“Alright, alright. I trust you and I don’t trust many people so easily so you should consider yourself lucky.” Anya teased the other, knowing that it wasn’t like this was anything big, just a matter of food and what tasted good. But this woman seemed to love it so she was more then willing to try. “If we ever get out Canada, I’d love to give you one. I’ll even take you by the palace. If it’s still there in this time.”

Those words made Doreen grin like she hadn’t before, “Yay! I’m honored. Super duper honored.” When Anya seemed to be okay with giving her a little tour, Doreen squirmed a little in her chair out of excitement, “That sounds incredible. I’ll take it. It’s not nearly as impressive, but I could give you a tour around New York in exchange?”

“Yeah. If I still had my magic, I’d have apparated out of here by now. Perhaps after a little bit of exploring but I wouldn’t be here still,” Hermione replied. Her curiosity could get the best of her sometimes. If she’d just landed in Wintervale after apparating instead of waking up, she might have explored a little before realizing she didn’t have her magic, “Sort of? What do you mean by sort of?”

“Makes sense. I had a good luck around this place myself,” Doreen replied, knowing well that she was a mixture of curious and just plain ol’ nosy. At the girl’s next question, she sighed a little. As much as she loved who she was and her powers, people always laughed when they heard about what she could really do. Little did they know she was one of the most powerful superheroes. How many could say they’d defeated Thanos on their own? She definitely could. “Well you don’t look like a master super villain so I’m pretty sure I can tell you -- I’ve got most of the abilities of a squirrel. I can communicate with them too. But mainly I’m very agile, quick. I also normally have a giant fluffy tail -- but this place took that away too.”

“I don’t know how I would manage a year.” But she knew that if she had to, she would find a way. It was important to her to stay logical and calm if she ever intended to get back to her father. “I wish I knew how to get us all back. It wouldn’t be so bad if I had my father here… or someone… Mrs Potts or Lumiere perhaps…” Anyone who could make her feel a little less lost and alone. She just wanted some connection to the world she knew.

“I don’t think I could either. Have you seen me? I’m a ball of uncontainable energy -- I’ll sooner die here than make it,” Doreen expressed, making sure to emphasize everything with unnecessary quick hand gestures. “Miss Potts? Lumiere?” she picked up, unable to help but laugh a little, “They sound like characters from this Disney movie. Come to think of it, you even sort of look like the princess in the movie. That’s funny,” she observed, not even considering that that could actually be the case. It was an animated movie, not reality. “I know what you mean though. I miss my friends and family too. And my squirrel Tippy Toe,” Doreen sighed dramatically. She missed that little rodent so much she could never really put it into words. “I guess for now all we can do is support one another. That’s the most we can do to make it easier to get through this. Doing it alone is hard, but doing it with others is easier to balance.”

“I think I have probably been here around three weeks.” It was hard to tell in some ways because she felt like it had been too long already. She’d had to get used to the place alone and honestly, she wanted to go back home even if it did mean a room in a castle she was made a prisoner of. At least in that world her father existed.

“That’s not too bad. I’ve heard some people have been here for like a year or over. Now that’s plain crazy, wouldn’t you say so?” Doreen commented, obviously not too happy about that news. “Like as great and totally chill as this place is -- I want to get home eventually. I miss home. I can not live here for another eleven months.”

“I suppose we should.” Belle agreed after a moment, moving to let her horse go out onto the fields behind the cottage before coming to Doreen’s side. “How long have you been here for?”

“In Wintervale? Over a month by now,” she replied, having to think over it briefly to remember. Time passed by in a weird manner in Wintervale. Sometimes it seemed to go fast and other times it seemed to be very slow. “How about you?”

Belle nodded her head. “I certainly believe that.” She agreed and it was nice to think that the animal knew the right human for them too. “It sounds to me like a bunny would be perfect for you or maybe a kitten.”

“I’ll admit, those do sound quite nice,” Doreen replied, overjoyed at the thought that she would have a new animal to bring home today. “Guess we better get going to the shelter then, huh?”

Belle seemed to relax at that, a smile on her face at the thought because she’d be lying if she hadn’t considered bringing home a few of the animals herself. In fact she really wished she could have done. Helping out now and again was something she could do however. “What do you want to look for in an animal you are going to give a home to?”

