Descendants Love Potion Double Chocolate Walnut Cookies Recipe
In the first Descendants movie, Mal and the rest of the evil exchange crew bake cookies that act as a love potion to get Prince Ben to fall in love with her, all with the goal of stealing the Fairy God Mothers magic wand. This magical spell works, and eventually the two fall in actual love, even after the potion is washed away from a dip in the enchanted river. This recipe uses two different types of chocolate chips to give the cookies their infamous "double chocolate chip" name, along with browned butter and walnuts for that delicious "nutty" quality that Ben loves so much. The browned butter will work if you want to exclude the nuts due to allergies as well. Can't forget the brown sugar, which keeps them chewy. The whole recipe is rounded out with the important inclusion of one human tear of sadness, which this recipe will not include. Sorry. I use salted butter to mimic the saltiness that would come with including human tears into a cookie recipe!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups brown sugar
3 sticks salted butter
4 eggs
1 TBSP vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
3 cups flour
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
Melt 2 sticks of butter in a saucepan until it browns and caramelizes. Add in the final stick of butter and stir until fully melted. Let cool and transfer to a large bowl.
Cream butter and sugars together for about 5 minutes, until fully combined and ribbons form.
Add eggs and vanilla and mix until pale in color.
Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt into the wet mixture. Fold until barely combined. Then mix in chocolate chips and walnuts.
Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes at minimum, or overnight for a more developed flavor.
Measure 2 TBSP of cookie dough and and place on a parchment lined baking sheet with a 2 inch space in between each ball. Bake at 350°F oven for 8-10 minutes.
Let sit on the baking pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to let cool.
Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off Purple Barbecue Sauce Recipe
During an extremely awesome food fight in Home Economics class, a dubious looking bowl of purple sauce is created by all the ingredients the students flung across the room at each other. This purple sauce, apparently, is really good! And it kinda tastes like barbecue sauce for some inexplicable reason. I combined 3 different BBQ recipes together to try and construct the best tasting and looking purple sauce that would live up to the hype of the movie. The main base of the sauce is a recipe created by Jose El Cook on YouTube. I got the inspiration to use ube powder from The Starving Chef's blog, where they recreated Eddie's incredible editable BBQ sauce as well! Finally, I learnt about the existence of blueberry BBQ sauce from the blog My Quite Kitchen, and included that in my recipe to enhance the purple color and add a nice fruity sweetness to balance out the ube and acidity. No food color is necessary, but if you really want that sauce to be neon, then go right for it!
Ingredients:
1 cup ketchup
2 TBSP brown sugar
2 TBSP ube powder
1 TBSP soy sauce
1 TBSP worchestershire sauce
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
2 cups fresh blueberries (if frozen let thaw)
optional: 2 drops of blue food coloring
Instructions:
Add all ingredients into a saucepan and stir to fully combine.
Place on the stove and set to a medium high heat. Once at a light simmer, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let cook for 20 minutes.
Let cool partially and blend until smooth, either in a blender or with an immersion blender in the pot (if you like chunks then you can either mash the berries up or just leave as is).
Serve hot or let chill in the fridge and enjoy!
Gotta Kick it Up! Fundraiser Roadside Grilled Chicken Recipe
Gotta Kick it Up! is probably one of my favorite DCOMs from the early Zoog era. There's a wonderful warmth and coziness in this film that really invigorates the audience in a wonderful way. This chicken will do the same! During a scene where the girls dance team we follow are fundraising to afford new uniforms and a bus ride to the final competition, they sell pretty much anything they can at a block party to get enough money. They sell bouquets of flowers, piñatas, and BBQ foods that looks absolutely amazing. This Mexican Roadside Chicken recipe is inspired by the Rick Bayless recipe in his book Mexican Everyday, and I paired it with elote and Spanish rice for an amazing summer dinner that I would say is even dinner party ready (as long as I don't burn one of the chickens too much like I did when cooking them this time).
Ingredients:
one large chicken broken down into pieces
1 1/2 tsp chile powder
1 tsp ground Mexican oregano
A pinch of ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3 TBSP apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
1 tsp salt
Instructions:
Break down chicken into breasts, leg quarters, wings, etc.
Combine all ingredients into a gallon plastic bag and mix until fully combined. Let chicken marinate for 1-3 hours in the fridge.
Preheat grill to 350 degrees F and cook chicken on indirect heat for 20 minutes, flipping half way. Then place chicken on the direct flame and baste the chicken with the leftover marinate liquid for another 5-10 minutes, until a nice char has formed.
Drakgo nacos with @bcbdrums tonight 👀 10/10 do recommend
Alright, someone needs to issue a definitive ruling on what The Naco actually is. Ron Stoppable's invention debuts in "Bueno Nacho" and eventually makes him a millionaire. He describes it as "taco meets nacho" and he clearly invents it by wrapping an order of nachos in a giant tortilla.
Bueno Nacho adds it to the menu at some point and the recipe is modified a bit (lettuce and tomato were not part of the original creation). The real question is how to approximate the food that was clearly not meant for actual human consumption in real life.
Fun fact, while recipes would make sense as a "useful article" and therefore should be protected by patent law, they aren't considered novel and have to be protected by copyright or trade secret law. That actually benefits Ron, who I am sure never registered with the Patent and Trademark Office.
