unfortunate truth about drawing scales is that they never really get less annoying to do and getting better at them only means you get to draw more complicated ones

the way they generally work for me is i tend to follow a pattern of larger, flatter scales following the tops of arms and leg surrounded by smaller, rounded support scales - i try to use a lighter touch on the pen pressure while filling in the scales so the outlines end up more distinctive

this works basically the same for the head!

for the longer stretches of body i tend to use the interlocking u’s, starting with one row on the widest part of the body and building downwards

copying and pasting isnt a perfect shortcut, especially if you have a lot of curves, but it DOES save a chunk of time

they dont have to be perfect!! honestly the hardest part is getting them to be even, and that just takes a lot of practice. remember that theyll fold in a bit as they get closer to the edge of the body if you can manage it ( which is hard ) - the closer the thinner, which helps give the illusion of curving. uhhh hope this helps

Thinking I need to make them PERFECT is what trips me up on scales, fur and feathers but then you show that the individual scales can be inconsistent sizes and the pattern get “broken” as needed and it not only still looks good, it looks better and more lifelike than if the pattern is mathematically precise head to toe!!