“I mean a lot of people claim that the animal chooses its owner, especially in shelters,” Doreen began, realizing she was about to go on a ramble and stopping herself short. “Just something cute, furry and loving. I want to have a friend.”

There was a moment where Isabelle considered what the woman meant before she answered. “Well as long as you mean by adopting one at the store here then I don’t see the harm. It’ll be nice to see another animal get a loving home.”

“Oh of course! We’re going to a shelter,” Doreen nodded. She was the kind of girl that would take in every stray animal if she had the ability to provide for them all. “I want to rescue an animal,” she added, confirming her choice. “I just... don’t know what kind of animal. I love squirrels but those aren’t usually in shelters.”

Simon held his hands up in defence, letting out a mock sigh and relented, “Fine, I guess if you do become addicted to coins I will take the blame since I told you they glow.” Simon’s eyes lit up at her proclamation to loving Star Wars, finally he had found someone to share his love with and he wouldn’t have to force it onto Clary anymore. “You’d be surprised by how many people in my world hadn’t heard of Star Wars and then when I told them about it, they wouldn’t watch it.” He shook his head, though he had come to realise that Jace had watched them without him, which was the equivalent of being stabbed in the back if he was being honest. “I don’t know, it all depends if we have the force inside of us- I mean, would the force even work here? Is it a power or is it just something deep inside many of us, waiting to be awoken.” Simon thought about her words and nodded slowly, because he wasn’t sure reflection here would help fix the mess he made back home but he guessed it was worth a shot. “Yeah, maybe. I guess all we can do is wait and see.”

She grinned in triumph as he agreed to take the blame for introducing her to glowing coins. “People from where you’re from are absolutely crazy,” Doreen replied, unable to believe somebody wouldn’t know what Star Wars even was. “I... don’t know if the force would work here. As scary as that may sound. A lot of people who had any sort of powers or abilities don’t have that anymore here. It’s like this town has sucked us all of our past selves except our memories,” she mused with a little shrug. “Although regardless of if it exists here, I hope I have the force inside me – don’t you? How cool would it be?!” Doreen bounced on the balls of her feet briefly. “Maybe so. I hope there’s a way we can fix things soon. We can’t be stuck here forever, can we?”

“I would have never have thought the two would compliment one another, normally it’s sweet with sweet and savoury with savoury and never the two shall meet. Clearly a lot has changed. But you’re right, I won’t know until I’ve tried it.” Anya’s face scrunched up ever so slightly, “I don’t think Paris could ever lose it’s magic, it might not sparkle as brightly but find the right places and the magic will still be present.”

“You’ll definitely change your mind once you try it,” Doreen replied, obviously convinced everybody was bound to love the combination of sweet and salty. She couldn’t understand why somebody wouldn’t. “Oh? Well if we ever get out of Canada I’d love a tour,” she added with a kind smile.

“I was. But I don’t have my magic here unfortunately,” Hermione replied. She missed it and she wished she had it here. It could help her get home, “So you’re human then?” She paused, “I mean, that’s not what I meant. What I mean to say is, did you have any… supernatural abilities where you’re from?”

“That’s a total bummer, but it also explains why you’re still here when you’re obviously trying to get home,” she reasoned, everything making more sense. If Doreen originally had some sort of way to get out of here and suddenly didn’t have it anymore, she’d probably be as desperate for an answer as this brunette was. “Uh, sort of? Nothing that would help us get out of here though.”

“That game is the one you play when you need to find a way to tell someone you don’t want to be friends with them anymore. Or if you’re in a relationship that you want to break up.” Simon teased, though there was some truth to his words, the board game was the worst when it come to arguments between friends and families and it was almost like you were dealing with real prime property. “Yeah-.. Didn’t have much of a plan and it seemed to be a stable solution, but it was more like things changed in my life that caused me not to go down that route rather than me deciding it was a no go.” But she was right, he would be restless sat at a desk all day formulating numbers. “Hey, you can’t blame me for you addiction, that’s not how these things work. You’ve got to take the blame for your own actions, it’s the only way to make things better. You just have to accept your a glow coin hoarder and that’s okay.” He commented, placing a hand on her arm, happy to have this kind of conversation with someone. The amount of interaction he had since coming here had been rather slim and now, well now he found someone who could keep up to speed with him. Simon’s eyes widened when the other mentioned Star Wars, the grip he had on her arm tightening for a moment out of excitement. “You like Star Wars! And honestly if there were real life Jedi’s walking around here I don’t think I would be able to contain myself. It’d be like meeting your favourite celebrity. The same goes for Darth Vader, I think I’d be the only one who’d be smiling if he used a force choke on me.” Simon rambled before his expression became that little more solemn when she mentioned going home, “Yeah, things-.. well they weren’t great when I left and I really need to go back to fix them.”