Babish had to try it twice (first here and then here). He had to redo it because he didn't include bright yellow queso or ground beef . . . and I think that's right. Both are things integral to the platonic ideal of a Naco.
Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano made Nacos together too. I think they basically get pretty close. Theirs are shaped like tacos and not dripping, but close.
I think if you're actually trying to capture what eating a Naco is about (based on the show), there are a few notes you have to hit:
It needs to crunch when you eat it.
It needs to be basically dripping with grease and cheese.
It somewhat needs to be shaped like a bindle.
All that said, I do think there is a Naco approximation readily available for anyone -- and that's the Crunchwrap at Taco Bell. Though not shaped like a bowl, it's basically taco filling in a tortilla with a tostada for the crunch.
Additional Fun Fact: Taco Bell used to have menu items that people approximated even closer to the Naco that were discontinued.
The thing Ron makes just isn't wieldy enough, tasty enough, or worth it to attempt to try and make an approximation of it in real life. So make a Crunchwrap instead, use Joshua Weissman's recipe (don't waste any of your life eating at an actual Taco Bell), and replace the tostada with tortilla chips, because who has the time?
My friend and I made them last summer (Drakgo nacos - green tortilla, blue chips) and we essentially just made burritos with chips. It will forever bother me that we can’t accurately reproduce the shape that Ron does, but I agree with you wholeheartedly about the crunch wrap!
Horse Sense 4 A.M. Country Style Breakfast Recipe
This classic horse-farm-drama movie starring 2 Lawrence brothers depicts a fun and silly scene where Tommy misleads his stuck-up cousin Michael by putting him in front of the TV at night, instead of warning him that they all wake up to get ready for work at 4 in the morning. Tommy's mom cooks up a very traditional looking American style breakfast, although I'd argue most people would actually make and eat around half of what is served up instead of having all of these breakfast foods at once. Then again, most people are not farmers who have a long day of hard labor ahead of them, so there you go. This is a lot of food with a lot of work that will feed around 8 people, depending on how large your serving sizes are, and since this is farm cooking, everything is going to be made from scratch! I got the inspiration for the pancake recipe from the blog Bigger Bolder Baking, and the rest is from my own experience and tastes for breakfast, along with my dad's very efficient hash brown recipe that may shock many on just how easy it is. To make this delicious meal fully authentic, you may need to wake up at 4 am to make it taste just as good. I don't make the rules I just follow them.
Ingredients for pancakes:
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
3 TBSP sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk (I made my own by combining milk with a few teaspoons of vinegar)
4 TBSP oil or melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 stick salted butter, for cooking
maple syrup, for serving
Ingredients for the rest of the meal:
1 lbs. bacon
1 lbs. sausage links
4 russet potatoes
seasonings, to taste
8 eggs for frying (may vary on how many eggs each person will want)
Instructions for pancakes:
Combine all of the dry ingredients together in a medium sized bowl. Whisk all wet ingredients together in a measuring cup and add to the dry ingredients. Stir until just fully combined, and make sure not to over-mix, which will help keep the pancakes fluffy. Lumps are fine and normal.
Heat up a large skillet to medium high heat. Add a 1/2 tablespoon of butter to the pan and let melt. Use a ladle or large spoon to pour the batter into the pan to your desired pancake size. The sizes of your pancakes will determine how many you get in the end.
Once bubbles start to form on the surface of the batter and the edges start to set, use a spatula to flip the pancake over carefully to avoid knocking air bubbles out. The temperature will change the color of your pancake, so adjust the heat to avoid undercooking or burning (unless you like that, lol).
Once the pancake is fully cooked, place on a plate and add a 1/4-1/2 tablespoon of butter on top of the pancake.
Repeat until all the batter is gone or you give up on cooking pancakes. Serve with maple syrup and/or more butter.
Instructions for the rest of the meal:
Rinse/peel russet potatoes (I personally like some skin left on my potatoes, but peel them however you desire).
Heat a large pan to a medium high temp, adding a few tablespoons or oil/butter once hot. Using a box grater, grate the potatoes directly into the pan and oil. Once done grating, stir the potatoes to fully coat in the oil and season to taste (I like salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder personally).
Reduce to a low heat and cover. Cook for around 10 minutes, or until potatoes are soft. After a few minutes the potatoes will turn a golden brown color and will be ready to flip. Use a spatula to flip, or toss them in the pan if you have the skills to do so. Once finished cooking keep warm.
Place bacon into another large pan cold. Then cook on low/medium heat until fully cooked. This cooking method will help make the bacon crispy. Remove from pan and place on paper towels to drain excess grease.
Heat up a medium large pan and cook sausage links until done. Keep both meets warm while preparing everything else.
In a medium pan heat up oil at a high temp (if you want these eggs to be truly country style, you can use the bacon grease to fry the eggs). Crack an egg into the oil and let fry until the whites are fully set, using a spatula to splash the oil onto the tops of the eggs to make them sunny side up. Once cooked, immediately transfer to a plate to cool. Top with salt and pepper if desired.
To fully plate up your meal, get your desired amount of eggs, bacon, sausage, and hash browns onto one plate, then your desired amount of pancakes on another. Enjoy with coffee and orange juice, then prepare to do your dangerous job of moving piles of manure around all day!
