   he had to shift many things to accommodate himself to breathing water and surviving at such depths,  his ears needing similar help just so whatever sounds came his way wouldn’t be garbled and muted.    only due to that was he able to hear the chirps of the dolphins as they swam towards them,  smiling back to her when they came into view.

a laugh escaped as the marine mammals swam around them,  reaching out hesitantly to run his fingers along the surface.    he’d been to the ocean many times before and had been close to the life,  but not this up close and personal.    eel caught her signing and and nodded.    “    they’re pretty neat.    never been so close to them before.    ”

watching eel’s reaction excites her , happy he is amused by the playful demeanor of her aquatic friends .     she wonders what other great things she can show him in the ocean .     in the meantime however , the dolphins continue to encircle them .     she waves to catch eel’s attention and shows him a trick .     dolphin had not only learned to communicate with her aquatic friends , but also train them .  she gently rubs beneath the dolphin’s snout and in a brief moment it rolls , exposing it’s belly where dolphin gently pats before it rolls back around .     the ones she knew were quite friendly , at least to her and someone she may trust .     she suggests for eel to try , as the one near him would likely comply to the gesture .

       strange how she didn’t recall dolphin being mute when they last met, of course they didn’t actually meet face to face before and it was all too brief. how fitting they would meet at a beach the one time kate had decided to take a break out of gotham. it’s interesting for her to work out the context of dolphin’s gestures and applying meaning, like a little brain teaser keeping her mind sharp.

       “looks like they’re done – want to try playing one v one?”

her head bobbles in a nod , she is ready to try this sport for the first time .     it appeared relatively easy and without any complicating rules .     since one of them need to be on opposing side of the net , dolphin picks a side at random .     adrenaline already begins to kick in , in anticipation of the game starting and the feeling of doing something entirely unknown to her .

(     i’m caught up on replies     ( i think )     so i am down to pick up a few more threads / like this to plot or have me write you up something .     if we already have a thing i might do an ask instead .     i want to try to reach out to those whom i do not have threads with .     )

           speed underwater as the atlanteans swam was something eel would never figure out.    no matter what he did to his body,  he couldn’t go as fast as either her or arthur without shifting his bottom half to be some sort of machine.    which was what he had to do just to keep up with her,  his bottom half now representing a propeller as he sped through.    still,  he was’t as fast as her.

when he saw a glow in the distance,  he was able to catch up to where she was,  smiling as they were finally next to each other.    eel slowed down and shifted his legs back to their normal form as they advanced,  brows furrowing for a moment when she tapped on her wrist before he nodded.    what would they be waiting for??

shapes lurk in the distance as shadows , and with eagerness dolphin shares a faint smile in eel’s direction .     a chipper assortment of sounds resonate closer , playful creatures of the ocean equally excited to meet their atlantian friend     (     as well as her company     ) .     pointing into the distance , the forms of a few bottle-nose dolphins come into view . to surprise them both however , two , catch the friends off guard .     a body wraps around dolphin whilst she receives a friendly nudge .     her dolphin friends take to any interaction with excitement , finding eel no stranger to these waters .     with a pat to her chest she then signs to eel     ‘ these are my friends , they like you . ‘

    a nod, accompanied with a little smile. while not terribly into watching sport usually, though with the right company she finds most things entertaining. luckily there’s space for the two of them close by the game, a small rise wall just tall enough to let her feet hover above the sand.

     Kate noted the atlantian’s watchful gaze on the players, learning. of course, it mustn’t be a thing in the underwater world - there must be many things Dolphin wouldn’t have seen much of before. “following the rules of the game okay?”

between atlantis and the surface , dolphin assumed recreational activities were a common similarity . . . just not in the sense their games were similar in the way they were played .     being submerged certainly made the playing field different .     none-the-less , watching the teams play did help dolphin learn the basic structure in understanding the mechanics . a timid but distinctly positive reply comes with the bobble of her head .     her subtle hand gestures speak of how amazed she finds the athletes .

“  WE CAN MAKE A DAY OF IT!   A little introduction to surface life; get you ice cream, take a walk on the pier and of course a supervised test ride of a jet ski.   “    Will people stare at the girl with scales covering her limbs? Yes, that’s unavoidable, and he’ll have to prepare her for that, even in Atlantis some people look disapprovingly at mutants, those who just follow the natural evolution towards adapting to life in the ocean, and on the surface it will be even more of an oddity. However at least Amnesty Bay knows who one of their most famous resident is and a lot of them are mindful enough to respect his privacy.

His arms wrap around her without hesitation, even if the gesture comes with a slight surprise, he understands Dolphin’s joy and excitement, glad to give her something new, something to get involved with.

a day of adventure on the surface did sound fun and interesting despite her sense of intimidation .     furthermore , it was kind of arthur to offer setting the time aside     (     in order to help her feel more acquainted     )     and treat her to a day .     though surface dwellers were familiar with an atlantian such as arthur , it concerned her that she was too different . the embrace helps to ease her concerns , for the moment .     tired of feeling alone, BEING alone , there is hope she will be able to make friends with some of the surface dwellers arthur may know .     withdrawing , dolphin tilts her head whilst rolling her eyes in thought .     a shrug later , bright blues glance at arthur     ‘ . . . what day ? ‘     her expression reads , eager to know .

      “awesome,” she had a feeling that this would be fun. it’s been too long since she actually spent time with someone that doesn’t involve fighting crime or the like, hanging out on the beach with an atlantean and playing one-on-one volley ball? a remarkable change of pace.

       “Kate, by the way.” pointing at herself, not sure if the girl realises who she is outside of the batwoman uniform. “and you’re Dolphin right?”

kate , that was right .     a subtle simper pulls ‘pon the corner of her lip .     dolphin did not participate much in socializing with the land folk , she found the stares uncomfortable     (     along with the lack of communication     ) .     nodding when the vigilante presumed correctly , it felt nice to be recalled . noticing she stands at similar height to the redhead , if dolphin can learn to play this game well , they may eventually match each other .     to better learn , dolphin suggests with the motion of her digits they finish watching the game already being played .

    it took a moment but she was able to put together what Dolphin had been saying with her gestures. “i played a few times in college. just for fun though, i doubt i was actually any good by those guys standards.” looking over at the team playing she could tell she wasn’t as good a player as they.

      returning her attention to the younger girl again she offered a little smile, “would you like to play a one on one game when they’re done? could be fun.”

compared to herself , dolphin assumed that the red-head was far more talented at the sport than she .     spending years alone , that type of teamwork setting did not come naturally to her .     but a one on one match seemed feasible , even if dolphin was not confident in her ability .  her shoulders shrug , hand lifting to silver tress and giving her hair a ruffle .     this would be one of those instances arthur would likely encourage her to interact with others .     why not a familiar face ?     with a nod , dolphin complies to accepting the challenge .     it would be nice to have a fun experience with another person .

the surface is a bustling place .     sensitive to most of the elements around her , dolphin adapts .     hot pavement , practical footwear , and the mutation to appear human ; the latter is not an element she is sensitive to . . . merely a sensation she is unaccustomed .      a displeased grimace tugs ‘pon the corner of her lip when it dawns on her that the she must now tread on concrete over the sandy beaches .     the heat of the sidewalk had burnt the bottom of one foot ; dropping the flip flops carried in hand , she slips on the footwear to protect her feet . her toes wiggle , the odd feeling of a strap wedged betwixt her toes .     pondering briefly how people wear such oddities , dolphin peers upward and heads toward the restaurant not far from her location .     it is when she arrives that she must communicate to another individual , that she is meeting someone     (     assuming they had arrived before her     ) .