“You’re figuring stuff out. There’s nothing wrong with that,” Doreen replied. She had moments where she was regretting everything and she was lost about what choices to make about her future. “Oh no, I don’t care about rules. You’re responsible for my future coin addiction and I’m not going to own up to it as my own fault. I’m stubborn like that,” she added with a playful huff. Doreen couldn’t help but laugh when he gripped at her arm all of a sudden, “Do I have a two eyes and a brain? Um of course I love Star Wars!” she gasped as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “Do you think we could be trained by Jedis if we caught any of ‘em? Sure lightsabers probably don’t work nor exist here, but perhaps they could teach us with like spears or something?” she mused, getting way too excited about the concept of that. “Same! Are we the same person? I’d get so excited to get force choked -- I just want the force to be so real!” Doreen agreed, almost squirming in place. “I understand that. I’m sure being here for a bit will help you clear your mind. Maybe even help figure out a way how to approach all those situations back home?”

“They’re one of your favourite combinations? How? They are two things that should not work together, salty and sweet sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.” Anya chuckled, because she hadn’t heard anything as crazy as someone dipping their fries into ice cream, bearing in mind she hadn’t tried the two until recently, but still. Anya held up her hands in defeat when the other insisted that she needed to try it before ordering a plate of fries, “Alright, alright, I’ll try it. I think it’s going to be gross, but I’ll try.” Because she was never one to turn down something new, whether it be an experience or an adventure. “I wouldn’t quite say dreamlike, St Petersburg was under communist rule, it was dreary and the only way people were getting through their day was by hanging on to a rumour that the Princess Anastasia survived the attack on the palace back in 1916. Paris on the other hand… Well Paris was like a dream, better than a dream, it had been all I had imagined and more.” Because it’s where she finally found out who she was, found her family, her Grandmother and where she had her realisation about Dmitri.” Anya hummed when the other asked which timing she preferred, “Both are so different, if I could be in Paris forever back in 1926 then I might have to say that, but I am loving 2018, I just wish I had the people I held close to me back home with me.”

“Oh trust me -- it’s no disaster. If anything it’s an epic one. Sweet and salty is the best combination even known to mankind and fries with ice cream is one of the first ones ever,” Doreen announced dramatically. She loved food. “You won’t know ‘til you try, right?” she added, glad to encourage the girl to try something new. Doreen listened to Anya reminiscing with a bright smile. They way she described all those places, Doreen almost felt as if she had been there with her. “I can understand that. I wonder if you’d like Paris in 2018. I hear it’s really turned into just a big ol’ tourist trap and it’s sort of lost its magic which is sort of a bummer.”

“I’m supposed to be the brightest which of my age, that’s what everyone tells me anyway. If I can’t figure this out then it would all be for nothing,” Hermione was more speaking to herself now. She was a know-it-all and maybe she was full of herself sometimes but she was also determined. She needed to get home. Not only would her friends be worried about her but the longer she stayed away from her parents with their memories erased, the harder it would probably be to restore them to themselves. She could not stay here. Hermione ignored the girl’s second comment - or perhaps she just didn’t hear it - as she turned the page of the book she was reading.

“Witch? Oh my god are you magical?” Doreen echoed, automatically getting excited. She’d always been obsessed with magic. Both the stage kind and the real kind. “You are so cool! I’ve always wanted to be magical!”

“It is. I have seen some of the properties some of the other people are living in here and I can’t imagine that I’d feel all that comfortable.” Though she obviously couldn’t speak for what other peoples homes were like. “I think you are but I am curious about what this adventure entails.”

“I understand that. I’m glad with what I’ve got so I guess if everyone’s happy with their houses that’s all that matters,” Doreen replied. “Well I want to get a pet. I miss my pet back home and your horse got me envious so now I wanna get a little pet of my own. Thoughts?”
