a thoughtful pause permeated the silence of the room leaving only the rhythmic ticking of a clock and faint pulse of kat’s heartbeat. if she were being honest she felt inadequate to give cassie advice, her own romantic pursuits generally weren’t well sought. there had been seth owens in the ninth grade who had sparkly eyes and joined debate club with her but the attraction had quickly fizzled after learning he self-identified as a conservative republican. after that romance had just been a fact of life, something to be expected of a young, successful woman. “i think in your heart you already know what you want to do.” she said sitting adjacent. “in my experience when people ask for advice they’ve already made up their minds they’re just scared to go through with it.” she grinned wryly. “when i had a brief tryst with soccer in high school my coach always said you miss one-hundred percent of the shots you don’t take.”

kat had a to-do list, a physical one, however outdated it might be it was her magnum opus. a moleskine journal she’d hand painted that contained what she would summarize as her entire life. currently in rested in a constant state of peril as she dodged drunkards and wayward drinks. she clutched the book close to her chest akin to a mother and her child. “toph!” she said dodging a flagrant arm. “how’s your night going?” // @tophespinoza
